  1. Hi If everything IS working as it should, you can left click the soundtrack for the clip in question to select it and it will appear in the left hand preview pane. Across the centre you should see a blue line. This line can be grabbed with the cursor and pulled down or lifted to different heights at any point along its length and when released will leave a small square marker. You can do this at multiple ponts along the length of the clip creating fade ins and outs. If you start by grabbing the left hand end of the line and pulling it down to the very bottom of the preview window, the volume of the clip will be reduced to virtually nothing although you will be able to hear it faintly. To mute the clip entirely, select it and then click the small loudspeaker button situated on the far left of the audio track in question. Right clicking the track gives a menu with further options. These controls should be sufficient for most commonly used tasks in editing. VP provided several sound effects that can be applied to the audio track of a clip and these are selected by either clicking the "Effects" button on the toolbar which will open the Audio Effects window directly and from which you have to click the Add Effect button, or you can also click the small arrow to the right of the toolbar button and selection "Audio Effects" from the bottom of the list that appears followed by the effect that you require. This opens an effects window containing controls for the effect and a preview of the soundtrack similar to the main one described above. If none of this happens then obviously there is a fault with the version you have. If you want to go back to an earlier version of VP then at least Save your project before you do so. Not sure now if 2.41 is available from the usual download sites as NCH update these with the later versions as they come on stream (although they don't change the images associated with these ) Provided you save the .exe (vpsetup.exe) file for any downloads you do then you can easily switch back to your original version if things don't work out. However...an earlier version of VP like 2.41 will not load your project from version 3.xxx as the files are saved in a different form. Nat
  2. Hi You don't say what version of VP you are using but the overlay track may not be immediately visible. On opening version 3.12 (all 3.xxx versions) you see at the start just Video Track 1 with Audio Track 1 below it. Although not labelled at this point, above Video Track 1 is a grey zone which is the Overlay track zone. Into this you can place (drag and drop if you wish) numerous clips each one becoming a further Video track in its own right with another Overlay track above it. When you do this the track will be labelled Video track 2, Video Track 3 etc. All these are overlay tracks. The correspoding soundtracks will be inserted below Audio Track 1 and will become Audio Track 2, Audio Track 3 etc. Obviously there is limited space in the window to show full height thumbnails if there are several tracks so you can either scroll them up/down with the scroll bar at the extreme right or collapse the tracks with the right hand control of the three buttons at the extreme left of the track in question. This makes them narrower since the thumbnails are supressed. Any clip placed on an overlay track will take precedence over any clips on the lower tracks that are directly below it. In a way it hides everything underneath. You have to think as if you are viewing all the clips from above. However you have control over the overlay clip's size, position as well as its' opacity, and each track will be individually affected by any video effects you want to add. In version 2.41 the overlay track is labelled as such from the start and is found underneath the single Video Track. Nat
  3. Hi You can download useful virtual dub filters from here... http://www.infogniti...tualDubFilters/ or http://www.virtualdu...ub_filters.html It doesn't matter where you download them to but if you intend to have several then it might be a good idea to set up named folder and put it in the NCH folder. The file you down load will be a .vdf file. To use it first open VP. (V3.12 in this case) Click the "Options" button followed by the "Effect Plugins" tab. This opens a window listing any effects plugins you may already have. Left click the "Load File(s)" button and navigate to the folder where you have downloaded your .vdf file. Select and open this. This action will add the effect to the displayed list. Now close the "Options" window. To use the filter Add a clip to the sequence line and then select it. Left click the "Effects" button ICON on the toolbar. (NB. Don't click the down arrow to the right of this, or the tab at the top of the window as the Plugin Effects will not list) Clicking the Icon will open the "Video Effects" window which will be empty if there are no current effects associated with the clip in question a preview of which will appear on the right. Now left click the "Add Effect" tab at the top left of this window. The list that appears WILL now show your Plugin effects. Select the plugin required. Provided the filter is compatible with VP and no conditions apply to its use this normally opens a setup window where values can be entered. The filter effect can be monitored in the preview. Nat
  4. .........We'll never know what the question was now...... ..... .
