  1. .mov They were taken with my iPhone. They worked fine in the previous version that I used with Vista. They has just started with I started using the Win8 version.

Put one on a server and list the URL here, if possible. Someone will test it.

It is probable that your new machine doesn't have the required codec. MOV is a container. Different encoders within that wrapper produce different results.

I have two .mov files of identical material here, made with different encoders; one plays in VP 3.04, the other delivers audio only.

First suggestion would be to convert the file to another format and test it again.

  2. Hello :

Do anyone know which is the easy way to cutoff some clips at the middle under the master video clip?

Position the marker red line at the beginning of the portion to be cut and click the SPLIT icon (the scissors).

Position the marker red line at the end of the portion to be cut and click the SPLIT icon.

Right click on the segment that is to be cut and click "delete selected clip."

    Basics are reviewed

  3. I've also made some improvements to the caching algorithm when caching images, blank and text clips.

Also, I've fixed the problem with cache files being regenerated when they don't need to be.

These improvements will be included in the next release.

Splendid! Please don't forget to visit the DVD production failures.. Either errors (though the task is completed) or total failure have been reported by several users.

  4. The sole NCH employee who occasionally comments here has indicated that developers are aware of this and other oft-cited problems. No target date for fixes has been mentioned. 3.04 is beta.

  5. We cannot get the simple crossfade function to work. It is jumpy and just doesn't work - yet was fine on the older version.

As you have discovered, 2x versions won't install to Windows 8, but that O/S isn't the problem; VP is.

Workaround suggestions can be found here.

  6. ...I shall have to load up V3.0x to check it works in the same way.

Does appear to. It may be easiest to use the zoom slider at the left-bottom of the window - to expand the timeline. Then you can < > frame-by-frame, until you pinpoint the exact spot.

  7. I don't understand how to limit the size of a project so that it will successfully fit onto a blank dvd when i export it. I have created projects that have spent 6+ hours preparing to 'burn' only for a message to appear telling me the file is too big - but then i have to start again, wasting the whole time spent trying to burn?

An alternative would be to produce to the hard disk - testing different formats - to determine suitable quality vs. file size. Then use another burning application to create the DVD.

  8. Would there be any advantage to transferring my files from the camera through the HDMI port to the computer? Would the resulting edits in Videopad look any better? My computer has no HDMI port.

An HDMI OUTput would be used to connect a camera to a TV that has an HDMI INput. A single cable is all that's required, instead of separate video and audio wires.

As for a PC that has HDMI OUT, a friend streams NetFlix that way because his isn't a "Smart" Internet TV. So, via HDMI, he connects his PC to the TV and watches the flix on a big screen.

  9. Whenever I import a clip into videopad, be it recorded with a camera or a screen recorder, a large portion of the video becomes transparent. When I drag it into the video track, those areas become black...

It's unclear what the video shows; doesn't appear to be VP, but rather various apps loaded from the Desktop.

Specs for your machine? Consider installing the latest video driver from the chip or card manufacturer's WEBsite.

  10. Is there any way to do this (using the two-headed arrow) without making the second clip shorter? I just want to make a clip longer by adding a second or two back in, but not change the duration of the clip following it.

Very easy. Select clip #2. Instead of clicking on the line between the clips, drag the second clip to the right. Then right-click on the gap and CLOSE GAP, or drag clip two to the left. Look here.

  11. Working with 3.04. I wanted to move some audio in a stereo audio track so it rests mostly on the left channel. Oddly, I noticed for the first time that there is no audio mixer in this editor (or if there is, I can't find it)...am I missing something?

    You're missing something.^

NCI pushes a suite of tools, as you may have noted from the numerous shell extensions (right-click menu items) and shortcuts that they load when VP is installed - a marketing practice that some may find annoying.

Right-click the audio clip (in the media area, not on the timeline) and click "edit outside of VP." That will open Wavepad, where you can choose STEREO PAN from the EFFECTS menu.

Beware when saving! You're dealing with the audio clip file that you imported to VP. Changes will overwrite that file. Use a dupe file for the source, to protect the original.

