  1. Hi AQ VP version 6.10 Overlapping clips of white text on black bg with Transparency effect fade-out and Transparency fade-in appear OK . Nat (
  2. Hi The fade (or crossfade) transition shows this bug. This is a single white text clip "AAAA" set over a grey blank. To make it clearer there is no following clip. It has a short Fade transition added. The text fades as shown in detail below. It starts off normally and about 1/3 of the way through the transition it is complete (Image 4) but then it reappears in grey (images 5-7) before it fades out about 1/2 way through. The fact that this is a transition without a following clip and it is a .png image may have a connection to what occurs but fading out like this works OK with normal clips. Nat
  3. Hi Definitely a problem with the FADE and CROSSFADE Transition when applied to text clips. (. png images of the text also have the same problem.) Perhaps NCH should take a look as text fading is a required feature of any video editor and one really shouldn't have to overlap text clips to achieve a proper crossfade (or simple fade). Follow Borates instructions above. Add a 2 second fade to the end of the first text using the Transparency (Opacity) effect. Drag Text 2 up to Video track 3. Overlap it on Text 1 by 2 seconds and add a 2 second fade-in using the Transparency effect. As this shortens the overall duration of the second clip extend it by 2 seconds by dragging the right hand end out to the right. The relevant area should look like this... Nat
  4. Hi There is a change in tint but don't know why. I can't reproduce a tint change by doing multiple iterations of the export result... (i.e. previous result fed back into the process) On the right is the 10th iteration export compared to the first export. How many are you doing? Nat
  5. Hi Borate Thanks for taking a look. I'll check VLC but your test opens my VLC Firefox plugin and that shows the image on a black background so if there are black side borders I can'r see them. ? ? I'll have another play. Nat
  6. Hi Whilst looking at a different problem for someone I noticed that when a 450 x 800 portrait image (9-16), as shown here... (With corresponding data..) ....is exported as a 450 x 800 film clip it still has black bands to either side as shown below...even the though the export setting have been correctly set. The bands obviously are not as wide as the portrait image exported in a 16:9 format but they shouldn't be there. A single frame from the video is shown on the left and the export window on the right (showing output as being 450 x 800. An independant program shows the clip to be 450 x 800 H264 MPEG as expected. This suggests that the VP frame is correct but the exported image is not 450 x 800. Anybody check and explain? (NCH?) It may have a bearing on the exporting of portrait setting for 9:16 telephone clips. Nat

    Exporting

Hi With your project on the timeline click the green FILE button top left on the toolbar. This will open a menu. Now click the option Save Portable Project As. In the window that comes up select a folder from the display, or browse to a folder or just click Desktop from the left hand list. The folder name will appear in the box. Now click Select a folder. Your project and all the clip files along with a .vpj project file will be copied to a folder in the selected destination. This will be named with the date and time. All that is needed to recreate your project on a different PC is contained this folder. This your portable project. It can be transferred to another PC or a hosting site like dropbox etc. from where it can be downloaded and opened by the recipient for examination. Nat
  8. Hi You seem to have basically exported your video to your PC then transferred it to a DVD disc ..it's still data file.(.mov.) With Express Burn and other DVD authouring programs you select the DVD video burning option ... and Add the .mov file (or .avi or .wmv etc. to the list space. (They vary slightly) and when Burn Video DVD is clicked the program creates an AUDIO_TS folder and a VIDEO_TS folder on the disc. The AUDIO_TS folder is usually empty. The VIDEO_TS folder contains other files such VOB, BUP, and IFO files These are read by the player you use to play the video. It appears that you simply created a Data DVD ? Nat
  9. Hi After the trial period some free versions of VP limit the export options. Try exporting as an avi. You could also try a new download from https://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/ Nat
