  1. As far as I know, yes. As you saw on the WEB page that I referenced, EXport file types are limited in the "free" version, not IMport types.

If you find that you cannot use VP because the trial period has expired, and you were not offered the downgrade, go to the Windows Control Panel|Programs and Features, find the VP entry and double-click it.

The option to downgrade should appear, along with an option to totally uninstall.

  2. The "free" version will have some features disabled after several weeks, such as the capability to output in all but asf, wmv, and avi file types.

Other than that, it doesn't expire. Pay for it and everything will work.

  3. Very good. I know this group is not a conduit to NCH support, but I believe that I speak for others in thanking you for checking in to confirm problems, hinting at enhancements and welcoming user input.

Without breaking out of the marketing niche for VP, you might consider a secondary OVERLAP transition mode in addition to improving the existing CROSS FADE. Embracing CUDA and similar technologies would also be a boon.

  4. Clip doesn't vary here, as far as I can perceive. Perhaps a glitch in your connection or player, as you say.

In all fairness, after conducting a CROSS FADE test with another editor, I did see a freezes in both the FROM and TO video that occurred at mid-transition. Minimal.

There is no change in total length in the C F mode but there is in the OVERLAP mode (not available in VP). But it masks the freezes.

VP has a tendency to lose frames during a transition, as seen in the demo clip. However, a shift of a frame of two in timecode of the FROM or TO clip may improve results.

And the low-res Videopad preview isn't always indicative of the finished product, which can look smoother.

Too much time spent on this, Nat. I no longer have to scrutinize this stuff for my livelihood. ^_^ Appreciate the workarounds and diagnostics that you've taken the time to unearth.

  5. This still frame effect on dissolves although annoying, can be reduced (or removed) if the ends of the two clips you are using are shortened by either dragging them them in or using the IN/OUT tabs in the left preview pane. You must "fold" (so to speak) each end under by at least half of the dissolve duration. In this way there is sufficient "hidden" clip in each section for VP to create the transition without using a still from the end of each clip to make up the required duration.

Good analysis, Nat, and as a former TV quality control editor I am well aware of the concepts that you mention. But they don't seem to apply here...

In the first dissolve of the test URL, above, a split was made in the middle of the FROM clip (gal talking). Continuous ample footage of her followed. The TO clip had plenty of lead video.

In the jarring frame-jump seen in transition #2, the wall of lights clip didn't end anywhere near where the freeze and frame-jump are seen.

Just yesterday, using 3.02, I split in the middle of a scene of men walking - crossfading to another moving scene. The men jumped a frame mid-dissolve. Seems that 2.41 may have been less prone to these problems.

Considering that I have received no company feedback via "support" channels, my sense is that this serious and basic issue is of scant concern. Perhaps, as you hint, it is a design limitation.

  6. You're on the right track, and it pains me to be a pest ... but the freeze/jump-frame transition bug is still evident. Just tested.

Please see http://hevanet.com/hb/freeze.mov for an earlier test. Woman freezes on first dissolve; scene freezes and jumps on the second. Often, the first transition on the timeline is good, the others - iffy.

    Working on it?

  7. I am using VideoPad Video Editor Professional v 3.01 (Unlicensed Trial Version).

I have facing problem while exporting a video when I am trying to split it for a music part.

The picture in the video exported was blank or should I say vanished on the right side of the video.

Don't know that this will help, or that it duplicates exactly what you were attempting, but I saved your image as a .jpg and resized it to 1920X1080.

It was dragged to the VP 3.01 timeline and extended to :30, with music, then exported as a 1920X1080p AVI.

Here's the result, which doesn't appear to be cut off.

    And here are the specs...

  8. Oh thank you. Where would i be without your wisdom? Does not matter when i open my saved file and my backup it is BLANK. Please help or be quiet. I dont need your comments that implies your greatness and my stupidity.

A shame that you perceive it that way; many folks aren't as knowledgeable as you and might appreciate the suggestion. I'll take pains not to disturb you in the future.

  9. When I export my movie to create a DVD movie, the system scans for available driver, so far so good.

But the burned DVD can not play on any of my DVD players (SONY), but plays very well on all my PC’s.

But if I save it as computer data (.mpg) and then burn it back, I can read it on my DVD players.???

Tested 3.01 here with a DVD/RW disk. It successfully saved a one-minute movie comprised of two clips, though the process did throw an error at the conclusion of "finalizing."

Plays on both the PC's DVD drive and on a free-standing DVD player - which it likely would not if the disk were not finalized. Videopad caused that to happen automatically; I see no user input for that process.

  10. I have the same problem. Is there any way to restore the lost sequence? The length of the sequence is the length of my movie, so that's right but there is no audio nor video and it says that the sequence is empty.

Routinely use FILE|SAVE PROJECT and FILE|BACK UP FILES TO FOLDER. That won't prevent the problem, but it could help lower your blood pressure.

