  1. See the HELP file. Click the ? mark at the top right of the screen, then click on PROJECTS|CONCEPTS. That info and the links it contains will guide you. The .vpj project file ... and the project files that it references must all be saved and accessible on the other PC.
  2. Absolutely. I should have said that there's no place to specify a default save directory. Merci.
  3. Just to be clear, .VPJ files seem to prefer being saved to the user|VIDEO directory (folder). The files used in those projects are in the large cache: USER|APP DATA|LOCAL|TEMP|VIDEOPADCACHE. I have observed that requests to open a project VP usually look in the VIDEO directory, but at times it's been user|DOCUMENTS|MY DOCUMENTS|VP PROJECTS instead, where logically one would think projects should be stored. There appears to be no option to specify the save directory (folder).
  4. I don't see anything wrong with your layout, Nat. See http://hevanet.com/hb/test.avi

You don't state your system's specs, which may help folks make recommendations . Consider installing the latest video driver from the chip manufacturer's WEB site. They are normally backwards compatible, but you can roll-back if problems arise. http://nvidia.com/drivers http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
  6. GIFS won't play in VP (or some other editors). But that doesn't mean that all is lost. They must be deconstructed first. Here's an alternative to Nat's suggested method... Download the world's most popular FREEware image manipulator, Irfanview, from http://irfanview.com. Double-click the small file to quickly install. (UNcheck any offers for toolbars and the like.) Load the GIF. Under the Irfanview OPTIONS menu click on EXTRACT ALL FRAMES, and save to a folder of your choice. Open VP and load all the frames (clips) to the timeline. Change duration of each clip to about 10 frames. There's your reconstructed GIF in VP. If you want to repeat the action, first produce it to a file. Then load that file onto the timeline as many times as you wish. Or COPY|PASTE on the timeline.

When two clips have no video to spare - at the end of the FROM clip and the beginning of the TO clip - a crossfade freeze seems inevitable; there's no video from either side to cover the full fade duration. Perhaps what you witnessed in other programs was an overlap, not a crossfade, which VP doesn't offer. I just now tested a 3.0 crossfade in PowerDirector 11. It performed in exactly the same manner as VP. At the head of the diss the TO video was frozen. At the mid-point, the TO video UNfroze and the FROM video froze for the remainder of the transition. I also tested this when both clips had been trimmed, which meant that there was video not used at the end of the FROM clip and the beginning of the TO clip. Same result. The transition did not incorporate trimmed video. Lightworks is a high-end professional tool, a different animal. Don't know how it handles transitions, but I'll wager that it overcomes this behavior.

Pretty much, in the latest edition. Don't see much "jumping" now. However, it's the nature of crossfades to "freeze." Happens in other editing programs as well. You probably won't notice when fades are of of short duration.
  9. It may help to install the latest video driver from the chip manufacturer's WEB site. Shouldn't hurt, as these drivers are backward compatible unless noted otherwise. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx http://nvidia.com/drivers
  10. VP 3.04 has enhanced features and a different layout. As I recall 2.41 does not run in Windows 8... http://videopad-video-editor.soft32.com/free-download/
  11. Video editing is resource intensive. Please list your PC's specs. At least a dual-core processor (quad-core preferred), mid/higher-end video card, 8G RAM, and 30G-100G unused on the C:/ drive is advised. That's not to say that non-linear editors won't run with lesser resources, but this invites the frustration that you are experiencing. From where did you download 3.04? The original incarnation had serious slowdown problems. A later version, which they should have given a different #, was much improved.
  12. Visit the Videopad YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/nchsoftware. Also see this PDF document: http://tinyurl.com/qxvwuh8 For an overview of non-linear editing (as with Videopad) see http://entertainment...ng-machine1.htm (AVID is a brand name of a professional editing application) There are many books that explain the concept. Here are two... http://www.amazon.co...p/dp/024080225X http://www.amazon.co...c/dp/0240802829
  13. Here, using Windows 7, slowing a clip adds a black area ahead of the slow-mo portion. If one splits the clip (intending to excise the black) then preview video is all black. Hints that this is a bug.
  14. Video editing is resource intensive. Thus it's not inconceivable that your PC is being over-taxed during the render, causing the lag. List your PC's specs, and someone may speculate further.
  15. Here, preview of a 1080p Mp4 clip was fairly low res. But when exported to 1080p/60f as an AVI it looked about the same as the original. Same for 30f/sec. Have you viewed the export-to-file result of your clip?
  16. What version of VP? Are you writing to the drive or burning to a DVD disc? Similar messages have been reported, yet at times the burn succeeded. An alternative is to write to disc then use other software to burn the file to DVD.
  17. You could, of course, convert them after the fact. http://irfanview.com FREE, full featured photo tool.

    Creating Menus

This, from the NCH FAQ... "Can I create a menu on the video DVD? VideoPad does not yet support Menu creation on its DVDs. However, Express Burn disc burning software does support menu creation, and even includes templates to help you design the menu that's best for your movie."
  19. Appears to be so. In 3.04 if you want to use timeline mode first split, then select BOTH audio and video tracks. Left-click within those tracks and drag them W-A-Y-Y to the right. Now insert your blank clip at the cursor (the end of the earlier clip). Again select both tracks that were dragged and drag them left to line up with the end of the blank clip.
  20. It appears that the only way to achieve an accurate video AND audio blank clip insert while in timeline mode is to first split the clip, add the blank at the split, and then drag the audio clip to the right to match the video out point. Easier in storyboard mode.
  21. Place the scrubber (the red marker line) at the spot you want the insert to be. Left-click the ADD BLANK CLIP button, then click ADD. The clip appears in the preview window. Click the green arrow below the preview window. Choose "place on sequence at cursor." Click ADD.
  22. Doesn't seem so. When EDIT|COPY/PASTE is attempted between projects here (open new, then PASTE) the program crashes (Win 7) with an "abnormal exception." You can, however, use the CLIP menu to insert clips from another project, but that doesn't appear to be what you desire.
  23. It's best to start a new, descriptive topic - to get the most attention. Please describe the procedure used to export the project and precisely what happens when it fails. There have been reports of successful DVD burns, despite error warnings. I have seen that on a Windows 8 platform. Producing to a file on the hard disk, then burning with another program is an alternative.
  24. See my earlier post to this thread. There's a link to 2.41.
