  1. If you haven't yet tried the two suggested methods outlined earlier perhaps you should. Again, 2K export tends to work well and look great. File a suggestion or bug. Click the chevron at the top-right of the VP window for the drop-down menu. The devs do read the comments. If ever you get sufficient server space to upload your portable project folder or a portion thereof we'll be interested in testing. Best of luck!
  2. If you exported the project as an Mp4, it should be a playable file in any media viewer, such as Windows Media Player. If the export is loaded back into Videopad it will be a single clip. None of the individual clips, effects, transitions will be there. They have been composited into a file. To load the actual project, double-click the VPJ file that is created when the project is saved. It's best to regularly Save AS, so as to not overwrite earlier saves. To see that choice click the chevron to the right of the SAVE button on the toolbar, or use the File menu that's accessed via the three-lined hamburger button at the top-left of the VP screen. The VPJ file is not playable - it's an instruction file that tells the program where to find the files and how to handle them. If you'd like someone to review your work please share it. NOT the mp4 export, but the project itself. Here's how. It's easy, quick and can be private. http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to share it.
  3. Install the latest and try again. There's no logical reason for those limitations. What is the resolution of most source clips? How long is the project. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. For both Ryan and Boon, if still no joy, share your project and someone will take a look. It's not difficult, takes but a few minutes and can be private. Just closely follow the steps listed here... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to share it.
  4. Looks like fun! Inspect your 4K export carefully for early termination or missing elements. Good luck.
  5. No, your link still responds with "Ooops, something went wrong." Without seeing the project, or the portion that has the overlay problem you describe, it's tough to say what is going on. Upload and share an example if possible. Higher tracks override lower tracks, as you know. If a 70% scaled clip is on a lower track and a 40% scaled clip is on the next higher track, the 40 will overlay the 70 - picture in picture - as in the example below where track 1 is a color background, 2 is wildlife and 3 is the pooch. The recommendations for 4K export mentioned earlier may succeed. They have here. But 2K output will give less grief and look sharp on YouTube and most any PC. Again, IMO, you may be bumping the current limits of VP memory with long, 4K material. AFAIK, there's no timeline, but a 64-bit version is on the burner.
  6. Dual preview allows monitoring of the clip and the sequence simultaneously. There are two ways to increase vertical size of the audio track - provided there aren't multiple tracks... Click the chevron at the far-left of the track. And click the AUDIO menu tab above the toolbar.
  7. With the audio waveform in the preview window, use <ctrl-spacebar>. That will toggle preview playback on/off and both the preview and sequence cursors will track. To increase track width move the slider at the bottom-right of the window. Click the double-headed arrow to fit the project into the window. Agree on the contrasting color and cursor placement. Click the chevron at the top-right of the VP window and make suggestions. No guarantees, but developers do read them. Under OPTIONS | GENERAL, Show dual preview might also prove useful.
  8. Saving the project updates the VPJ file, which tells the program where to find the source material and how to handle effects/transitions. As long as none of the source files are moved, restoring the saved VPJ will load exactly what was on the sequence when the file was saved, and editing can continue. An exported file will not display individual edits if loaded into VP. It's a composite. So, no, exporting isn't necessary until the project is completed. Look at the bottom-left of the VP window. What version # is listed?
  9. Just click the envelop at the right-top of this forum and type "borate" (no quotes) into the TO field. Be sure to save as a PORTABLE PROJECT and make the link public (share it).
  10. What version of VP is being used? Share that audio file as described above. Someone will check it out. Better yet, share the entire project. With it on the sequence, just follow the instructions at the link... Here's how... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to share it.
  11. Do not PANIC! What version of Videopad is being used? You say that the audio clip is Mp4. Normally that format contains video. Is there video with that clip? If this is an independent audio clip, did it move or form gaps when video clips were added? To avoid that, right-click at the left of the track and LOCK AUDIO. You will never lose anything if you make it a practice to Save Project File AS routinely. Give it a unique name or #, so as to not overwrite a prior save. If just SAVE PROJECT is used, it will overwrite. To see these save choices use either the FILE menu (top-left, under the 3-lined 'hamburger' button) or click the chevron to the right of the Save Project button on the home menu's toolbar. Share this Mp4 file, especially if it contains no video. Please upload it to a free server, make the link public (share it) and post the link here. It's easy and takes but a minute. Here's how... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained.
  12. Yup. Play the sequence. Press the K key wherever there is to be a start and end of a dip. This will split out a new audio clip, in essence. Then follow the above procedure. If you make a mistake in where you want a split press <ctrl-Z> to undo. Another approach to dip a single clip is to double-click its audio track. The waveform of the entire clip will appear in preview with that clip's audio highlighted.. Click at each end of the highlighted area to create keyframes. Then the line can be dragged downward at the desired dip points, which automatically sets other keyframes. The result is similar to the effect method described above. To delete a keyframe, hover over a dot, right-click and REMOVE THIS FADE POINT. In future VP versions the ducker should be up to snuff, which will do this automatically. It is being worked on. Details in the HELP file.
