  1. Check out... https://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/36440-paid-version-of-videopad-will-not-import-any-kind-of-video/?tab=comments#comment-96772
  2. Not seeing that here, as tested on your graphic with versions 10.17 and beta 10.18. Install the current release. What version is being used there? For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. Confirm that the video driver and Direct-X are up to date... https://www.nch.com.au/kb/10265.html
  3. Give it a day or two, then download from MS again and report back whether your issues are fixed.
  4. Yes, that was an install-on-demand codec. No worries. If the installer landed in the DOWNLOADS folder simply delete it there. Thanks for confirming the Microsoft purchase. The offering there should be fixed shortly, and then you can re-download.
  5. This is the most elementary of procedures and succeeds here in every case. Very strange. Try this version. Confirm that your video driver and Direct-X are up to date. https://www.nch.com.au/kb/10265.html If you simply cannot make it work, list the IN/OUT precise cut points and someone will delete the section and make the result available to you.
  6. If the paid version came from Microsoft, wait a few days and then re-download there. It should be fixed and licensed. If not, come back here. The unlicensed 'free' version doesn't expire but has effect and export limitations.
  7. https://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/36439-windows-store-build-error-on-loading-files/?tab=comments#comment-96733 Assuming yours is the same issue as in the above thread, In the interim, while awaiting the MS update, try this version.
  8. This hints that you purchased from the Microsoft store. See this thread... https://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/36439-windows-store-build-error-on-loading-files/?tab=comments#comment-96733 Use this free tool to do a clean uninstall. Let it clean the registry entries as well. Then install this Videopad version.. The Microsoft download should be fixed in a day or so, so you can download and install your paid version. As for cropping, that's likely a setting. If it persists after things settle down, open a new thread and describe exactly what you see and where - perhaps upon export?
  9. Autosave is usually available after a crash. And after any edit changes have been made, VP should prompt to save when it's closed. Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. Never move or delete source files until the project is complete. Look for the autosaved file in C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\NCH Software\VideoPad. Search the PC for other VPJ files. To help sleuth out what's going on with your VPJ, let someone here take a look at the project. Go to the (hopefully single) folder that contains all the source files and the VPJ, zip its contents and upload to a free server. Get a shareable (public) link, copy the link and post it here or to me in a Private Message (click the envelope at the top-right of this forum). If using Google Drive, be sure to make it "anyone with link can view" and not "restricted."
  10. Someone is always here for you. Agree that it can be annoying to find that familiar ways of doing things have changed. There have been many changes since the 4.x series. Be aware too that features (like the snap behavior) may act slightly differently with each, repeated install. No need to re-download. And no mandate to update if what you have is working well. There's a six-month upgrade grace period.
  11. That's an odd one. But as you see in similar threads here, version from Microsoft have issues that should soon be remedied. In the interim try this version. And see this thread... https://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/36440-paid-version-of-videopad-will-not-import-any-kind-of-video/?tab=comments#comment-96772
  12. You can certainly file a report... https://tinyurl.com/yc26uooz Illustrate, with link to video if possible, how it worked in the past and how it's broken now. And point out the documentation that relates. This, from the HELP files... In Timeline mode, clips can be dragged left and right and move them earlier or later in the timeline, or up and down to move them to different tracks. When either end of the clip being dragged is near either end of another clip, or the start or end of the sequence, it will "snap" to that position. Hold down the Shift key while dragging to temporarily disable this behavior. When moving a clip so that its left edge is inside of another clip, that other clip will be split and the clip will be inserted at that point. Hold down the Alt key when dropping the clips to temporarily disable this behavior. But documentation for snapping isn't always correct. There has been much discussion on how to handle it. Behavior can vary, even for the same release. With the timeline expanded using the slider at the bottom-right, clips can be sized and dragged with precision without <shift> or <alt>, except for using those keys (if necessary in a particular VP build) to create gaps so a clip can be shifted left/right without affecting adjacent clips. To share images, upload them to a free server, such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, get a shared (public) link, copy the link and paste it here. The image won't display in your post but the clickable link will bring up the page where it's stored. To share a project see the instructions in the earlier reply.
  13. Is your version licensed? Where did you purchase it? If from Microsoft, see the posts above. Also try the version linked above ... and report back. 10.17 text background opacity is working well here.
