  1. That's the picture. It's easiest when the proxies, in a separate folder, are the same format and name as the originals. Then there's the Recycle Bin method. Closely follow the steps in the FAQ. You might also click on OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files. And close all other programs while editing.
  2. What version of Videopad is being used? Blur works fine here... The Censor Effect blur is also doing the job.
  3. One way to slice and dice is to proceed until things get sluggish, then export, SAVE PROJECT AS, and give it a unique # or name, so as to not overwrite earlier saves. Now delete all but the very end of what's been edited thus far, and continue with the next section in the same way. When all parts have been exported, import them, clean up the overlapped edits and export the final. As the exported sections are now single clips where all effects have been composited, this should go quickly. One easy way to export parts of a long project is to swipe the sequence - hold the left mouse button and drag the cursor. Then right-click, and a menu will appear. . Next project, read up on Proxy Editing. It takes a little time to prep, but the workflow thereafter can be more efficient. A 2GB upload should be no problem on Google Drive or MS OneDrive. Share if possible and layout tips may be offered that could speed future efforts.
  4. VP does share with the GPU, and improvements are always being made. Toggle the "accelerated hardware" box in OPTIONS | EDITING tab to see if that makes a difference. With high-res, lengthy projects Proxy editing can be useful, as can breaking them into segments for later final assembly. If you share your project we'll take a look, compare performance and offer suggestions. The process isn't difficult, takes little time and can be private. Don't upload the export, just the PORTABLE PROJECT folder, as instructed here... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to get a shareable, public link - not one that is restricted.
  5. Any error messages? This is very odd. Under OPTIONS | DISK tab Clear Unused Cache Files. Be sure that the video drivers and Direct-X are up to date. AMD / ATI users: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Intel users: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx nVidia users: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us Update DirectX: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113 You might also install this version of Videopad. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. If this persists, share your PORTABLE project, per the instructions at this link. Report back. http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to get a shareable, public link - not one that is restricted.
  6. Precisely where did you change the "My Audio" path? File sizes can be influenced by many things: export resolution, format and compressor, number and type of effects, etc. Experiment with export settings, such as AVI with the MPEG compressor or WMV.
  7. Usually there's no speed change needed for narration. Make a still image long enough to cover what you want to say. Drag a clip's borders to change the image duration. Or double-click the clip on the timeline and type in a new time in the box that's under the preview window thumbnails.. . The default still image length can be set in OPTIONS | MEDIA tab.
  8. To include a link to screenshot snap a screenshot and save it; upload it to a free server; get a shareable (public) non-restricted link and post that link here. Every VP release has an options button, but if your window is small you may have to click the two chevrons at the far-right of the toolbar to see it.... On a bigger screen it looks about like this, depending upon which tab is active in the menu bar. In this case it's the HOME tab. As noted earlier, you should be able to specify any folder. If VIDEOS is the default then that's where the files will land. In recent versions, there's also a link in the export config window to Set As Default Location, as shown in the last post. Be sure that you are clicking a record or add NARRATION choice, not on the other options.. .
  9. From the HOME menu tab click the OPTIONS button on the toolbar. Then click the Audio tab and you will see the screen above. Confirm that it's configured for either Default or Realtek speakers, not the digital output. In the Narration recording window you should see... Click the Windows Record Mixer item to bring up Windows settings... Under the Levels tab, confirm that the volume is 75-100% You should be able to export to any drive or folder. Click here...
  10. The common Realtek audio in Windows 10 here, and it works fine. Is the correct playback device configured in Videopad? Is the microphone configured correctly in Windows? Does Voice Recorder hear you?
  11. What version of Videopad? Please be a little more specific about "scrambled." Before loading your project, click the OPTIONS menu, then the DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files. If an audio component has been corrupted set things right by first closing VP, then deleting all files in these PC folders. "C:\Users\<your PC name>\AppData\Roaming\NCH Software\Components" "C:\Program Files (x86)\NCH Software\Components" or "C:\Program Files\NCH Software\Components" Reinstall Videopad. Or install this version. 8.45 If no joy, share the project and someone will be glad to take a look. This is easy, quick and can be private. Don't upload the export, just the PORTABLE project, per these instructions... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to get a shareable, public link - not one that is restricted.
  12. You will have to put that question to NCH marketing.^_^ The intent appears to be tracking what features are most popular. There may be more than two slightly different 'flavors' with each version. Makes some sense for seeing how folks embrace extras, like added effects or a menu change. But operational variance invites confusion. An opinion FWIW.
  13. You might begin a project, adding ST, until things start to bog down. Then export that section. Of course, at that point, all content is locked in and cannot be changed. It would be wise to slightly overlap each export, so they can be cleanly pieced together with nothing missing when they are loaded back into VP for the final assembly.

