I am using windowsXP and I receive my dictations through dial dictate and I have set-up express scribe to save dictations in c:\my documents\dictation. If I click load I can find them in the target file but they will not load automatically.
Configuring where Express Scribe saves in-progress dictations (Options -> "Disk Usage" -> "Data Folder") is different from configuring where it automatically loads dictations from (Options -> Incoming -> Add). Note that these two settings should definitely not point to the same directory.
Also how can I set up different customers so I will know whose dictation is whose?
You'll need to make sure that each speaker is using a separate account to access Dial Dictate, and that the recordings are sent in DCT file format. Then Scribe will be able to populate the Speaker column from the information in the DCT file.

I currently have an issue where MSV files are being imported into Express Scribe. When doing so, the time on the dictation gets cut in half and the playback is at double speed.
What device was used to record these files?
Were they recorded in some kind of long play mode?
Do they play correctly in Windows Media Player?
I know that this problem is not with the sound file as it happens on all sound files imported and other systems are able to import it without any problems.
If by "other systems", you mean Express Scribe on other PC's, then maybe you need to update your version of the Sony plugin?

I just bought the software a couple of weeks ago - wouldn't the Web Dictate software that I purchased have the been the most recent software out?
Web Dictate v2.01 was released on October 2nd.
You can find the version number on the status bar of the main window, in Help -> About, in the header of the "Web Control Panel", and several other places.
Now I have to purchase an upgrade for software I purchased that said it integrates directly with Express Delegate - which is why I purchased it??
As with all NCH software, upgrades are free for three months from the day you purchased your licence.

One cannot type with non-Latin script. A transcription program should be designed for usability in various languages. What would it take to make ES international in design?
If enough people requested it (Help -> "Send Improvement Suggestion or Feedback"), you might be able to convince the developers to implement it.
-
That's the problem - it doesn't give me that option - It gives me email; LAN or Direct Internet Connection -
As mentioned above, you need Web Dictate v2.01 or later for Express Delegate support.
-
Can you tell me how to integrate Delegate and Web Dictate?
Launch Web Dictate's "Web Control Panel", click on the Recipients tab, add or modify a recipient, then under "Send Method" select "Express Delegate" and configure the server and login details.

Foot pedal is detected in the "Foot Pedal Setup" stage, but when I tried to finish the setup by clicking "OK" I am getting an error message. "Pedable can no longer detect your pedal, it may be unplugged. Your settings have been saved. When the device is plugged back in, you need to recalibrate the pedal from the options menu again before using it." I am using a 9-pin foot pedal.
I have reproduced the problem here using Pedable v1.01 on Windows XP with a VEC Infinity IN-DB9. Unfortunately this appears to be a bug, and I don't know of a work-around.
Please report it using the Help -> "Send Bug Report" menu item.

Does Web Dictate integrate with both Express Dictate and Delegate?
Express Delegate support was added to Web Dictate in v2.01.
Express Dictate and Web Dictate do similar jobs, so there's no integration between them.
Also, can Sony recorded dictations be uploaded to web dictate software? The Sony recorded dictations are in .msv format.
Have you installed "Sony Player Plug-in for Windows Media Player" as described at http://www.nch.com.a...pport.html#SONY? The plug-in must be installed on the machine acting as the Web Dictate server.

I am told that the Express Dictate integrates with the Express Delegate program. Can someone please tell me how to do this?
In Express Delegate, follow the instructions to create an account for each of the speakers and typists.
Then, in Express Dictate, select Options -> Sending and create or modify a recipient. In the "Send to Typist Recipient Properties" dialog that's shown, under the Recipient tab, change the "Send Method" to "Expess Delegate", and configure the server and logon details.

My issue is that I want to set the auto backstep feature to rewind a bit when I take my foot of the foot pedal.
That's under Options -> Playback -> "Auto backstep on stop".

I just purchased a netbook to use for work
What screen resolution does it have?
Is there any way to get those control buttons not to be in the window so I can narrow it further?
You can hide the main tool-bar, the small tool-bar, or the notes using the items in the View menu. The playback control buttons can't be hidden.

Question one: can Database files be locked?... and if so, how does on unlock it. If no then that leads me to the second question: How do I delete a file in the database when it says access denied?
Does this question relate to Classic FTP or Fling?

Is it legal to install Express Scribe 4.37 in a corporate environments ? Are there any restrictions on use ?
Private and corporate usage are the same - there aren't any extra restrictions. You can view the full licence terms when you run the installer, or in Help -> "Help Contents..." -> "Software License Terms".
If so, is it possible to download a standalone version that isnt installed on demand e.g. an MSI installation ?
There isn't an MSI installer, unfortunately.

