  1. Look at the version # when VP starts, or at the left-bottom of the screen. What is that #? When loading a project be sure to let the green caching line, above the timeline thumbnails, complete before playing. How long is the project and what is the resolution of the bulk of the source files? If you share your work others can test it. Takes little time and can be private. Just follow these steps. Don't submit the export or only the VPJ file. Upload the project folder... 1. With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. 2. Locate the saved, numbered folder and upload it to a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* 3. Get a shared, public link. If using Google Drive click SHARE. Click the blue "Change to anyone with the link." Then click on COPY LINK. 4. Paste that link here, or click the folder, above top-right in this forum, and message it to me. This is private and won't be shared. * Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
  2. No crashes experienced here with v8.63; it's been stable. The link above should install only that version. Ignore any virus prompts. The effect also exports correctly in v8.77 if the mp4 composite, green-screened, is substituted in the Main Shoot sequence as outlined earlier.
  3. Was finally able to replicate what you report, in v8.7x versions. Apparent bug, that has been reported. Try this release.
  4. Use the CENSOR effect. If there is movement, animate the effect... http://help.nchsoftware.com/help/en/videopad/win/effects_animating.html
  5. Not certain what you are asking. Please be a little more specific. http://help.nchsoftware.com/help/en/videopad/win/editing_trimmingsplitting.html
  6. In the Main Shoot sequence, double-clicking the grey portal clip confirms that the Grey Portal sequence clips are transparent. No effects have been applied. Not seeing the black screen in your example, linked above. In the export dialog, click the Default Quality/Filesize link. In the Lossless Export field, instead of Auto choose Re-encode. Try adding green screen to the Main Shoot grey portal clip. Or to the mp4 export. Key on black with the threshold at 1 or so. In the Based On field click AUTO and choose Color + Brightness. The result duplicated the earlier output but that may be because the effect was already transparent without chromakey... test.mp4
  7. Video editing is resource intensive. That's not to say that simple VP projects won't succeed on your PC. But, yes, this can be slow and error prone. Close all other programs and apps when editing. Be sure that your video driver and Direct-X are up-to-date... https://www.nch.com.au/kb/10265.html Plan minimal effects, transitions, sequences and tracks, and load only those files/clips that are to be used in the project. Convert source files to lower resolution. https://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/index.html Export at a lower resolution. Check out this (and similar) articles found via search... https://www.desktop-documentaries.com/computer-for-video-editing.html
  8. The VPJ file tells the program what to do. It isn't a media or playable file. Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. Then you can restore a project to the state it was in when saved. Just double-click the VPJ file stored on the PC. It's usually in the same folder as the project source files. If the VTS files load and audio/video are synchronized, just work with them. If not, you may have better success by first converting their format to mp4, using one of a number of utilities. One of them is NCH Prism.
  9. Can't replicate your description, using mp4 1080 export. Look here. Explain what you mean by "In the FX box for the sequence the background is transparent?" Perhaps the PC isn't keeping up. Clear VP Cache Files upon starting the program, then load your project and try export once again. If no go, try an AVI format export. Or export the Grey Portal sequence as an mp4 and in the Main Shoot sequence substitute this composite clip. Upgrade video driver and Direct-X if necessary... https://www.nch.com.au/kb/10265.html You might also get a smoother 'landing' by hiding the small Flying Clip track on the Main Shoot sequence and slightly extending the From Portal to Ground clip.
  10. No easy answers. If the box is handling the jobs you need, then a upgraded card might improve it. If it's more than four years or so old, then a higher-end PC could be worth the outlay. Depends upon your useage.
  11. Your upgrades won't hurt and 8GB should be adequate. If things don't shape up, test VP on another machine if possible. Video editing is resource intensive, especially for complex projects for which gaming-class hardware is recommended.
