  1. Upload a captured file so someone can take a listen. Use a free server, get a shareable link to the file then post that link here or to a private message (click the folder at the top-right of the window). And note the Windows record mixer and device settings options... http://help.nchsoftware.com/help/en/videopad/win/content_capturingvideo.html
  2. What version did you purchase? The latest is here. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. Did you stabilize any clips? Did you allow the project to fully cache, as verified by the completion of the green line above the thumbnails, and loading of the audio clips in the bin (top-left)? If the issue persists the best way to get to the bottom of it is to share. We'll take a look. It's easy, takes little time and can be private. Follow the PORTABLE project instructions here... Here's how... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. It won't be passed on or retained. Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to get a shareable link to post.
  3. Storyboard mode is good for revealing fragments, as long as they are on track one. Fade in brings up a clip from zero opacity to 100%. Fade through takes clip one from 100% to zero, then fades up clip two from zero to 100%. It's a dip between clips. Duration can be set. .500 looks reasonable good, but you may opt for a full second: 1.000. The f appears only on the first clip - meant to fade up at the head of the project. But if there's a gap between clips, it also will be available on the first clip after a gap. The EFFECTS choices do include Fade IN/OUT and cross fade - for convenience. There are esentially the same as the X transitions, though Fade OUT there doesn't offer a duration box. No matter how they are accessed, Video effects and Transitions are two different things. Video effects are applied to a clip. Transitions are made between clips.
  4. Hard to predict as this will vary with export resolution and quality. With large source files and a lengthy project you may want to consider editing it in several small parts, to ensure that it will export without freezes and missing content which can result if the program runs out of memory. Completed work, after export, is just a file. The original edits won't be available. But then those files can be reimported into VP for final export. Regularly back up your work with Save Project AS, giving it a unique name or #, so as to not overwrite earlier saves. If Save Project (no AS) is used, it will overwrite. Then you will be protected.
  5. Yes, RESOLVE works. But if the file names and formats are identical the substitution process won't require that step. VP offers choices to export with the same A/R but at a lower resolution. For example 3840 x 2160 (4K) is 16:9. So is 854 x 480. And custom resolutions can be specified. Reducing frame rate and quality or changing compressors will have an effect. Experiment to see what works best for you.
  6. VPJ files are normally well under 100KB. They are used to tell the program where source files and located and how to process effects and transitions. They are not playable. Exported files - Mp4, MOV, AVI, etc. - can be quite large, depending upon project length and resolution.
  7. Use the same format (Mp4, MOV, etc.) as the original or VP likely won't recognize the substitution. Videopad itself can be used for conversions. For example, a 4K file was exported at 854 x 480. That reduced its size from 188 MB to 13MB. Resolution should be most effective in reducing the size of the file, leaving it usable for editing while easier for VP to handle.
  8. 1. You might overlay a black clip that starts a second or two ahead of the desired snow video. Apply a green screen effect, using black, and the snow effect. That will start the snow in black but be full snow in the screen when it hits the clip. If necessary that clip can be exported, reimported, trimmed to get rid of the black, then inserted into the project. 2. Adding a blank, black overlay clip, then rotating and scaling it up to fill the screen and applying a green screen can achieve this...to a point. The example here shows how snow was added across two clips. Double-click it to see more detail. 3. Same as #2, with scaling and rotation optional. The snow can be speeded up by via a right-click on its track to CHANGE CLIP SPEED. Record_2020_06_14_22_08_11_616.mp4
  9. Would this actually be version 8.45? Export will output all tracks in the sequence. Did you scale down the size of the overlay videos so lower tracks would be seen in the background (picture-in-picture) ? The best way to resolve this is to share. It's easy, takes little time and can be private. Just follow the PORTABLE project instructions here, so we can see what you see. Don't upload the export.
  10. You can add the .250 or .500 transition to all clips in one action by choosing APPLY TO ALL in the transition menu drop-down - at the bottom of the box. There were several errors in the project, including what Nat mentions. Superfluous very short clips appeared at cut points making transitions impossible. Switching to Storyboard mode can spot these snippets which can be deleted.