  10. Hi " So I followed your directions and I cannot get it to work. When I export it plays the video for a milisecond and then just the text slide is shown. " I can't see why the export shows the clip that was on Video track 1 playing for such a short time followed by just the text slide. In VP is the video track OK and of the correct duration and did it preview correctly? What were your export parameters? This is what happens here... (All clips and images had a 10 second duration....) A 16:9 clip with a 9:16 portrait image in the center was placed on Video track 1and with the VP preview screen set at 16:9 there was a black band on either side in which to insert the overlay text. Note: The text on the right and on the left (or a smaller image) were on Video track 2 and Video track 3. and placed directly over Video track 1 so they all lined up correctly above one another. This previewed correctly, all playing for the designated duration.Text either side of the image. Exporting this as a 16:9 MPEG4 (1280 x 720 ) The result played correctly. Substituting the 16:9 image clip for a 9:16 (450 x 800) image the export (16:9) played correctly as above (No difference seen) Substituting the 16:9 video clip for a previously exported 9:16 clip (450 x 800) the export played correctly with text on either side of the image. If you reset the preview display to 9:16 there will be no black bands in which to place text so things don't work. The text is placed over the image . Exporting the 16:9 sequence as a 9:16 clip resulted in the text being placed over the image as above. So in your case just load your portrait orientated clips to VP with the preview screen set a 16:9 resolution to get the black bars, add your text to each side and adjust as mentioned in the above post and export as a normal 16:9 Whilst playing around with this the thing I found a little odd was that a 9:16 image (450 x 800) exported as a 9:16 (450 x 800) MPEG4 STILL shows black bars to each side..albeit narrow ones. On paper there should not be any as the image size and export size were set the same. Anybody explain this? Nat
  11. Hi Do you get the same problem when you export to your PC? If it successfully exports as a video file then it should burn OK with Express Burn. Nat
  12. Hi Is you camera recognized as a "Video Capture device " by VP when you connect it and select Record? My Toshiba isn't but my webcam is and displays it's output for recording etc. If your camera is recognized I would assume VP records the video output in the resolution and AR of the camera. Must be lots of users that have done this so perhaps they might contribute to this thread. Nat
  13. Hi Note that if your slides are of different duration you can only do this up to the point where your shortest slide is reduced to zero duration. If individual slides need to be synced to the audio then you can drag their borders individually, but in this case don't group them. VP automatically closes any gaps if a slide is made shorter or pushes all other slides to the right if one is made longer. If I am synchronizing slides say, to music then I select everything to the right of the first slide (using SHIFT as per Windows select) and drag them to the right to create a gap. I then adjust the duration of the first slide to match the audio. Now I either Close the gap and repeat the process or just drag just the next slide back to joint up with the first, adjust it and so on. Nat
  14. Hi Have you tried converting them to a single sequence? Even though single large clips may stutter where they appear to join I don't think a sequence will. Worth trying it with two of your clips. Place first clip on the timeline. In Clip preview use the play button section to move the cursor to the end of the clip by clicking .>II Select the second clip in the clip bin and then in Clip preview use the PLACE button menu to Place Clip on Sequence at cursor Click the Sequence tab on the top toolbar and then click the NEW tab This clears the timeline and creates a single sequence from the clips. Open the Sequence clip bin Where there will be two sequences , yours (1) and a dummy (2) Place Sequence 1 on the timeline. Sound will be there but the track will appear empty. Does the sequence play without a stutter where the clips change? Nat
  15. Hi I am not sure if the the free version supports export of MPEG4 Try another export format or container e.g. .avi. You can download the latest version from here>> http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html?ref=nls191WA Save your project and then uninstall your current version (keep the original vpsetup.exe file if things go haywre) Nat
  16. Hi You don't need to crop the video. That just makes it smaller. Once you have set the preview to AR 9:16 the VP frame will be 9:16. Note that the clip preview will still be 16:9 and the thumbnails will be 16:9 but the active area, i.e. the video frame will now be 9:16 The chequered bars (or the black bars) are simply there to fill the frame. The resolution values you choose only affect preview resolution (and the processing time to generate, thumbnails and timeline etc. Lower values tend stop the incidence of the "Generating Preview" warning if that is a problem you may have.) You export your project simply by choosing the Preset Auto detect option in the export parameter screen. This will set the export to the resolution of the original clip. If you want something different you can set the values under the Resolution boxes Custom setting Nat