  12. Thanks for sharing your project. Spotted no pixel or block problems either in preview or export here. Since this hints at a local PC issue, consider this... https://www.nch.com.au/kb/10265.html
  13. If you run into issues with the old VTS files, drop back here with specifics.
  14. A sequence contains all the content that's on the timeline - video and audio with their transitions, effects, etc. Usually there's only one sequence. The length of a projects depend upon the amount of content. Still image durations can be adjusted simply by dragging their handles (on the left and right borders). Audio/video clip length is what it is, but speed can be adjusted. Right-click on one to see that option. Place audio/video clips on the timeline in the desired order. Click ADD CLIPS and locate your music file. To see it in the bin (top-left of the VP window) clip the bin Audio Files tab. From there the clip can be dragged to the timeline beneath exiting audio tracks. Or move the red cursor in the timeline to where you want the clip to begin. Right-click the bin clip and OVERLAY ON SEQUENCE AT CURSOR. Overall music volume can be adjusted with the slider to the left of the track. Recording narration automatically adds clips to the timeline in the same way. They are also saved under the Audio Files tab in the bin. If VP doesn't auto-place them on a track, do it manually, as above. The clips can be dragged right or left on the timelime, for accurate placement. 15. In VP there are these text choices... If inserting text from a clip made elsewhere, the ZOOM, SCALE, MOTION and POSITION effects can be used to animate any movement. http://help.nchsoftware.com/help/en/videopad/win/effects_animating.html
  16. Don't have VLC here but it plays fine in MPC-BE. So no new insights.
  17. 1. Various audio effects can be utilized. Experiment with COMPRESSION, NORMALIZE, and AMPLIFY. 2, Use ZOOM or SCALE to enlarge the image slightly, to rid video of bottom-edge switching pulses, at the slight expense of image content. 3. Yes, certain choices can degrade quality. Choose a resolution equal to or less than that of the source material. Play with various quality options.... Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. Then you can restore a project to the state it was in when saved. Just double-click the VPJ file (which isn't playable). If you make an error while editing, click <ctrl-Z> to backtrack, step-by-step. (Same as EDIT | UNDO) Effects can be deleted by clicking the X at the right of a specific effect's menu bar.

    Enhancing video

Experiment with some of the EFFECTS tools... Best results might be obtained by exporting at a resolution equal to, or less than, the source file resolution.
  19. In the Main Shoot sequence, open EFFECTS for the Portal to ground clip and click the icon for Save as effect chain template, as described above. This saves all the effects that were applied to that clip. The new icon will appear at the bottom of the effects window, with the name that you gave it. Next, right-click and SAVE the still jpg in the prior post. The image default save duration is three-seconds. Image handles can be dragged to any length - no need to replicate. In the Main Shoot sequence, overlay the still at the same starting point as the original clip (that referenced the Portal to ground sequence) and drag its right handle to the same end point.. Open EFFECTS for this new image, scroll down and apply the effect chain that you saved. Lastly, in the area to the left of the original Portal to ground track, right-click and DELETE TRACK.
  20. Sourceforge is up here. Submit your video to the forum and someone with VLC will test it.
  21. If possible, grab a screen shot of what you see and upload it to a free server. Get a shared link and post that here, so folks can see what you see. No 'box' appeared when applying the OLD FILM effect here. What version of Videopad is being used?
  22. What format are the movies? Assuming that "completed" means they have been exported, use ADD CLIPS (not Open) to import them as you would any other clips and drop them onto the timeline.
  23. ? Try reinstalling VLC. And consider test driving this free player.
  24. Exporting segments, then importing and merging them for final export can lesson the load - especially if a project is lengthy and has many effects. Orchestrate as few tracks and sequences as possible...and perhaps budget for another 4GB of RAM.😉
  25. It appears that you have programmed the project in an efficient way. Loaded it into VP 8.72 on a Windows 10 8GB I3 laptop - a processor that wouldn't be recommended for video editing - and was pleasantly surprised. Won't win any speed contests, yet start through export took less than 20 minutes. There were no glitches at the 1080 AVI default settings. This hints that there may be hardware issues?