  5. Hi "When I select text scroll, it disappear it self. If you know how to scroll text could you explain it please. Thanks " This is something that occurs at my end also, however when things do work correctly the following steps are done... Put your clip or image onto the main video track. Wait until all the thumbnails etc are displayed. Left click the "Add Text" button on the toolbar. This will open the "Add New Text Clip" window. Now left click the white box to obtain a cursor and enter your text. If you wish, you can also fill in the top smaller box with the name of your particular text that you are adding. (Remember you are actually adding an "image" and a name can be useful.) When finished click the "Add" button. VP will generate an image and place it in the media list under the Image tab and also display it in the left hand preview pane Note that depending on how long your text lines are the preview might not show all the line. Now drag and drop your text image to the next free video track (e.g. track 2) Note that the display time for this image will depend on the default value set in "Options" so if it is too short then simply grab the ends of the "image" box...the cursor will change to a double headed arrow....and drag the box out to the length required. Now drag the box to the position required with respect to the main clip and drop it. The yellow rectangle can be used as a guide. If not already done so, right click the text image (it will highlight blue) so it previews in the left hand preview pane pane against a chequered background. Beneath this pane is the control panel. There is a three line box in which you can edit the text if needed (although this has formatting bugs which NCH say are being addressed) Click the large "T" button to open a further edit window. Here you can alter the text size so it fits the screen, font, style, alignment and colour etc. The changes will be visible after a slight pause. If the main track red cursor line is placed over the centre of the text box on track 2, the changes should also be seen in the right hand preview pane against the video on track 1. Below these control boxes is the Scrolling control window with a drop down arrow that gives acces to a list of scrolling actions. Click the one you require and if all you want is now complete and the preview position etc looks OK click the "Apply" button. Depending on which effect you choose the left preview pane may not show your text but the preview thumbnails below it should. If there are no thumbnails visible then pull the bottom of the pane down (The five dots) If you have chosen a scroll option other than "None" and there is NO TEXT visible in any of the thumbnails or the preview screens.. IT IS A BUG!..(IMHO)..You can check this by re-selecting "None" from the scroll list when the text generally reappears in the thumbnails and the preview. Note that the right hand preview pane will not show your text in any case unless the main red cursor line is placed over the text box on track 2. However if all is working OK you can now review the scrolling text by playing the clip. Nat
  6. Hi Borate Thats even simpler ! ....and moreover, you don't have to save or reload the project......just reset the in/out markers after you've tested the output. I hadn't noticed these as sequence preview in/out markers are not implemented in version 2.41. which I am nore accustomed to using. (Just wish 3.xxx was faster.) Nat
  7. Hi First load your voice changing software plug in your microphone and check the levels are OK and the effect you want is suitable. Although you can record a wav file directly to your PC and then add it as a sound file to your video, you can also add narration directly to your film using MorphVOX. Set MorphVOX running and plug in your microphone. Open VP and add your project to the timeline. Place the cursor to where you want to narrate from and click the small down arrow next to the "Record" tab on the toolbar. Select "Narrate" from the drop down menu. This will open the "Narration" video pane containing the Red start button, the Stop button and the recording level line. At the top right are boxes showing the sound devices available etc.. The defaults (on my system) are Default sound in ...(the Realtek microphone), and Windows Record Mixer. Click the down arrow for the top window and you now see that Microphone (Screaming Bee Audio) has been added to the choices. Select this option You can check the levels and effect again before you start When you are ready, run the film and narrate. Now when you record, VP will take the output from MorphVOX and produce a sound file that appears in the media window and also placed on the audio track, that has the characteristics you have set with MorphVOX. Note however that the voice change is not immediate as the program has to create the changes you have set up. This means that precise matching of your narration to the film may be slightly out of synch due to the delay. This is not big deal though as if you narrate against the video accurately the sound clip produced can be moved slightly to match the visuals. Nat
  8. Hi First save your project. Now simply choose a section you would like to check on, the length of this is up to you... (you mentioned a second or two) Set the cursor line to the start of this and click the scissor icon under the right hand preview pane (i.e. cut all the tracks on the sequence) Select and remove (delete) everything to the left of the cut Move the cursor along to the end of the section you want to check and cut the sequence again. Select and remove all the tracks to the right of this cut. You now have the piece you want to check on. Export it as a movie to your PC (settings and name are up to you) or create a DVD if you wish. (Use an RW disc ) To get back your original edit position just reload the project you saved at the start. OR ......More simply...... Save your project and close VP Re-open VP and load one of your clips/images......choose one just a few seconds long. Drop it onto the sequence line and then Export it as above to view how you wish. A clip a few seconds long will only take a minute or two to render to your PC (Possibly).... Longer to a DVD-RW. (Possibly never .....depending on what VP version you are using ) To get back your original edit position just reload the project you saved at the start. Nat