  14. Thought that might be an MS buy. A new release should be on their server within a day or so. In the interim check out the version linked above. Once you download and install the new release it should be licensed. If that's not the case, please report that here. Thanks.
  15. Please stick with this single thread so it's easier to track your issue. What's the version #? Look at the left-bottom corner of the VP window. Was this a Microsoft purchase? For now, use this version though it may be unlicensed. In a day or two try your MS download again, when a revised release should be available. Hopefully, it will be licensed, because you paid for it. If this is a licensed copy purchased from NCH, upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info.
  16. Using <shift> as you apparently are can cause unpredictable results - missing split lines, double Xs, odd lengths. In most cases there is no need to use the shift key when dragging handles to change a clip's duration. That said, to leave a gap when dragging a clip's right handle to the left, use <shift>. To leave a gap when dragging the left handle to the right, use <alt>.
  17. Well, from what is seen here, it's not the software. Works fine in several versions and no other reports on this. Did you install the latest version? Nat's post, above, details one way to make a deletion. You can also do it this way... Move the red scrubber to where the deletion is to begin. Click the SPLIT button. The split lines will appear, along with that X. Move the line to where the deletion is to end. Click SPLIT. Again, split lines will appear, and the X. Click the mouse inside the to-be-deleted areas and press the DEL key. If this leaves a gap, right-click in the gap and CLOSE GAP. Mention the precise start and end points of your deleted section and someone will try it.
  18. The curved X is used for making transitions, not for splitting. It appears when a split is made, if the timeline isn't too compressed. Even when the timeline is fully compressed, your timeline displays the X at all split points, some of which were within the 8 to 13 minute area. Did you position the scrubber and use the SPLIT button? If that doesn't work, there is something decidedly amiss. Someone here will be glad to made those edits for you if you specify the precise IN/OUT points. But this certainly should not be necessary. No payment or ticket is necessary.
  19. Thanks for sharing. Using the current release, cannot spot a problem - even when the timeline is at maximum compression (slider at the extreme left). Have you tried positioning the scrubber (red cursor) and using the SPLIT button, under the preview window?
  20. You can include a link to an image which, when clicked, will display it. Upload the file/s to a free server, such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, get a shared (public) link, copy the link and paste it here or to me in a Private Message via the mail envelope in the top-right corner of this forum. Using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view." Did you test he current release, linked above? It's possible to revert as well Just retain your registration. The installer was likely saved to "C:\Program Files (x86)\NCH Software\VideoPad" (or similar, without the X86). Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. Share your project. List specifics on your 'resizing.' Someone will do the same - try to see what you see. The process is easy, quick and can be done privately. Just follow these steps... Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file. Get link --- Get a public link. If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view" Share --- Click COPY LINK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me. It won't be shared. * Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
  21. The curved X is the Transition icon that is at the top of each split. If the timeline is too compressed it (and the effects FX icon) won't be seen. Expand the timeline with the slider at the left-bottom of the window. Drag it to the right.
  22. Using 10.12 (64) unable to replicate that behavior. Try expanding the timeline (slider at the bottom-right), to see if the bracket becomes available... Roll the mouse pointer over the bulky handles, not just the lines. Test the current release. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info.
  23. What "X" are you referring to? Expand the timeline with the slider at the bottom-right and see if that helps. Then use the horizontal bar at the bottom to scroll the entire timeline. In Storyboard mode each clip on track 1 will be shown. Share your project. Someone will take a look and come up with a fix.
  24. A VP install has a 50/50 chance of either the Wizard or Template icon landing on the toolbar and a random chance of getting the old or new template layout. If the Templates icon has a chevron to the right of the icon, then that's the old Templates version, with options to use placeholders to merge projects. (This didn't work well, IMO.) If it's the Template or Wizard icon - no chevron - then that's the new version, which at this juncture seems to no longer have options for creating templates or using the placeholder/merge feature. As of this date that's how it looks to me. It's a work in progress, so expect improvements. A template is just a project - designated by a VPJ file. In lieu of using the Templates routine, a project can be created - perhaps in a separate sequence - and then exported using Save Project As. That choice is available by clicking the chevron to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar or via the MENU | FILE drop-down. Give it a unique name.
  25. It's my understanding that a bug was discovered in the Microsoft build. That build should be replaced shortly. In the interim, please use the unlicensed version, and try another d/l and install tomorrow. Report back if that succeeds in providing a licensed version as well as clearing up the loading issue.