  13. Hints that the project should be broken up and exported as separate 7 minute trailers.
  14. The ducker in the current version of VP shows promise, but it's not ready for prime time. To apply this manually to all narrations... Click the chevron to the right of the SPLIT button and split out the audio tracks only at the beginning and end of each narration. Select (highlight) every one of those newly split out clips. Click the FX button on any one of the audio clips in the track that you want to dip, then click the large green + sign and choose the AMPLIFY effect. Plot keyframes so the graph looks similar to the pic below, with the lowered gain set to about 85% and 100% gain at the ends. The distance between keyframes (dots) determines how quickly the gain change is made. Shorter distance = faster. Longer distance = slower. See this FAQ for instructions on how to plot keyframes (animation). Click the fourth button from the left in the toolbar, where the pop up reads "Replace effects chain.." That will apply the dip to all selected audio clips. If that button is not clicked, then the effect will be applied only to the single clip.
  15. It's not entirely clear what you are attempting. Are you using the non-paid version, and now cannot export an Mp4? If so, try AVI. If that fails, reinstall the program from here. Better still, license Videopad. If instead you can't upload directly to YouTube, export in one of their approved formats and use their uploader to locate the file on your PC and post it..
  16. Your sound cache shows 12 Gigs? Here it's 92 MB, after fiddling with several projects. How long is your project?
  17. GAPS in the sequence can be easily spotted in Storyboard mode. What version of Videopad is being used? How long is the project? Please share your project. Fixes usually come quickly. This isn't difficult, takes only minutes and can be private. Then it can be export tested by others. 18. The sound cache will always go to C:\. That cache should not tax your drive/PC. A beta release will be out shortly; worth testing. https://www.nchsoftware.com/beta/
  19. As long as the PC or Mac has the needed codecs for the file you exported there should be no problem. The Mp4 container, using the H264 codec (the default) usually works well. If the Mac balks, try MOV for your export.
  20. Share the project and someone will check it out. It's easy, takes little time and can be private. OR simply upload the text clips that you want for the template, complete with their working effects, fonts and audio for testing here.. Not seeing a problem with templates... Created a template consisting of a title object and a musical note, and saved it. Then cleared the sequence. A placeholder wasn't used in this test. Imported a video clip and dropped it into the sequence. Clicked the chevron to the right of the TEMPLATES icon and chose Apply Template to Open Project. This created a new sequence 2 that displayed the template. Selected both audio and video in that sequence and pressed <ctrl-C> to copy the template. (Same as EDIT | COPY) Clicked the Sequence 1 tab and pressed <ctrl-V> to paste the template. It overlays. Then it could be positioned where desired. Positioning did not affect the video. Here's how to share your clips or project... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). THE best way to diagnose issues if to let other run the project just as you do. It's easy to share, takes but a few minutes, and can be private. Let's take a look... 22. To be frank, strictly IMO, unless you settle for 2K export you're in for a losing battle. But if you're hell-bent on 4K, try this. No guarantee. Whatever your film's length the same thinking applies, During the edit, do not include global effects such as a watermark that runs throughout. SAVE the completed edit First try an export by deleting all unused sequences, clearing cache, then creating a blank Sequence 2 by clicking the + sign to the right of Sequence 1. Click the Sequences tab above the bin and drop Sequence One into the blank Sequence 2. Add global effects, then export. Worth a quick test. This is now a single, composited clip. Effects/transitions, overlays, audio tracks won't show up on the sequence but they're there. If this fails, split the project. Using a 5-minute effort as an example... Start by removing all sequences except the one used for the final project, and clear unused cache files. 1. Split out the first minute of the project (plus a few seconds overlap) and delete the rest. 2. Click the + sign to the right of the Sequence 1 tab to create a new blank sequence. 3. Drag Sequence 1 into Sequence 2. 4. Export Sequence 2. Repeatedly press <ctrl-Z> (EDIT | UNDO) until only Sequence 1 is again shown IN FULL on the timeline. If you go back too far, click <ctrl-Y> (EDIT | REDO) Split out the second minute plus a few seconds overlap at each end, and delete all other content. Repeat the steps above for each remaining segment. When all have been exported, restart VP, Clear the Unused Cache Files and import all parts in order. Clean up the edit points, eliminating overlaps. Add global effects, such as a watermark. Export at 4K. You can try lossless but it likely won't work if a global overlay has been added. Considering that all the fancy stuff is now composited and won't require processing, this may succeed. It has here.
  23. The devs are always tweaking performance. Nothing official, but a large 4K project may be butting up against VP memory limitations - it's a 32-bit app (for now). There are convolutions that have succeeded here, but they aren't worth the hassle IMO. 2K generally does well and looks sharp. Can't say whether the differing frame rates have an impact. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will chime in... Your link responds "oops, something went wrong." Don't forget to share it publicly.
  24. Using a beta version 8.23, rag 5 loaded and played normally. Nary a glitch. What version is installed there? Consider installing the latest release. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info.
