  1. ...The "Log in to post" button at the top of the page is no longer active and more importantly new posts since my last visit are no longer highlighted and this was quite useful.

Agreed. The forum should be accessible without sign-in, as it was earlier and is now, but unread posts should be in boldface.

  2. I have tried 3 times to upload a project to youtube with no success. I get an error message box. I was able to go to YouTube and upload the temporary .flv file but the quality seemed degraded.

Try another file type, perhaps MPEG4 or WMV.. Here are those that YouTube supports...

    • .MOV
    • .MPEG4
    • .AVI
    • .WMV
    • .MPEGPS
    • .FLV
    • 3GPP
    • WebM

  3. How do I select a single track, rather than SELECT ALL or CLOSE GAP?

Use the standard Windows convention: select the first track, then hold down <shift> and select the last. All tracks between them will be selected.

UNlink and lock the audio track if necessary.

  4. VideoPad v3.10 for the Windows platform has been released.

Slo-mo video is improved. But perhaps not ready for prime time

When the middle of three video clips is slowed, slowed video from that clip is appended to the end of the original material on the timeline. My test was at 50% speed. The excess can be excised.

Thanks Connor. Now if only you could convince marketing that it would be in their best interest, during install, to cease adding context and start menu items for products that the user hasn't installed.

And to always prompt for consent before installing an NCH module that they may not want.

IMO, users should be given a UI choice to remove shell integration and an option to list start menu items - especially those for programs that are other than the one being installed.

  5. i am having the same issue on 2 computers. if i slow down the clip, 2 things happen, sound gets garbled and video turns black. XP and win7. where is the fix?

Likely in the next version. Slo/fast-mo aren't working correctly, as experienced here and reported by others.

  6. Click on the frame you want, in the timeline. Then click on the "camera" icon that's near the right hand edge of the timeline preview window.

The image will be saved to your user|PICTURES folder as a large 1920X1080 .png file. For emailing you may want to open it in an image editor

    to resize it smaller. Perhaps 640 X 480 or 800 X 600.

Videopad will open an external image editor that you specify, under OPTIONS|OTHER|IMAGE FILES. If you go that route, first add the saved snapshot

to the image clips list, then right-click on it and choose EDIT OUTSIDE OF VIDEOPAD. Edit as desired, then save it and attach it to a mail message.

NCH makes the free Photopad. And then there's the world's most popular free editor - http://irfanview.com...ew.com During install UNcheck extra options,

    such as toolbars.

  7. I am completely new to video editing. I would like to select a single frame of a video clip and save it as an image file suitable for Email.

  8. After editing my videos, I would like to add chapters so when played on my DVD player, I can simply skip to the next mark (chapter) that I have defined. Right now I forward on the DVD which is time consuming and not goods for the media

That should not hurt the media, as it's a optical process; nothing touches the disk.

    From NCH HELP FAQ...

"Yes. Right-click on the timeline and select Set Bookmarks. These bookmarks will be used to create chapters on the burnt movie."

  9. It seems there is no way around.

This SW is not able to provide very fine editing at least for the audio track.

Francesco, If you need precision audio cutting consider NCH Wave Pad in conjunction with Videopad. It's a full-featured audio editor and free - with some format limitations.

  10. I cut my video and added transitions. Now half my video is just a blacked out a screen. Only the first 1-2 seconds of the clip shows then it blacks out and does the same thing for 5 other clips. Then it randomly works for the rest. What is going on?

Consider installing the latest video driver, from the chip manufacturer's WEBsite.

    http://nvidia.com/drivers

    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx

If problems develop, use the device manager "graphics adapter" item to roll back to the previous driver.

Listing your system's specs may help folks diagnose the problem.

  11. Everything I try to add my .avi video footage to the Video Pad I get a error message saying fail to load. I've looked all over the site for help and simply don't know what to do.

If possible, upload one of those files to a server (DropBox/SkyDrive/ADrive, etc.) and link to it here. Someone will take a look.

  12. Hi

"The .vpj project file ... and the project files that it references must all be saved and accessible on the other PC."

Not only that...."accessible" means they should also be placed in the same named location and have the same file path as on the original computer.

In retrospect I see that when "backup project files to a folder" is used, an "untitled.vpj" file is created in addition to saving the project's files. All the pieces are in the same user-specified folder.

So there is no need to "save project.file." The .vpi can be renamed, and double-clicked to restore the project.

  13. Hi! I'm pretty new to this, but have been editing simple videos at work fairly successfully. I recently had the bright idea of bringing files home to continue editing various video clips. So far I've been unable to import project files in progress into the identical VideoPad software I have on my PC at home. What am I doing wrong? All of the various pieces are there, but none of the editing.