Changes in Express Scribe v 4.37 for Windows:
- Fixed: VEC Infinity IN-USB-1 foot pedal auto-detection now works for 0x0110 revision hardware.
- Fixed: Typographical error in the Attachments dialog.
- Fixed: Attachments dialog "Save As" and Open buttons are now disabled when more than one attachment is selected.
- Changed: File types for incoming sources are no longer limited to DCT, WAV, MP3, AIF.
-
I upgraded to v4.36 today and since doing so, it will not detect my foot pedal.
Express Scribe v4.37, which is currently in beta testing, has a fix for auto-detection of a particular hardware revision of the VEC Infinity IN-USB-1 foot pedals.

I downloaded the mp3 files from the contractor, sampled the audio to ensure it downloaded properly, and selected the LOAD option on the program.
When I pulled up the file folder that the mp3s are in, there aren't any files listed. In fact, the only thing listed are more file folders - and even those appear empty.
What version of Express Scribe are you using?
What version of Windows?
When you say the Load option, do you mean File -> "Load Dictation File(s)..."?

And what happens after this 14-days period?
Express dictate stops working or stop recording or some functions will be disabled?
You will still be able to run the application and listen to recordings, etc., but some functionality (eg. sending dictations) will be disabled.

The hardware ID is HID\VID_05F3&PID_00FF&REV_0110 and I have version 4.36 of Express Scribe
Thank you. A fix has gone into testing.

I also wanted to add I am too concerned about doing readbacks, I was under the impression this software would have "hot keys" and would be easy to differentiate speakers, witness, judge, etc., I see you can add bookmarks/ notes and timestamps but not sure how that will work for me either.
MSRS is primarily a recording application. For playback and / or transcription, Express Scribe has hot-key / foot pedal control, jumping to bookmarks, muting channels, etc.
-
Can't find typing pad
Is View -> "Show Notes Window" enabled?
Can't get hot keys to work
Is Options -> Hot-Keys -> "Enable system-wide hot-keys" enabled, and are there key assignments in the list?

when I open the folder for the logs, I have nothing.
I think you've found a bug. Please report it using Help -> "Send Bug Report".
There is no notation on the black margin words (white words on black background at the left side of the screen) that a log was created like there is for the backup notation.
The contents of the log file should be the same as the contents of the log window.
When I am in record mode, if I keep recording and pull up the play screen, the duration column shows 73:.:..
It seems the recording duration is being read incorrectly while the recording is in progress. Please report this as a bug too.
When the system backs up, it only saves one file. Is there a way to automatically back up both tracks?
We don't seem to be able to hear both tracks in Express Scribe. What do we need to do to hear both tracks in Express Scribe?
MSRS stores the recordings as one WAV file per channel. To create a multi-channel DCT for Express Scribe: in Options -> Files, make sure you have selected DCT (Full multi-channel), then in Options -> Send, configure how you want to get the recording from MSRS to Scribe. (Probably "File Copy" if MSRS and Scribe are on the same PC or LAN.) When you finish recording, the DCT file will now be automatically sent to that location.

I've been trying to research and have been so far been unable to find any information on when and if this product requires purchase after a period of time.
Express Dictate has a 14 day full feature trial period, after which you will need to purchase a licence here.
-
I changed the log file to a local file, as I did with the recordings and the backup. I have files in the recordings and backup files, but no logs???>
I'm not sure what you mean here, as the log folder is already set to a local folder by default.
I have tried to keep recording and bring up the play screen and find the timing on the recording, but the recording time is so long (73 hours or something) that when I go to move the scroll bar at the bottom, any movement makes the recording go back and forth in hours, not seconds.
Did you really get a 73 hour recording? In Options -> Files there is a "Break recording into files of length" option, which defaults to 20 minutes, I think.
Is the DCT setting the only one that will allow me to hear both lines of recording and allow me to flip back and forth between them while transcribing?
MP3 and WAV hold one or two channels, DCT holds up to 32. Using Express Scribe you can change the volume or mute any of those channels independently.

I'd like to use my Infinity IN-USB-1 pedal in a 64-bit Windows environment, but it's not detected using the vecusb.exe driver available on nch.com.au.
Which version of Express Scribe are you using? Since v4.36, vecusb.exe is no longer used.
Could you check the hardware revision of your foot pedal?
- Connect the foot pedal to the computer.
- Start Windows' "Device Manager".
- In XP: Right click on "My Computer", select Properties, select Hardware, select "Device Manager".
- In Vista: Right click on "Computer", select Properties, select "Device Manager, if you get a "User Access Control" prompt, click Continue.
[*]Look under "Human Interface Devices". For each "HID-compliant device" that you find:
- Right-click on the device and select Properties, select Details, select "Hardware Ids" from the Property list.
- The first value for the Infinity device is HID\VID_05F3&PID_00FF&REV_xxxx - please post that full value here.
Thanks!

What version of Windows Media Player do you have? What version of DirectX? Do the PC's that do work have different versions?