  12. I am talking about how you would have like four windows in one screen. Like if I recorded my self I three times I would see myself in three different places in the finished video.

Yes, possible ... with judicious usage of overlays and positioning.

  13. While your main video is being displayed full screen can a completely different video be playing in the middle of it or off to one side at the same time?

    Yes. Add another video track.

In 2.x Videopad versions click on OVERLAY. In 3.x add a second video track by dragging a clip into the area above the earlier track. Then change its size, location, rotation, etc. as desired.

Higher numbered video tracks overlay lower numbered tracks. See

  14. Is it possible to have multiple videos spliced together with multiple screens in one video?

Are you referring to split or quad-split screens?

I want to be sure before I spend the money but I would like to get it in time for the low price deal.

Before you plunk down bucks give the trial version a run. After it "expires" it is fully functional but for loss of some output formats. 3.x is in need of refinement in several areas; that's allegedly in the works.

When/if you get the expiration notice, open Control Panel|PROGRAMS AND FEATURES and double-click Videopad, to uninstall. You should be offered a downgrade to the FREE version.

Later, if you're sold on VP, purchase it. Editors of this class are often "on sale."

Also is there an instruction manual or some sort of tutorial I could use to learn how to make videos.

Not really. The HELP file is weak. However, there are a few

on the Net. Be sure that you are viewing 3.0x tutorials, unless you prefer the older 2.41 version (Google for it), which has fewer features.
  15. I have a 12 minute video clip that is my source, which I imported into the project. I wanted to create subclips of that with logical names . . . so I set an in and an out, and then duplicated the clip. I renamed the duplicate (e.g. "wide shot living room" for example). I went through the whole video and created about 30 of these renamed duplicates. I saved the project. Next time I opened the project, all the duplicates were there, but it did not keep the new names. They all had the name of the original 12 minute clip, although it remembered the IN/OUT chosen for each one.

Not seeing that behavior here, using version 3.04.

I set IN/OUT marks on several preview window clips. For each I then clicked the "duplcate" icon and the clip appeared in the media area as <original clip name(1)>.

After right-clicking on the clip and renaming them I saved the project, then closed it and reopened. The clips had retained the changed names.

  16. Odd. I see three choices when the Videopad entry in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS is opened: uninstall, repair, nothing.

You might REinstall the software, to establish the correct paths and registry entries - THEN try the uninstall once again.

  17. No, when I go to Programs and Features, right click and click Uninstall, it opens VideoPad, where I get the message that my trial is up. It wont let me uninstall it.

  18. Okay, I'm none too happy with version 3.02 (and obviously I'm not alone in that) but never the less if I bought it, and then a new and better version came out (one hopefully with fixes for problems noted on this forum), would it be a free upgrade, or would I have to buy it again? And how does one actually purchase it?

    From the NCH site...

"Please be aware if you purchased more than 3 months ago you may need to purchase an upgrade to use the current version.

For upgrade pricing go to http://www.nch.com.a...rade/index.html with your old registration ID number and Key."

    First thing to check...

Download the latest (3.04 is a BETA version) and after installing attempt to register it with your license #.

  19. After moving a clip with the green arrow the preview goes away and you need to again select the file and then expand the green line with the + box until the file is ready to make edits. Is there a way to change 3.02 to work like 2.4?

The PV does indeed go away, but clicking on the clip brings it back - with the last IN/OUT marks intact - ready for new INS and OUTS. It is unclear what you mean by the need to "expand the green line with the + box."

  20. It isn't noncommercial. It's telling me that my 14-day trial is up.

You should be able to continue, with slightly impaired VP usability: only AVI, ASF and WMV will be available during export.

Control Panel|PROGRAMS AND FEATURES. Right-click on the VP entry and see if it doesn't offer the free downgrade.

  21. I downloaded a supposed free version of VideoPad from Soft32 and when I go under my control panel and click "Uninstall/Change" it just opens VideoPad and I see the message that my free trial is gone. It won't say anything about actually uninstalling it.

Windows Control Panel|PROGRAMS AND FEATURES. Find Videopad, right-click and uninstall.
