New features and refinements are added to Videopad several times monthly. Versions don't expire and updates after purchase are free for six months. Yet there's no need to update if the program is doing the job. Newer versions can always be test driven to check out new features, and quirks. Unlicensed Videopad releases function indefinitely in most cases, but features are limited. There are no watermarks in the unlicensed versions. Always retain purchase registration info for reinstall when desired. Did the linked release solve your audio issue?

Glad it worked out. Keep in mind... Never move or delete source files until certain editing is forever done. Back up frequently, using Save AS, so older saves are not overwritten. That way you will have a number of versions of the project, each represented by a VPJ file. If using a VP release that is working well for you, there's no need to upgrade. Newer releases can always be tested, unlicensed, to check out their features and quirks. If there's something you like, make the switch but retain any purchase registration info. There's a six-month window for free updates. After that, updates cost money but a licensed version will continue to work indefinitely. Even a 'free' or 'trial' version will still function in most cases, with limitations.

Here, using the latest release, dragging the right handle of a clip to the left, shortening it, ripples those to the right but does not change their length. Dragging the left handle to the right, shortening it, leaves a gap which can be closed with a right-click | CLOSE GAP. This action may require holding down the <alt> key, to keep the clip edge from snapping back. Again, no change in adjacent clip length. When the right handle of a clip is dragged right, lengthening it, the clip to the right is moved without changing its length. When the left handle is dragged left, the clip is lengthened but the prior clip length is unaffected. If an entire clip is dragged (not by the handles) then it's another story; adjacent clips may split. Different VP versions don't necessarily act precisely the same. And there are many scenarios, depending upon project layout, so results can be unpredictable. If you make a mistake immediate press <ctrl-Z> (EDIT | UNDO) to backtrack, step-by-step. Exported (final) work is often in mp4 format - the VP default. But you could have chosen others, such as AVI, WMV, or MOV. VPJ files control the program, telling it where to locate source files and how to apply effects, transitions, etc. Searching the PC for those file extensions should reveal what's available. Or perhaps files have been saved to a remote 'cloud' server. Earlier suggestions outline how missing files might be resolved in VP. The simplest Windows restore method is reverting to a restore point, but changes made between when the point was created and today will likely be lost. That's a topic for an MS forum. Good luck!

Update to the current version. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. If this doesn't solve the issue, drop by again.

If you license the 'Pro' version one would think that existing videos made with an unlicensed release then could be monetized without having to upload them again. But this is conjecture. The files you need have exactly the same name and extension as shown in the NAME field of the resolved files box. See the image above. Those are the files that you need.

It's common for unintended changes to occur in Windows. When the files are located, jot down their folder path and then use the RESOLVE buttons in Videopad to find each file. After all are located, don't forget to Save AS. That will be your new VPJ file and since VP now knows where to find the files there should be no more missing file issues.

When clicking on a RESOLVE button, this is similar to what pops up, dependent upon view settings. It's the file manager. You must use the left column lo locate the missing file folder. Then in the right column open either the subfolder where the file is located or, if the file is already listed at the right, double-click it. If you didn't delete the source file, it must be somewhere on the PC. It's up to you to find it. Check the Recycle bin where files can be right-clicked and restored. Note in the right-bottom corner of the above it says "Common Media Files." That normally covers the file types in a typical project. However, clicking the chevron that's at the right of those words will drop down a menu where you can choose to show ALL files, no matter what their type. It may help to do a Windows search (top-right of the image above) of the C:\ drive for the exact file name/s that are missing. That should reveal where they are.

Normally, on the context menu that pops up when right-clicking on a clip, there's both a DELETE and a DELETE (ripple) choice. Ripple works only when applicable, but not on existing gaps. If a clip is removed using DELETE (ripple), and a gap is left, right-click in the gap and CLOSE GAP. This works for any gap. If the video is on track 1 gaps can best be seen in Storyboard mode. ripple.mp4

It isn't necessary to quote the prior post, unless there's a specific reference to which you are replying. This is what you see... The FILE line is where VP expects to find the file. The NAME line is the specific file's name. When Resolve is clicked and the file manager appears, you need to manually locate the folder where the missing file is stored, then double-click that file. The yellow File line will turn green. Then resolve each and every missing file in the same manner. Finally, Save AS once again, to update. Or use one of the alternative methods mentioned above, to copy the files to the correct folder ... or to copy the VPJ to the folder containing ALL source files.

Resolving is not automatic. When the resolve button is clicked it brings up the file manager. You must manually locate each file for each RESOLVE notice, and double-click each. The resolve entry will then turn green, as VP now knows where the file is.

Using Save AS routinely ensures that nothing will be lost ... IF source files have not been deleted or moved. If so, then VP will prompt to RESOLVE them. Note the name of a missing file. Click on its RESOLVE button. File manager will appear. Locate the missing file and double-click it. Once all missing files have been resolved, one-by-one, FILE | SAVE AS once again, to update the VPJ file. The chevron to the right of the Home menu | SAVE PROJECT button will present that choice. Click it. An alternative is to locate the missing files prior to opening Videopad and move them back to where VP expects them to be. That path is shown in the resolve entry. Yet another possibility is to move the VPJ file into the same folder as ALL source files. Bottom line: do not move or delete source files until certain that the project will never again be loaded, and use Save AS regularly.

My guess is that colors denote content type: dark green = voice, light green = voice and music, blue = music. Don't quote me.^_^ This feature does not appear in all releases or, perhaps, variants of a specific release.

Final analysis GP031029.mp4, which was 12:00 long wasn't used in the project and was deleted to reduce unnecessary file loading. The Stabilized Fragment.AVI file is bad and was hanging VP - audio is many hours long yet the video is only about 4:36. It was replaced with a re-encoded version. Can't say what went wrong with the original deshaking of that file because... The Stabilized Test Video 2.mp4 file is good. Both A and V are the same length. Stabilizing creates an AVI but this was an mp4. How was it done? The Test Video Singling.mp4 was A/V UNlinked and being used only for audio but video was still a part of the load. Under the BIN Sequences tab Sequence 1 was right-clicked to create a new WAV using Save Sequence to a New Audio File. Singling.mp4 was deleted, which cleared the audio track, and the WAV file was added in its place. Now the project contains two video files, one audio file and the VPJ control file. Export at 1080 is quick and the program no longer hangs. In the future, suggest that you pare down the original file, retaining only the segments to be used. Then stabilize just those segments independently and load them into the final build. Experiment with deshaker settings. NTSC has worked well here, even when the final export is to be PAL. Stabilizing a twenty-minute mp4 went flawlessly, so it appears that the GoPro files don't play nicely with the deshaker at 1080. No firm conclusions.

For recent VP releases, configure the effect on a single clip. Then select all clips to which it's to be applied. Click the FX button on the initial clip, then click the Replace Effect Chain icon on the effects window toolbar. The effect is applied to all selected clips. You can also save a custom effect as a template. Once the effect has been configured click the folder icon on the toolbar. Give the effect a name. That custom effect will appear as just another icon, at the bottom of the effects window.