  11. Also, as the responsible developer for VideoPad I'm very interested in seeing your full list of recommendations from your evaluation!

Forgive the hijacking of the thread, but as you are the very first developer that I have run across here, please consider giving priority to fixing the transition freeze/jump problem in 3.0 that has been voiced many times in this forum and via your support e-mail channels. And do drop by often. ^_^ Gracias.

  12. I'm still using the free version but here's the thing:

Before it used to save in HD, but now it's in horrible quality. I know it's not the clips because a) I can see the difference from the original over and b ) I've used some of the same clips in other videos and they saved in HD.

So...does VideoPad quit saving in HD after awhile of use if have the free version? (I could understand if it's always like that, but how come i could previously and now I can't??)

Also, I'm using 3.00 right now

No such restriction that I am aware of in 3.0. In the SAVE dialog box click the small arrow to the right of the word "custom" and selected the desired format.

Just tested an HD file - the original compared with the same video saved from VP, after being added to the timeline. To my eye the results were comparable.

  13. I have been using AVI clips with Adobe Premiere for years. I am trynig out videopad for a friend who wants some help getting started with editing.

I am trying to use the same AVI clips with videopad.

Everything seems to work except the video picture remains black on videopad.

Be more specific, please. Does the AVI show up as black in the media area after import, on the timeline, or at output when you save the file?

No problem with AVIs here, using both 2.41 and 3.0.

However, since AVI is a "container" it is conceivable that you lack the codec to play the files contained therein. Do they play in WMPlayer?

Check out what Wikipedia has to say about AVI.

  14. Is funtionality restored when you revert to the original version, prior to updates? What specific updates were made? Is disk space sufficient?

Try saving a portion of the production - say one-hour - then clear the timeline and load what you saved as clip. Now load the balance of the material.

File a report, stressing that you paid for the program. Perhaps, even in lieu of purchasing a support package, that will stir the tech troops to respond.

  15. I have a .png file that I would like to use with a transparent background. However, I add the watermark to the video, the background of the file appears to be black instead of transparent.

    I'm using v2.12

    Thanks in advance.

(Alternatively, is there an easier way to add white text with a black outline to a video with this version of the software?)

I cannot comment on version 2.12, but with 3.0 text can be overlayed easily. After creating the text and dragging it to the timeline, just above the video you want to watermark, right-click the text

file and choose "current effect properties" and click the small arrow to the right of "auto levels." Choose OPACITY and run it down to about 25%. Close. There's your watermark.

The opacity setting may work with the PNG as an overlay as well. If there is an opacity setting in 2.12, test it.

3.0/3.01 is available for install as a trial at the NCH WEB site.

  16. I am presently trying out VideoPad 3.00. I like everything about it except the screen interface colors. Particularly the small green 'building a preview' (or rendering or saving) line. It is so thin (and the green so light in color) that I usually can't see it against the other colors.

Is there any way to change the color of this line? I see nothing in the Options menu.

It's unclear exactly where/what "small green" line you see. Can you be more specific? There is no UI I'm aware of that changes the look of Videopad.

  17. Trying out VideoPad 3.00. While importing clips, the first clip I import disappears when I import the second one...and so on and so on. If I try to import several files at once, only the first clip from the batch imported shows up.

Using 3.0, and not seeing that here. Tested import of four video files of varying formats all at once - and separately, one after another. Also tested two still images. All of them appeared in the media lists.

Be sure to look under the correct tab: SEQUENCES - VIDEO FILES- AUDIO FILES - IMAGES.

  18. Whenever I save the video, it would work if there was only two tracks. Now I'm finding that if I used more than those two, it gets to about 64%-70% through and crashes.

As 3.02 is beta (a test version), it should not be relied upon. Perhaps the current 3.0 release will do better...

It might be prudent to first save your project before uninstalling/installing.

  19. I have created 24 Sequences, each has a number of clips.

I realize now that I need to change the Order of the Sequences, i cannot slide the Sequences horizontally to reorder them or find a way to change their order unless I do a messy re do.

Not totally clear on what you have, but here are two procedures worth a thought...

Select specific scenes, then SEQUENCE|COPY. Park the cursor where you want it on the timeline and SEQUENCE|PASTE, to insert.

Or select specific scenes. Copy them. Then SEQUENCE|NEW SEQUENCE and paste the scenes you copied to the timeline.

FILE|SAVE MOVIE. Insert those saved scenes into another sequence as an independent clip.

I am on the free home version, if I upgrade to the professional version will this issue be solved

    Very unlikely, IMO.

  20. I just downloaded the new version of videopad, and everything is now different. See the attached image. WTF is that?? Why can't I remove this space? It plays like a blank clip and I can't get rid of it.

It appears that there is an odd transition at the head, which may be the problem. Still, try a right-click on the unwanted area, then "delete selected clip." Or right-click, "close gap."
