  1. This is essentially a function of microphone settings in Windows. Open Control Panel and review the settings... Of course, adjustments and effects such as EQ can be applied to Videopad narration clips.
  2. MTS files are supported. The audio issue appears to be intermittent, and hasn't shown up in v13.28 here. Try Dangenfreak's 'auto-normalize' suggestion. Also try this, after closing Videopad. Using Windows Explorer (the file manager), delete all files in these folders. Then install this release. "C:\Program Files (x86)\NCH Software\Components" or a similar path without the (x86). "C:\Users\Howard\AppData\Roaming\NCH Software\Components" Share a file or two that doesn't load correctly... Upload the file/s to a free server, such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, get a shared (public) link, copy the link and paste it here or to me in a Private Message via the mail envelope in the top-right corner of this forum. When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view."

MPC-BE. There was an unusual pop when seeking in MPC-BE, which could hint at irregularities in the file that other players might handle differently - throwing off the sync. Old VHS content can be problematic.

Share the mp4 and someone will check it. But if you made the AVI above from the mp4, then there doesn't seem to be an export problem as it's in sync here. Click the blue Default Quality/Filesize link and try the MPEG4 encoder.

This is the AVI, as seen in the MPC-BE player. The AVI has some freezes but appears to be in sync throughout in Videopad We'd have to see the original to determine whether VHS -> AVI degraded the video. This is a screen capture from MPC-BE of the Videopad mp4 export. Effects enhancements could be made, of course, but the most limiting factor is the poor quality of the original.

Share the mp4 that you attempted to save as an WMV or AVI, as instructed above, and someone will check it out.

