  1. jonesri, I said basically the same thing in a different post. What we need is a video that shows the process in detail! Cnr-N@H added a video in anoither thread to explane his clip marking method, but the video has no audio, and it moves to fast for me to see what he is doing. "....pull back the ends of your clips to a little more than the depth of the transition bar." <snip> I've gotten a lot of good advice from these guys, but this one completely stumps me!!

The essence is to provide a video pad at the end of the FROM clip and the start of the TO clip to cover the length of the transition.

If a 30fr dissolve, as an example, one full second of "extra" video should be available on both clips.

As the diss begins the TO video ramps up. At the halfway point - 15fr - both clips are the same amplitude. At the 30fr end of the transition, the FROM video ends.

Unfortunately, VP does not transition well, even when that method is employed. And no pad may be available for a particular clip.

Some of the dozen or so editors that I have tested also momentarily freeze during transitional video but with VP I have seen jump frames, doubled frames, and changes in earlier transitions when later ones are added.

A rethinkng of the basic design may be warranted...

Until that occurs this link discusses alternatives that result in smooth VP transitions.

  2. When I add text in VideoPad, and have punctuation such as a semicolon, an exclamation point or a question mark in it, it is not there when I upload the video to YouTube.

Does it do the same with another font? Try several.

  3. Never once has anyone from NCH, management, developers, and/or support acknowledged in writing and/or on this forum that there is a major problem with the building preview feature and rendering output.

That's not truly the case, though rarely do NCH reps comment here. In the other thread where you address essentially the same issue NCH checked in with the following on April 4...

"I can confirm that the bad transitions bug and "Building Preview" problem will be fixed soon (probably the next Win-EN release). You can also look forward to reduced memory usage and faster rendering of video."

At no cost, VP is a bargain. No watermark, and virtually all of the licensed features intact. If you paid for a license and find it unsatisfactory, then requesting a refund might be the best route to end frustration.

As you likely know, there are many competitors in the VP price range - some more sophisticated, some less - and each has its bugs.

  4. Is there a way to rearrange clip positions on an upper track (ie. Track 2 and higher) without overwriting or leaving gaps in the original sequence? As I see it if you move a clip to another position in the timeline it overwrites at its new position and leaves a gap where it was.

Select (highlight) the clip to be moved and all tracks to its right, then drag it.

To close a gap easily right-click in it and CLOSE GAP.

To drag a clip onto another track - between other clips (but not overwrite them) - create a gap that is larger than the new. After insertion, close any gaps.

  5. I have dealing with some pretty long asf or wmv files (2 to 3 hours.) The audio is in sync with these files, but when I import into Videopad (2.41) for editing, the audio goes out of sync... seems to be the further into the file the more out of sync the audio becomes.

What audio encoding is used in the original files?

  6. I am having a similar problem - the audio signal is being recorded, but I cannot hear it while in Capture ...

Using Win7, VP 2.41, with a Kaiser Baas device between my VCR and computer

Don't know what your set up is there, but try this...

Right-click the sound icon at the lower right of the screen and choose RECORDING DEVICES.

Double-click on the default device - likely STEREO SPEAKERS or LINE IN.

    Click the LISTEN tab.

Check the "listen to this device" box.

  7. I used to edit professionally and I've lost count of the amount of edit systems I've tried recently. All I want is a simple editor with a basic timeline, easy trimming and simple fades/mixes.

Every single one has fallen down in some way or other.

That does seem to be the case, doesn't it. ^_^

The free version of VP is a bargain, but in its current state has several glitches that discourage purchase of a license. Reportedly, some of these shortcomings are known and soon to be fixed.

In the interim, this information should help with smooth effects/dissolves.

  8. Hi, thank you for your reply, does this work for selecting clips on the timeline?

The timeline is where I tested it. <ctrl-click> works as well here. Don't be fooled by the fact that the multi-selection color may not be the same as when a single clip is selected. Try it out with copy/paste.

    This in version 3.02.

  9. I want to put it into widescreen...

You can OUTPUT in widescreen, or several other resolutions, and many file formats. To choose, click the arrow to the right of "resolutions." A drop-down box will appear.

  10. So far I have not been able to get a single video to display anything other than a single frame at the beginning. Yes, I have extended the picture throughout the full duration of the audio. Yes, I have tried various encoding options and output file formats. The preview built into the interface always shows the image throughout the video. The preview button that gives me a pop-out also shows the image throughout the video. However, every output file displays only a single frame of the image for a split second, almost not even noticeable, and then displays black for the rest of the video.

Not seeing that here - a 3' still (default length as set in options) with 3' music. AVI default settings, 854 X 480 NTSC 29.97.

How much space is unused on the drive where VP is installed? Tried a reinstall?

  11. I am trying to load .VOB files from a DVD into Video Pad Editor 3.02 and the video has blank squares or streaks all over the screen. The DVD plays without a problem on my DVD Player. Not sure what could be the issue.

    Neither am I...

but a test here with two VOB files that had first been copied to the hard drive worked as it should. 3.02 converted and placed them in the media area.

After insertion on the sequence, they played in the sequence window and looked good.

Consider installing the latest video driver from the manufacturer ... or from the chip supplier's WEB site (NVidia or AMD). Post a VOB to a server and create a link and someone will take a look.

  12. Hi I just started using VideoPad and the first thing I see after I add a few videoclips I want to use is this screen, with pixealated/blurry preview and also the exported video is the same pixelated mess.

Hints at video inadequacies. Please list your system specs.

  13. Does anyone know how to change the saved snapshot details with Videopad version 3.02?

You can right click on a clip and EDIT OUTSIDE OF VIDEOPAD. This will bring up your external editor of choice. Then change the image as desired and FILE|ADD it to the "images" clips bin.

If you don't have an image handler here is a free utility that does it all.

  14. What is the intended use scenario(s) of the "Sequences" clips which appear in the media bin on the Sequences tab?

One could create multiple sequences, each containing a specific arrangement of clips on the timeline - perhaps to compare how scenes will flow when edited in various ways.

Or sequences can be used to build a project incrementally, without having to save each increment. Timeline clips can be copied - <ctrl-c> - and pasted - <ctrl-v> - between sequences.

After several sequences are built, SAVE PROJECT AS (a .vpj file), but don't produce (export) it.

Later, when the project is restored, all sequences will load. Choose the best of them or continue to improve the project. Then produce (export) the finished work of art.