  11. There are no transitions programmed in your project and but one effect - a transparency for the clip that's second to the last. What you appear to be seeing is the timeline being moved to make room for the new split. Expand the timeline and horizontally scroll it to see earlier clips. Use the slider, bottom-right... If you do add transitions between clips, such as Fade Thru Black, program their length as 0.250 or perhaps 0.500 to create a short dip between the clips.
  12. What version of Videopad is being used? Image on track 1; text on track 2. No need to fiddle with transparency; text should appear as shown in the "this is a text overlay" pic above. Be sure that the text color contrasts with the background or it may not been seen.
  13. When you clicked the X, the Windows file manager (Windows Explorer) should have appeared requesting where to save. Normally, the default is the folder that contains the source files. So the VPJ is likely not in the c:\user\documents\Videopad Projects folder, unless you directed that it be saved there. But it should have been created. And opening that file should reload the project, provided that its files haven't been deleted. If they have been moved, it will prompt to Resolve. Here, a Windows search from Explorer for .VPJ brings up a host of those files.
  14. It's unclear just what's going on there. Upload the PORTABLE project, just as you have it on the timeline prior to the last-clip split. See the instructions in the link above. Be sure to SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS (not Save Project), and upload that folder. Get a shareable link and post it here. Someone will check it out.
  15. Takes practice. Remember that higher tracks override lower tracks. New material on track 2 will cover what's on track 1.

First thing, go to OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files. If no help, open Windows Control Panel | Programs and Features and uninstall Videopad. Be sure that you Save Project AS first, giving it a unique name and #, so as to not overwrite earlier saves. Save Project (no AS) will overwrite. Install the latest. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. Confirm that the PC video driver and Direct-X are up to date. 17. First thing: Save Project AS, giving it a unique name or #, so as to not overwrite earlier saves. If Save Project is used, it will overwrite. You tried to export as an AVI video file? You can also try an UNinstall via Control Panel | Programs and Features. It may give the option to keep using the 'lite' version. If these measures fail, install the version linked above and try again. Worse case scenario, we will export the project for you. Follow the instructions in the link for uploading and sharing your PORTABLE project folder.
  18. Under OPTIONS | DISK tab, Clear Unused Cache Files, then load your project. Be sure that the video driver and Direct-X are up-to-date... After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. What is the resolution of the bulk of the clips and how long is the project? The best way to track this down is to see it just as you do. Not the export, but the PORTABLE project. Please share it as instructed in the link. It's easy, quick and can be private. Here's how... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/ If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM). Click the envelope above. 20. Perhaps VP crops that way because the data connected with the clip is corrupted, and it's interpreted as 9:16? Applying LETTERBOX in the Aspect Ratio Transforms section also sets it right. Loaded the source into another editor which also read it as 9:16, so it's not exclusively a VP issue.
  21. To upload the file follow the instructions in the above link: upload the file to a free server, get a shareable link from that server (make it public) and paste that link here.
  22. NCH is always open to suggestions. Be specific. Click the chevron at the top-right of the VP window and sent feedback.
  23. There are a number of ways to fade IN and OUT. The f is used only for a fade IN and will be available only on the first clip in the track (or on a clip after a gap). The X shown above is for transitions between clips and from a final clip for a fade or cross fade. The transitions box that opens when the X is clicked offers many options. An alternative is to open EFFECTS and scroll to the FADE section there... Yes, it can take a different function to fade IN and OUT on a single clip, dependent upon what fade routine is used and the nature of the clip. Not certain that your vanishing effects are due to the version. But if something doesn't go right immediately press <ctrl-Z> or EDIT menu | UNDO to go back, step-by-step. Also back up the project routinely using Save Project AS, giving it a unique name or #, so as not to overwrite earlier saves. Save Project will overwrite. That way, you're protected.
  24. Be sure to Save Project AS routinely and give it a unique name or #, so as to not overwrite prior saves. Then you're protected. Don't use Save Project; that will overwrite. Videopad creates back ups of the VPJ file that controls the project. Look in the folder where the source files reside. Try a search of drive C:\. The file names will end with _backup.vpj.
  25. Not seeing that behavior, using the latest version, which you may want to test. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. Perhaps you can record a short screen-capture video of this occurring and post a link to it here. Here's how... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/