There is no difference in quality between the licensed and unlicensed releases. Videopad export is fine at the defaults. There are numerous resolution and quality settings, as Dangerfreak illustrates here. Export won't improve the original, yet won't be degraded at all if the project meets LOSSLESS export specs. Preview is of lower resolution. But if switched to full screen the display will be high-def, in most cases. Submit some samples for review.
  8. Have never seen that behavior reported. Only the selected clip will be affected UNLESS... more than a single clip has been selected (highlighted). Then, as Dangerfreak notes, all selected clips will be changed.
  9. When issues surface, check in here. Share a project when possible. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. But if things are working well for you there's no mandate to update. The latest can always be test driven, even if unlicensed, and will be full-featured during a trial period.
  10. Any release can be over-installed. No need to uninstall first. But keep in mind... For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info.
  11. Not the sequence tab above the timeline, but the SequenceS tab - above the bin. If it doesn't appear, start a new blank sequence by clicking the + sign on the sequence 1 tab. Do it this way, in v13.28. Imported original files, including the WAV overlaid on track 2. Auto-norm was on. Selected all files with <ctrl-A>. Clicked the 'replace chain' (left, green checkmarked icon) on the effects toolbar to apply to all. Waveform didn't change, but the meters and sound volume did... Gain_lower.mp4 6 hours ago, CDDavis said: "And because VideoPad is *louderizing* pre-normalized tracks exported from WavePad" Doesn't happen here with the attached file that was normalized in WP. Imported into VP, with auto enabled, the level actually drops a bit. Looney_WP.wav
  12. Not seeing that here. The Mystery file gain was drastically reduced in WP and added as track two in VP. Here's the comparison with the original... Setting a manual normalize peak to 31% does indeed quiet a selected file. To apply to all selected files, click... For more extensive audio leveling consider using Wavepad, with its many options. After the text mp4 was auto-normalized there, and imported into VP, the result was the same as the earlier test. VP auto-norm left the gain of both files unchanged, and optimal. One might think that text mp4 should have been similarly auto-optimized in VP. But, IMO, it is balancing levels across several files, whereas Wavepad is acting on only one. To uniformly effect audio on an entire project, click the Sequences tab atop the bin. Right-click the sequence and choose Save Sequence Audio as New Audio File. Import that file and place it on a track. Mute all original audio clips. Added effects will apply to the entire track. Waveforms do not track audio changes in VP. That could improve, and has been requested. When importing, the waveform does reflect actual levels. After importing a file with auto disabled, using manual (which would be rare) will distort. That bug has been reported.
  13. Thanks for sharing. No need to be concerned with This applies to audio recordings made only by Vdeopad. usually remains checked, as in the test here. (The WAV and mp4 files were at virtually the same level.) Wavepad has a number of normalize options, where calculations are made differently... Can't say which of those Videopad employs - likely Simple Peak - but that's not a guarantee that every auto-normed source will match. For example. while not claiming that this is the case here, a single high-level peak in a clip may reduce gain, while another clip that has no such peak will remain louder overall. Using v13.28, manual normalization was applied to the first 'thin' voice clip. To my ear, it doesn't have the broader dynamic of the second. The result was optimal levels for both, though the timeline waveform will not reflect the clip 1 manual normalization. In this case, the process seems to be working correctly, with comparable gain heard in VP preview and in the exported mp4... norm_test.mp4 If you share a completed project, as instructed in my March 25 post, further tests can be made. As chronicled in this thread, some normalization intermittencies have been recently reported. Click the caret at the top-right of the VP window to file a bug.
  14. There's little downside in testing v13.09. Later releases can always be reinstalled. No need to uninstall - just over-install. Let's check out the project, which is the best way to nail down issues. Please follow the four steps in the above post.
  15. No, don't believe that this will affect other products. But should it do so, they can be quickly reinstalled. Specifically, what problems? Under OPTIONS | MEDIA tab, have you tried toggling this option to the opposite state? Then restart the program. If this issue persists, try this release. Ignore any virus warning.
  16. Expand the timeline, using the slider at the bottom-right of the window... Perhaps there's an errant snippet on the track. If the images are on track 1, switch to Storyboard mode. That may reveal it. If you take a minute to share your project, someone will likely come up with a fix. The process is easy, quick and can be done privately. Just follow these steps... Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file. Get link --- Get a public link. If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view" Share --- Click COPY LINK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me. It won't be shared. * Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
  17. Yours may not be the latest. Try this one. Yes, 10.88 will work on Windows 11.
  18. This oddity shows up only occasionally, and may be AMD related? Run As Admin can be the default. Right-click the launcher, choose Properties | Compatibility tab and check the box.
  19. Indeed frustrating. V13.22 must have been a non-English release. What are the specifics of that AMD PC: CPU/GPU/RAM? Close the program, the right-click on the launch icon and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. Any better? If not, please supply your project for analysis. It's easy, takes only minutes and can be private.
  20. There is no v13.22 AFAIK. Install this version. Drop by again if this doesn't solve the issue. For protection, Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.
  21. Create a Position or Motion effect animation plot where the subject stays in the middle of the screen. Export at 16:9, at 15fps (which may minimize jerkiness). For more on animation see http://help.nchsoftware.com/help/en/videopad/win/effects_animating.html Then import that clip. Just as above, add the Zoom effect, using its 9:16 preset, then drag the box to center screen and export at 9:16. Here's an example where, in the 16:9 original, the subject walks from screen left to right...but now he's centered in a 9:16 frame with no borders.
  22. Begin with 16:9... Use the Zoom effect with the 9:16 preset. Center the subject by dragging it in the preview window... Export at 9:16. There will be no borders...
  23. Hardware can make a difference. And so can the file. The more GPU can be taken advantage of, the faster.
  24. Don't delete or move source files. Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. That's your protection. You can test the latest Windows release (v13.21) as a trial, then reinstall 8.42 or upgrade. Projects will be backward compatible. But those made with 13.21 or other recent versions may not load in 8.42. Only a single release can be on the PC at any one time. If you do not have your 8.42 installer, it and all others are available here. Ignore any virus warnings. To create a portable project that can be loaded onto any PC that has VP installed, first have the project loaded. Then click the 3-lined Menu at the top-left. Click FILE | SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS. All source files and the VPJ control file will be saved to the drive and folder you choose. It will be dated/numbered, like this... To load the project, simply double-click the VPJ.
  25. Allegedly. But you might be better off with this.