    CPU vs GPU

The developers are always working on improving GPU utilization. The only user control is under OPTIONS | EDITING - Use Hardware Accelerated Video Effects. Likely doesn't affect export. Exported a 2:30 project with eight video/audio tracks here at default mp4 720 resolution with the H264 compressor... Videopad CPU averaged 33%, GPU 28%. with acceleration ON or OFF. Export time was close to three minutes. Version 8.45. Video editing is resource intensive and a reasonably high-end PC is recommended.
  15. If a right-click doesn't show UNlink or RESTORE LINKED CLIPS then the clip is already unlinked or never was. But, as Nat reveals below, you can forgo that step. 1. Click the Cursor time box. It lights up blue. 2. Type "10" and press <enter>. Cursor jumps to the 10 minute mark on the timeline. 3. Click the left-mouse focus to the area to be excised (likely unnecessary), then click the chevron to the right of the SPLIT button and choose ALL AUDIO TRACKS. This automatically unlinks the audio/video. 5. Right-click this newly split-out audio clip that follows the initial ten-seconds, then click DELETE ... or left-click and press the <del> key on the keyboard. If the entire track vanishes then you have not split the audio track at the ten-second mark. Split.mp4
  16. In editing existing subs in your projects, or adding new ones, not seeing caching messages. But there are a few seconds of lag between typing and when the characters appear. v8.45. Perhaps that's to be expected when there is a wealth of ST in a lengthy project?
  17. Right-clicking the clip - either the audio or video track in the sequence - will reveal the UNlink choice IF they were initially linked and the RESTORE linked clips choice if they have been unlinked. If they were never linked then audio and video tracks are already separate, so that choice won't appear and you can proceed as above..
  18. To accomplish this with a typical video clip first UNlink them. Right-click either the audio or video track and UNLINK FROM... Next left-click the focus to the audio track and use the SPLIT icon. Click its chevron and choose the AUDIO TRACKS option. That done, position the red-lined cursor on the unwanted audio area and hit the <del> key or right-click and DELETE. Drag the new audio only clip and butt it to the initial ten-seconds. Alternatively, position the cursor at the ten-second split point, using the ||< or <|| buttons, then right-click the clip in the bin and Place On Sequence at Cursor. Make another split at the three-minute mark and delete the excess audio or simply left click the top of the red cursor at the desired end position and click the blue ] bracket that pops up above the timeline. If you make a mistake, press <ctrl-Z> to backtrack step-by-step, a many steps as needed.
  19. 8.56 will be updated shortly. Tests here with a number of preview and sequence snapshots saved without incident, using version 8.45.
  20. SNAP is disabled in one of the VP incarnations. You will need to reinstall repeatedly until you get it. The method for dragging the end of a clip to the left sans snap is shown above. Neither of these operations requires <alt>. A handy way to locate split points, an alternative to the buttons beneath preview, is <shift-right/left arrow keys>.
  21. A specific VP release has several variants; it's a marketing thing. Reinstall it numerous times (no need to re-download) and you may get the desired behavior. For example... This is what is seen here. The horizontal scissors bar is offset from the timeline cursor and IMO doesn't interfere. In some recent releases the scissors block is dark grey. To drag a clip end to the left, first create a slight gap by dragging the following clip to the right. No <alt> required. After resizing, rejoin it. snap.mp4 VP never resizes clips at transitions, but it will move them if the OPTIONS | EDITING tab default is "Move Clips to Overlap.' But only when there's insufficient space to transition.
  22. Suggest that you instead install this version. Are you seeing a stabilizing error? THE best way to get help is to share the project. It's easy, takes little time and can be private. Do not upload the exported file, just the PORTABLE PROJECT folder per the instructions at this link. Specify what clips you are attempting to stabilize and the stabilizer settings being used. Or upload the file in question, if it's a single file, in lieu of the project. How that can be done is also shown here... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to get a shareable, public link - not one that is restricted.
  23. ST_to_MONO.mp4 A copy of the new file should show up in the PC's MUSIC folder. If there's no Edit With Wavepad choice, just export and import manually.
  24. Can't think of how subtitles whould affect video or audio tracks. Something isn't kosher. Share the project. Be sure to SAVE PROJECT AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name so as to not overwrite prior saves. If SAVE PROJECT (no AS) is used, that will overwrite.
  25. Not playing in preview or not playing after export, in a viewer? How long is the project and what is the resolution of the bulk of the files that it contains? When you say "not playing" - what, specifically happens at the five minute mark? Share the project and someone will check it out and likely solve the problem. http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to get a shareable, public link - not one that is restricted.