  17. Hi Personally I am not using IGTV but you can set up VP to preview and export the 9:16 format although the timeline will still show the clips in a 16:9 thumbnail. First go to Tools/Options/Display/ and change the values of width and height to an aspect ration of 9:16. (Or use the Custom) option) The resolution chosen can affect the speed of caching etc. so pick some lowish values for a start e.g. 225 x 400 You can change them later. The Preview display will now come up with the 9:16 AR but the Clip Bin and Timeline will still be 16:9 with the chequered border (or black bars) to each side but the area of the image is what you have set. Editing is no different to before except you will now be working within the preview area. When exporting simply click the Auto detect option the the export window or use the Custom settings obtained from the Resolution button menu to enter your chosen values. If you don't auto detect then the custom values should be those of the original clips. Pretty certain others might contribute to this thread if they have found other options. Nat
  18. Hi There are several ways you could do this. If you are simply using text then click the Add Objects tab abd then Add Simple Text. In the text editor set the font size to around 9 - 12 and type using a suitable text colour to contrast with the black border. Use a left justification and central screen position. Since the text editor screen does not match the scale of the 16:9 VP frame (a point mentioned in previous posts) you will have to check how many characters you can type before the text overlaps your image. (With font size 9 it is about 17) When the text is placed on the overlay track (Video track 2) it should appear to the left of the image. (You will probably have to adjust it) e.g. If you want text to appear on the right of the image you can simply use The Position effect to move it over. e.g.... If you have an image you wish to add then you can use the Scale effect to reduce it sufficiently so that it will fit into the border (around 1/3 on each axis) and then use the Position effect again to place it where you want it to go (left or right) Go into Sequence preview to monitor the positioning. e.g. Here is an image added in this way to the above project. (Note is placed on Video track 3) Hope this helps Nat
  19. Hi Further to my reply above.... " ....in order flip white text to black and the black background to white." Why not use black text on a white background in the first place? If you are doing the text through VP then you could add a blank white background clip (Under "Add Objects" tab.) and add black text to the overlay track. (In the text editor set the text to black and the text editor background to white so you can see it.) Better still use black text and set the Full background option to white and then there would be no need for the Negative effect or a blank white background clip. Nat
  20. Hi Are you certain that ALL the clips had the effect applied? You may have selected all the clips and then clicked the FX button on the first clip to apply the effect but even though the clips are selected or grouped the effect is only applied to the first clip. Proceed like this... With all the clips on the timeline.. Hover the cursor over the first clip and wait for the name to come up Press Ctrl + A. This will select ALL the clips. (which will go grey.) Click the Video Effects tab on the TOP toolbar...(Not the FX box) Hover over Filters in the menu that comes up Select Negative from the list. Select Apply to All in the dialogue box that appears. (This only comes up if you have multiple clips selected.) The effect chosen (Negative) will be applied to ALL the clips selected. The timeline should export in the normal way Nat
  21. Hi I assume you require the audio from the existing video clip on Video track 1 to remain as it is and play without a break. Simply drag and drop the clip to be added to the overlay track (Video track 2) and move it to the required position. The added video will play over the video on Video track 1. The audio from the added clip will appear on Audio track 2. It can either be unlinked and deleted or more simply, muted by clicking the loudspeaker icon at the left end of the track which will then have a red bar though it. Note that you can also move the cursor to the position where you wish to add the new clip; select the new clip in the clip bin and preview it. Under the preview window is a PLACE button. If you click the down arrow next to this you can select from the menu to place the clip on the overlay track at the cursor position. Nat
  22. Hi "Question: Does Videopad 'require' a video crossfade to enable additional (audio tracks 2, 3 and beyond) to fade in and out? Can you fade music tracks in and out at any point? Yes or no? " As mentioned above.....Video track 1 and Audio track 1 are linked (normally) and if the Crossfade video transition is applied between the clips then it is also automatically applied to the associated Audio track 1, (unless the option has been turned off) Separate audio tracks below are not affected. On the lower independant audio tracks (i.e. not linked to higher video tracks) and even when audio clips are on the same track and contiguous there is no X to enable an audio transition like a crossfade between them. If you want to crossfade the audio clips on these tracks then one must use individual tracks, overlap them and have fade in and fade out on the overlap. "Can you fade music tracks in and out at any