    See the HELP file.

Click the ? mark at the top right of the screen, then click on PROJECTS|CONCEPTS. That info and the links it contains will guide you.

The .vpj project file ... and the project files that it references must all be saved and accessible on the other PC.

  14. The files for all of the projects will be saved in the videopad cache folder.(which can become quite large  ).

Just to be clear, .VPJ files seem to prefer being saved to the user|VIDEO directory (folder). The files used in those projects are in the large cache: USER|APP DATA|LOCAL|TEMP|VIDEOPADCACHE.

I have observed that requests to open a project VP usually look in the VIDEO directory, but at times it's been user|DOCUMENTS|MY DOCUMENTS|VP PROJECTS instead, where logically one would think projects should be stored. There appears to be no option to specify the save directory (folder).

  15.

However although both clips seem to be positioned correctly in the right hand preview window , the thumbnails of clip2 under the left preview pane as well as on the sequence line only show as the landscape icon although the left preview itself displays the half images of both clips individually correctly. Playing the complete sequence though continually shows the "Building Preview" message.

I don't see anything wrong with your layout, Nat. See http://hevanet.com/hb/test.avi

  16. I occasionally use looping gifs in my videos, and I'm disappointed to learn that none of them seem to be working. Is the .gif format not supported by the software?

GIFS won't play in VP (or some other editors). But that doesn't mean that all is lost. They must be deconstructed first. Here's an alternative to Nat's suggested method...

Download the world's most popular FREEware image manipulator, Irfanview, from http://irfanview.com. Double-click the small file to quickly install.

(UNcheck any offers for toolbars and the like.)

Load the GIF. Under the Irfanview OPTIONS menu click on EXTRACT ALL FRAMES, and save to a folder of your choice.

Open VP and load all the frames (clips) to the timeline. Change duration of each clip to about 10 frames. There's your reconstructed GIF in VP.

If you want to repeat the action, first produce it to a file. Then load that file onto the timeline as many times as you wish. Or COPY|PASTE on the timeline.

  17. Can't agree with that at all. What programs? In the past when I was in the business, I used Edius, Adobe, Sony, Power Director, Magix, Lightworks, and many more, and never, never had a cross fade freezing problem with those editors, regardless of the length of the effect.

When two clips have no video to spare - at the end of the FROM clip and the beginning of the TO clip - a crossfade freeze seems inevitable; there's no video from either side to cover the full fade duration.

Perhaps what you witnessed in other programs was an overlap, not a crossfade, which VP doesn't offer.

I just now tested a 3.0 crossfade in PowerDirector 11. It performed in exactly the same manner as VP. At the head of the diss the TO video was frozen. At the mid-point, the TO video UNfroze and the FROM video froze for the remainder of the transition. I also tested this when both clips had been trimmed, which meant that there was video not used at the end of the FROM clip and the beginning of the TO clip. Same result. The transition did not incorporate trimmed video.

Lightworks is a high-end professional tool, a different animal. Don't know how it handles transitions, but I'll wager that it overcomes this behavior.

  18. "Transitions do not function correctly" ... did this issue ever get reolved?

Pretty much, in the latest edition. Don't see much "jumping" now. However, it's the nature of crossfades to "freeze." Happens in other editing programs as well. You probably won't notice when fades are of of short duration.

  19. Upon updating to version 3.04, one major problem has had me avoiding the program. When adding any video or image files to my project the instant the clip preview loads the file and begins to show it, it crashes.

It may help to install the latest video driver from the chip manufacturer's WEB site. Shouldn't hurt, as these drivers are backward compatible unless noted otherwise.

  20. Ok. I just downloaded 3.41 and it's bad. It slows down what I'm doing in my browser, and it is still slow and building preview, even after I deleted the cache.

Video editing is resource intensive. Please list your PC's specs. At least a dual-core processor (quad-core preferred), mid/higher-end video card, 8G RAM, and 30G-100G unused on the C:/ drive is advised.

That's not to say that non-linear editors won't run with lesser resources, but this invites the frustration that you are experiencing.

From where did you download 3.04? The original incarnation had serious slowdown problems. A later version, which they should have given a different #, was much improved.

  21. I'm new to creating videos and have purchased VideoPad. Can anyone recommend a good book on understanding video editing terms, how the process works, and how to use VideoPad?

Visit the Videopad YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/nchsoftware.

Also see this PDF document: http://tinyurl.com/qxvwuh8

For an overview of non-linear editing (as with Videopad) see http://entertainment...ng-machine1.htm (AVID is a brand name of a professional editing application)

There are many books that explain the concept. Here are two...
