  1. Look in the folder containing the source files and VPJ control files. VP often creates back ups, and one of those may save you. Most of your queries stem from inexperience with the program which, while not perfect, works well for the most part. And is a great value for those who use it for free. Improvements are continuous. Competitors are numerous. It's your choice.
  2. Unlinked audio and video clips can be placed anywhere on the timeline with respect to one another, creating splits. Timeline clips can be copied and pasted as well. To avoid affecting tracks other than the one being edited, LOCK the other tracks. Right-click at the left of a track to see that option.
  3. No mistake should take hours to fix. Immediately press <ctrl-Z> (EDIT | UNDO) to backtrack, step-by-step. Of course. Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. Then you can restore a project to the state it was in when saved. Just double-click the VPJ file (which isn't playable). If a clip is added to the head of a series of clips (with no gaps) those clips will be pushed to the right. No gaps will be created. You may have inadvertently created those gaps. In this demo the 'smile' was added to the head of three stills. Though it may appear that there are gaps, that's just the nature of the thumbnail display. Switch to Storyboard mode, where true gaps are easily seen. Record_2020_09_27_08_22_37_820.mp4
  4. In the latest VP, narration numbers do increment, beginning with .0001 after the My Audio name. Change that name at the right-bottom of the window. Pan and Zoom has a preview box that displays what the effect will look like. But a grid might be a welcome plus. Make suggestions here... https://www.nch.com.au/suggestions/index.html?software
  5. Utilization of GPU is being improved. It's wise to run the latest version. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. Some basics: Load only the files that will be used in the project. Allow the timeline to fully cache (green line above the thumbnails) prior to editing. Under OPTIONS | DISK tab, Clear Unused Cache Files, to eliminate possible corruption. Do that before beginning a new project. Under OPTIONS | EDITING, toggle Use Hardware Acceleration to see if that makes a difference. Verify that your video driver and Direct-X are current. https://www.nch.com.au/kb/10265.html Look into proxy editing, where small-resolution files are edited, then the originals substituted for export. Breaking a project into more manageable segments, exporting each, then merging them for the final export may help. If export isn't accurate, use the MPEG4 compressor in lieu of H264. Or export at lower-res. Of course. Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. Then you can restore a project to the state it was in when saved. Just double-click the VPJ file (which isn't playable). If you like, someone will analyse your project. Uploading and sharing is not difficult, takes little time and can be private. Just follow these steps... 1. With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. 2. Locate the saved, numbered folder and upload it to a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* (Don't upload the export file or only the VPJ.) 3. Get a shared, public link. If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. Click the blue "Change to anyone with the link..." Then click COPY LINK | DONE. 4. Paste that link here, or click the folder, above top-right in this forum, and message it to me. This is private and won't be shared. * Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
  6. CPU usage briefly pops up to 4% under that scenario, consistent with what was seen with the earlier described multi-track/effect project. This hints at something amiss with the install or PC functioning. In considering upgrades, some general recommendations.
  7. Nothing remotely like that here. Loaded an effect/track intensive project. Added a blank clip. CPU at about 2%. Then changed duration of the clip. Caching completed in less than 5". CPU peaked at around 40% during that period, then within another 10" or so settled back down to near zero. This appears to be a local issue. Use the latest VP version. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info.
  8. A matter of settings. Under the preview window, use MATCH MONITOR, to give a representation of how the project will look on your monitor. On the cut off scenes, be sure to type the text within the preview image boundaries. For images/videos that aren't scaling correctly, try applying the Letterbox to Aspect Ratio effect to them. In export, you should be able to select the A/R choice. Upload and share your video and someone will make specific suggestions. This isn't difficult, takes little time and can be private. 9. Perhaps you need a peppier video card. Developers are working on making GPU take more of the load.
  10. When a blank clip duration in an exiting project is changed here CPU tics up for the duration of caching, then drops back to a very low value. Takes seconds and is normal. Record_2020_09_26_11_44_22_284.mp4
  11. Experiment with the software to learn its many features. SCALE in the Split-Screen effect box will allow the background to show through. BG on track one, 3x3 grid with image C, F and I each scaled to .90...
  12. Resave before closing VP. Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. Then you can restore a project to the state it was in when saved. Just double-click the VPJ file (which isn't playable).
  13. Images aren't cached. Not seeing anything near that behavior here... CPU.mp4
  14. https://www.nchsoftware.com/photoeditor/index.html https://www.nchsoftware.com/drawpad/index.html Lots-o-options. Use the right tool for the job.
  15. For a very quick, smple portrait border in Videopad... Add the Aspect Ratio CROP TO LETTERBOX effect to the image, then add the border. Or Crop a colored blank background image to the desired overlay portrait image size... Topic deletion can be done by request here.
  16. Not seeing what you seem to be describing. Thee is a slight jerkiness when positioning the elements. Be sure that your video drivers and Direct-X are up to date... https://www.nch.com.au/kb/10265.html Under OPTIONS | EDITING tab toggle "use hardware acceleration" and see if that makes a difference. Sliders work well, but it's often easier to move and size images with their handles, in the preview window.
  17. Please share that clip, if you have the time. Upload to a free server, make it public (get a shareable link) and post that here.
  18. That's a YouTube issue, and you may be out of luck. Here's what they say... Replace a video You can’t replace a video because any new video you upload to YouTube will get a new URL. Instead, you can make changes to an existing video: Trim your video: On a computer, you can cut out the beginning, middle, or end of your video. Add cards to your video: You can use cards to add new elements to your video. Cards can show other video titles, specific websites, etc. Change your video's title and description: You can organize and make changes to your video's title, category, description, and privacy settings.

What version of VP is being used? That's shown at start up and at the bottom-left of the VP screen. Here is the latest. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. If you take a few minutes to share your project, someone will check it out. Issues are usually resolved quickly. This can be private, and it's not difficult. Just follow these steps... 1. With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. 2. Locate the saved, numbered folder and upload it to a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* (Don't upload the export file or only the VPJ.) 3. 20. Thanks for that. Does appear to be proprietary - not recognized by VP or a viewer here. Perhaps there is a way to convert it??
  21. Interesting thought. Have you filed a YouTube claim, referring to the NCH agreement page linked above? Uploaded your video there and it's fine. If more facts come to light they will be posted here.
  22. What effects, specifically? Here's an NCH product that integrates with VP... https://www.nchsoftware.com/animation/index.html

  24. Shooting with the H264 compressor instead of H265, if possible, should result in better VP responsiveness and caching speed. At export you may still need to drop down to 2K to get accurate results on lengthy projects. That said, after converting one of your files to H264, placing it twice on the timeline and adding slight zoom and auto level effects, the 18-minute 4K export did succeed using AVI format and MPEG4 compressor at 15fps. No compelling reason to use high frame rates IMO. Lapsed time was loosely comparable to that obtained in a 64-bit editor. At 60fps export took several hours. (At 60fps mp4/MPEG4 worked with a single 8' file.)