point? " Yes, In a single audio track you can left click the track and preview in The Clip preview window. Along the centre of the waveform display (see Borate's image above and mine below) there is a thin purple line which represents the volume. This line can be grabbed at any point and dragged up or down to produce a fade-out or fade-in. It needs a bit of practice as any trims to the clip can be confusing as to where the changes in the sound start. In this way you can make multiple audio changes in a single track. The line produced is copied to the audio track. e.g.......... Any volume point (sound keyframe) can be adjusted. The centre of the waveform is the "normal" volume. Right click the track to remove the fades if required. This procedure can be used with any Audio track whether linked to a Video track or not.Obviously it won't produce a crossfade. Nat
  23. Hi Your images are now visible and clarify things a little. They do show the audio tracks are separate tracks and not simply two clips with audio following each other which I thought was what you had originally.? However, the track labelled Voice is normally associated with the video and should be Audio Track 1.(You labelled it Audio in the second image.) The track you have labelled Audio Track1 should be Audio Track 2 and is usually associated with Video track2 (Overlay) etc. So the layout you show is a little confusing.but I think it's just the labels you used. ? Anyway..In the top example..Yes-Audio track 2 will play to the end and stop suddenly as there is no fade out. It is not (apparently) connected with the video and therefore will not be affected by a crossfade transition. In the lower example audio track 2 should fade out. I have duplicated as far as possible your set out.... This is how it should work....... Two clips are on Video Track1. Clip 1 is silent (actually an image but I could have used a clip with the sound muted.) to match your image. The Audio for the second clip is on Audio track 1 which is normal. (It is labelled Voice but its the Audio for Video Track1.) I have added a 6 second crossfade with moving clips to the join but the audio is not ticked to crossfade.Even if ticked it would not affect the other Audio tracks. The SOFT Audio is on Audio Track 2 and is adjusted to to start at the start of the transition. This has a 3 second fade-in as shown by the blue line. (Click the audio on the track; select Fade-in and set 3 seconds.) Consequently it fades in with Clip2 The LOUD audio is on Audio Track 3 and extends to the end of the transition. This has a 3 second fade-out as depicted by the blue line and consequently fades out with Clip1. (Click the audio on the track; select Fade-out and set 3 seconds.) i.e. The LOUD track fades out to silence as the SOFT track fades into full. The 3 second duration is set as being half the length of the transition. The voice track simply starts at full volume at the join. (You can add a fade in if required.) In short..The Loud and Soft tracks overlap and have their fades equal and opposite for the length of the overlap. Nat
  24. Hi Note : The normal Crossfade transition won't require any separate soundtrack fades as the transition does this. Under Tool/Options/media have you got the Normalise audio box ticked? Any chance of posting an image of the affected section... Nat
  25. Hi Obviously something wrong as it usually easy to add an image to the timeline. First...is the image in the image clip bin visible as a thumbnail? It should have a data label beneath it saying what it is.Does it say .jpg? If it does then instead of dragging and dropping (which should nevertheless work) try this..... Place the red cursor line at the point you want to insert the image Left click the image in the clip bin so you see the Clip Preview window. Left click the down arrow to the right of the PLACE button.(Next to 360 button) Select Place on Sequence at Cursor. This should insert the .jpg at the required position. As this is an INSERTION of the image, the soundtrack will be cut so if you want the image to appear without a break in the soundtrack you should place it on the overlay track by using the option Overlay on Sequence at Cursor. This option will make the image play on top of the main track obscuring the video on track1but not effect the sound track which will play normally underneath. If you can't add the image in this way, (and you say dragging and dropping doesn't work) then the image would seem to be faulty. What happens when you use a ,jpg from a different source? If different jpgs also act in this way try uninstalling VP and then reinstalling it. If the video track plays OK then as a test stop the playback, right click the preview screen and choose Take a Snapshot of Clip. This will place a .png image in the image bin which should insert by all of the mentioned methods. If it doesn't then reinstall VP. Could be that Google "Deep dream" may have output a non regular or corrupt jpg... If you can display it on your PC in a graphics package can you resave it as a normal .jpg and use that? Later....Used an on-line image generator to produce some "dream" images......They worked OK with VP... Rather weird!! ? Nat
