When I hit the F10 key, the dictation is at a wonderful speed, but any time I hit play on the foot pedal it's at lightning super warp speed.
What value is the "Speed (x%)" slider in the bottom-right corner of the main window set to?
In Options -> Controller -> "Command map / test...", what command is mapped to the pedal you're pressing?
Where the heck is Settings?
Settings became Options a few versions ago, and not all of the documentation has been updated to reflect the change yet.

When I had a voice file and opened it with ES, it defaulted to Windows Media Player, and of course I was not able to use my foot pedal, etc. to hear the voice file.
What do you mean by "opened it with ES"? Are you trying to double-click on the file in Windows Explorer or on your desktop? If so, you can change the program associated with that file extension from Media Player to Scribe by following the instructions linked to in this old post.

The dropdown for the pedal type says only the words "VEC Pedals USB" however that's the setting for the Infinity pedals. No where does the program hint that "VEC" is for "Infinity".
This shouldn't be a problem now, with the improvements that have been made to foot pedal support in Express Scribe v4.36.

Hello. I have ES 4.35 and it displays the time as 1:35:15.2 (1hr, 35 mins, 15 secs), whereas before it used to display just the minutes as a whole number, 95.15. I like the whole minutes display so I can see when I'm coming to the end of a dictation without having to do calculations in my head (and often getting it wrong, maths was never my strong point). Can I change it to just show minutes and not hours and minutes?
Time display format options were introduced in v4.36.

Say I have a web address, like http://www.talkfile.com/typeme.mp3, how do I open that web address (URL) in Express Scribe?
Express Scribe can't load directly from a URL. You'll need to download the file first.

On this website it says that settings are stored in: c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\nch\scribe\settings.ini.
Sorry, but that information is out of date.
Is it located somewhere else, or perhaps settings are stored in the registry?Yes, application-wide settings are stored in the registry.
We are all using the latest verions (4.35).It's unrelated to what you're asking, but v4.36 is now available.

Then I'd like to have some type of software take the audio file and turn it into a printable document. Will this software do that?
Express Scribe for Windows can integrate with some speech-to-text software. Unfortunately, Express Scribe for OS X can't do the same.

When I try to import an audio file to her Express Scribe, a message pops up saying that her recording hard drive is full and that I need to clear some space. What is the recording hard drive? Her own hard drive is very far from full.
In Options -> "Disk Usage", what values are set for "Warn me when my hard drive space is below (MB)" and "Data Folder"?
-
Express Scribe, when it launches, as I understand it, is supposed to take over the F-keys on a global scale yet Word won't release it's grasp of certain keys; F11 and F12 in particular.
In Scribe, open the Options dialog and click the Control tab. Under "System Wide Hot Key Assignment", you can either delete the conflicting mapping or re-map it to another key combination.

thank you for the answer, but i found something different in the tutorial:
http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/tutorial/help.html
Feature 3 shows me that i can add other file formats.
Sorry, that tutorial is out of date - that feature has been deprecated. However, it wouldn't have helped with automatic incoming. All it did was associate file types with Express Scribe so that when you double-clicked on them in Windows Explorer, they would open in Scribe. See the release notes for v4.35 for details of how to change file associations in Windows.
is there any other solution?Your best bet is to use Help -> "Send Improvement Suggestion or Feedback" to formally request the ability to select more file types for automatic incoming. The more people request the change, the more likely it will be implemented.
-
on the bottom right is a list of only four or five file types like:
dct
wav
mp3
aif
which can be checked. There is no option to check -- or add -- any other file type
So... How do I load or sync files into Express Scribe???
You can load other file types manually by using File -> "Load Dictation File(s)", or dragging and dropping into the Scribe dictation list. Automatic incoming does not work for file types other than those listed above.
-
I can load files into Express Scribe from a CD, but apparently not from my hard drive. Is that a fact of the program?
No, you should be able to load from your hard disk, removable media, network shares - anything that Windows can use.
-
I have a CD that has files on it I need to trascribe and every time I click on one of those files to dictate it, it pulls up in Windows Media. Before it always popped up in Express Scribe and I had no problems with it.
You need to change the default program that's used to open that file extension.
Instructions for Windows XP are here.
Instructions for Windows Vista are here.

I know the file format can be changed on the device to a different format on the DSS Player Pro side i.e. the dss format, but will the Express Dictate support that format? Meaning will it download it from the device and email it?
Unfortunately, DSS format is not supported in the OS X version of Express Dictate.
-
I need to know if the Mac version is compatible with the Olympus DS-5000 and has the 2 features of (1) automatically download the file from the recorder
According to Olympus' website, the DS-5000 records in DSS Pro / DS2 format, which Express Dictate does not support, on Windows or OS X.
and (2) automatically emails it to a user based on configuration settings.Dictate has this feature.

Hello, i must just write this text in notepad and save as pedaldrv.dll in system32 ?
A DLL is a binary file generated by a compiler from source code written in a programming language (such as C). You really need to be a computer programmer to attempt this.

I have a micro cassette recorder connected to my computer and have chosen "audio cable method". I think I have everything connected correctly. It transfers the audio to Express Scribe, but when I play it back, it plays very very very draggy and slow.
If your recorder is playing back at 100% normal speed then make sure you disable the "Transfer at high speed" option in Scribe's Dock dialog.

I tried to download the transcription test on ExpressScribe but it says it won't accept .php format.
PHP is a web page extension. If you right-clicked on the link in your browser to save it, try left-clicking to follow it instead.

I am trying to start a new transcription job using Express Scribe and when I download the file it shows in express scribe but the duration say 0:00 and there is nothing there. I tried opening it with media player and that doesn't work either.
Probably a codec problem, but you'll have to be more specific about what type of file you're trying to load, etc.
Is there a technical support phone number to call? There is a link for contacting technical support staff at the bottom of the Express Scribe Technical Support page.

Our Delegate database is close to 1gb in size. Over the past few months we have deleted a lot of data via the delegate web interface. How do I reclaim the space on the drive? I have thought about creating a new db and transferring the data over via options menu. Alternative is running sqlite3 and running a sql "vacuum" command. What is the recommended way to reclaim the lost space?
Delegate doesn't have a way to compress the active database (use the "Send Improvement Suggestion or Feedback" menu item to put an official request in if you'd like to see that), so the "Copy data to new database" button is probably your best bet, if you have the space.
The SQLite method might work, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Anyone know if there are switches to silently accept the license and install this software? I need to package it to be installed on our training room PC's.
None that I know of, sorry.
-
is there any way to add the total play time in the queue at any given time?
Select all the rows in the dictation list and click File -> "Dictation information" and you'll see a "Total duration" field.
You need Express Scribe v4.32 or later for this feature.

Can someone please walk me through setting up this pedal?
There are step-by-step guides to setting up various kinds of pedals here.
