  1. This oddity has been occasionally reported. Launch Videopad with a right-click, then RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, and see if that helps. You can also temporarily update to the latest even without licensing. It will be a full-featured app for the trial period, perhaps allowing completion of your project. Certainly no need to start over. Your VPJ saves are the protection.
  2. Import the mp4 with the ADD FILES button on the Home toolbar. It will land in bin (top-left). If it isn't automatically placed on the timeline, drag it there. Or click the ADD button under the preview window and choose one of the PLACE options. It will then be visible in both Timeline and Storyboard modes and it can be edited just like any other file. Split, effect, transition to adjacent clips, etc.
  3. Storyboard will display the individual track 1 clips only. If you load this mp4 it will be seen as one clip. Of course, timeline view can also be used. The mp4 can be split into clips, then manipulated in the same manner as other clips. As it's split, Storyboard will display the individual clips. For example, here's a fifteen-second mp4... in Storyboard mode And here it is after splits have been made... Thus, new images might be added at split points or split-off sections could be removed.
  4. Your mp4 is a single clip, just like any other. Everything that was exported is embedded, including subs, effects, transitions. You can edit it just like any other clip, but there's no way to recover the individual clips that created it. That can be done only via the VPJ project file.
  5. There are no detailed patch notes, but updates to threads like this are posted here. Stuff breaks.😒 Even after beta testing, a fault can be overlooked - especially if it's intermittent. Confirmed bugs are addressed ASAP. Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. Then you're protected. The back up will load in any recent VP release. A link to an image can be posted. Upload the image to a free server, get a sharable (public) link and paste that in here. As for sharing. Just have the project on the timeline when it's 'perfect' if possible. No matter whether auto-norm is on or off. We'd like to take a look. Follow these steps... Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file. Get link --- Get a public link. If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view" Share --- Click COPY LINK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me. It won't be shared. * Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
  6. What happens if the box is left checked (enabled)? Test this Videopad release. Ignore any virus warnings. Please share a project that does this. Just follow the four steps listed in the instruction above.
  7. Probably not. You can use Windows Explorer to manually click through the file hierarchy. If there's no autosave.vpj under the VideoPad level, then it doesn't exist. If it's there, under Videopad it will look something like this...
  8. Whatever works best for you. But be aware that after clearing the cache it will take longer to reload the project as the cache must be rebuilt. It's wise to use OPTIONS | DISK | Clear Unused cache files prior to beginning a new project. Then there will be no leftover cached files. This does the same thing as deleting the files via Explorer. There should be no need to clear the clips-in-use cache files prior to export.
  9. As mentioned, it's not happening here in v13.21. Install the v13.21, 64-bit release linked above and please take a minute to share the project so we can analyze it. When bugs are confirmed they are quickly addressed. Before you do that, with VP shut down, use Windows Explorer (the file manager) to delete all files in these two folders. Then make the installation, which will restore the files that are necessary... "C:\Users\Howard\<PC name>\Roaming\NCH Software\Components" "C:\Program Files (x86)\NCH Software\Components" (or a similar path without the x86)
  10. No, that should not be happening ... and it doesn't here in v13.21. Install this release. Before starting a project, clear the cache. Clips imported with 'auto-normalize' enabled should be adjusted to optimal level. Clips with it disabled should not be changed. As for Adobe, it's apples and oranges - pegged to different markets. Spendy, by subscription only, steeper learning curve, more than most home users need, Like most complex software, it's also not without quirks. Please share your project so it can be tested. This takes only minutes, isn't difficult and can be private. Just follow these four steps... Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. 11. You can edit the Mp4 just as you would any other clip. Everything, including the subs, will be composited. Depending upon the project, you may be able to mask the existing subtitles and create new ones in that space....
  12. Whenever Videopad is closed, after changes have been made, it will prompt to save. That becomes a VPJ file (not playable). Search for it on the PC. If there was a crash, an autosave may be found in C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\NCH Software\VideoPad\autosave.vpj Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. That's your protection. At least one VPJ file should still be on the PC. Find it and double-click it to reload the project. The exported mp4 can be loaded into Videopad and further edited, but it will be a single file - no individual clips.
  13. One way: split the clip at start and end of the section to be excised. Then press the DEL key, or right-click the newly isolated clip and DELETE, DELETE (ripple) or CUT. If that leaves a gap, right-click in the gap and CLOSE GAP. Untitled.mp4
  14. Despite making concurrent recordings, it's possible that the bitrates of the files are not the same. Share the project. Takes only minutes and can be private. Just follow these steps and it's likely that someone will come up with a solution... Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. 15. Good to know. Drop by again if issues arise.
  16. https://www.nch.com.au/upgrade/ The latest can be test driven as a trial, prior to licensing.
  17. Hints at a limitation with Whatsapp. Check their specs. VP mp4 files are pretty standard. In the export dialog click the Quality/Filesize blue link, if it's available, and confirm that the encoder is H264, not H265. Licensing aside, the latest release can be test driven. For a period of time it should be full-featured. Let's see what you have... Share your project. The process is easy, quick and can be done privately. Just follow these steps... Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. 18. Tests here were made from your earlier project files, so it was definitely working at that time. Corrupted somehow since?
  19. Not seeing either of those behaviors in v13.21. Lance ... the explosion 3 file displays a waveform and plays normally whether loaded independently or tested from within the project. Dangerfreak ... with auto-normalize enabled this file was added, followed by <ctrl-N> | don't save, then the same file was loaded again.... Record_2023_03_20_10_15_30_651.mp4
  20. Update to the current version. For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. The option is there.

  23. Can't say what caused the apparent attachment. Use a more recent release, if possible. An entire audio sequence can be saved as a WAV, and dropped onto a new track. It will show up under the Audio tab, and in the Music folder on the PC. Then video, whether audio is linked or not, can be removed with no effect on the new track. Click the SEQUENCES tab above the bin. Right-click on the sequence. Then choose... If the SEQUENCES tab isn't visible, add a new, blank sequence by clicking the + on the existing sequence tab that's above the timeline thumbnails.
  24. A timing comparison will be run if you share the project. Is it 'stalling' while loading or when exporting? What is the format of the bulk of the content? In version 13.21, under OPTIONS | MEDIA, the normalize external checkmark, if removed manually, remains unchecked ... and the feature is disabled. Is this the item you're referring to?