  9. Hi "Is it true that VideoPad checks only clip/picture file name to take it into project - it does'nt "remember" file size & content? " The project file (.vpj) saves the basic data regarding the clip. Its location and name, the in/out points, sequence position, transitions and effects, subtitles/text/overlay clips, whether muted or not and data regarding any soundtrack associated with the clip and any bookmarks. The cache file contains a reduced size version of all the clips, images and thumbnails that you see on the editing screen. These are built up as you edit the project or load more clips. The project file (vpj) though contains sufficient data to rebuild the cache file if you happen to delete it. This takes time though and can cause a delay before you can continue to edit your project. If the cache file is still there, obviously the project will load quicker as the images don't need to be created. "Situation that I have not tested too is.. ..if I have destroyed some file in project (by accident for example) and then try to load project into VideoPad - what happend - project content minus destroyed file will be loaded into VP or even none... ?" If you try to load a project (vpj file) for which you have deleted or moved a clip, VP will load the project with the files it has and will , in V 2.41..print the missing file name in Red in the media list and leave a blank frame on the timeline. You can then locate the missing file by clicking its name in the list and browsing to the folder where it has been moved to. If the clip has been deleated then you will need to reload it back to your PC into its original location. If you then reload the project it will be included as normal. In VP 3.xxx the missing files will be listed and you will be prompted to either delete them or resolve the problem in a similar way to above. "...For example I can even change clip/picture content in existing project by change its name same as original in project + then replace old clip/picture with same named new clip/picture having total different content?" Provided the "new" clip has the same name and is in the same location as the "removed" clip, it will appear in the project in place of the "old" clip irrespective of the content. However the in/out positions (your cut edits), subtitles, sound properties, transition effects etc. that applied to the old clip will now be applied to the new clip. This is the idea behind possibly editing with identically named reduced size clips (or use MPEG2 clips) to increase rendering speeds or reduce synch problems and then changing the folder name when finished to point to the original MPEG4 clips which are then used to produce the final render. Nat
  10. Hi I have: MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2 Intel Core Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20Ghz, 2.0GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS.........even slower than yours (= as bicycle ) But...VP version 2.41 runs fine on this (with MPEG2 particularly) AND it has less bugs. Although I have all the current 3.xxx versions available to use and easy to switch to, I still prefer this version. I have mentioned elsewhere the possibility of speeding things up by using a file containing small format copies (512 x 288 mpeg2...same size as the previews) of the full size clips having the same names, and using these to do the editing. The process works much faster this way. Once complete and the project saved, the small files are then swapped for the original files (same names, same folder, same destination) and the project reloaded. for rendering. (No time is saved with this last step unfortunately!) I am a bit surprised that NCH didn't develop 2.41 to include some of the version 3.xxx features (like sequences, clip linking and some of the video effects) without the complications of having multiple video tracks and the continual need to render thumbnails along with the increased data saving in the cache file, all of which takes up time. "Is 3.xx versions faster than 2.xx versions?" In short, (on my system,) ...No Nat
  11. Hi "I think you may be referring to the desktop version rather than the Android version." Yes, I was. Thought they would have the same features. Obviously not Nat
  12. Hi Before you add any of your images, set the default still image duration to 0.0146....you will find it will change to 0.015 but the difference is not important with this duration rate. Now add all your images to the media list. With hundreds this may take some time so you might have to work in batches or create numerous sequences and add these together for the final product. To select all your images.. First, under "Options" - "Other" set the "Add new clip to the following position" to "Ask me" Ensure that all your clips are in numerical order with at least 3-4 digits....e.g. Image0001 Image0002 etc. depending if you are working with hundreds or thousands of images. You can easily do this with the Batch conversion/Renumber option in the free program Irfanview. If you don't do this then you may find that your images are numbered 1, 10, 11......19, 2, 20, 21, 22........29, 3, 30 etc. which will be a pain to correct. The extra zeros will ensure that all the images enter the media list in order. Left click the top image in the list, hold down the shift key and scroll the list down to the last entry and left click this. All the entries between the first and the last to be clicked will be selected and will highlight blue. Drag and drop the highlighted block onto the sequence line.(which is easy) or right click the block and select to add them to the sequence. When propted where to add them, select "End of the timeline" Whichever method you use , the images should now follow each other in the correct order, each with a duration of 0.015 seconds. You can check the duration of each image if you switch into storyboard mode as it will appear below each frame. "Also, what are the differences between the free and paid versions of the Android app?" I have no idea Nat
  13. Hi It may be that the output from big MPEG4 clips render in synch but the fact that sound and vision don't match during editing make things a bit difficult. It's probably a system speed problem but the sound can finish several seconds before the video on even short clips. As I use the evaluation version of VP I can't output to MPEG4, only avi. , wmv or asf The results from MPEG2 conversions look quite OK and the synch problem during editing isn't there. Nat
  14. Hi You can change the image(or video) position by using the "Motion" effect or the "Position" effect ("Position" is easier). Put the image/video clip on the sequence line and select it. Left click the "Effects" tab on the tool bar Left click "Add Effect" Select "Position" Use the "Offset X% and Offset Y% sliders to position the image/video clip to where you want it. If you want the image to scroll or move about from one position to another then click the green crosses to fix the settings for various positions of the red cursor line. Play the clip with the grey > button and if OK click "Close." The effect is transferred to your sequence. Changing image size is similar but select the "Scale" effect from the list. Using the sliders is a bit hit and miss, but as a guide setting 1.0 for each value gives a full size image whilst 0.5 in each box will give a 1/2 size image etc.. Different values in each box will alter the aspect ratio and using the green crosses to fix keyframes for different red line cursor positions will produce a zooming effect or a stretching / squashing effect depending on the values you enter. If you want to move the image about as well as change it in size then you CAN combine the "Position" and "Scale" effects but as they are both available under the "Motion" effect (plus "Rotate" ) select that instead. You will need to experiment a bit to obtain complex motions. Nat
  15. Hi "I think you can't scroll text it self. You need to add it overlay. Then you can scroll it." The text "image" is the object that is scrolled and is automatically added as an overlay. It works (when it does work ) on any of the video tracks. Images and videos can be scrolled using the "Motion" effect. My comment was that the scrolling effect for Text generally failed to work. Nat
  16. Hi See my earlier post.... I personally think this is a bug. With scrolling set to NONE the text appears in all the thumbnails (but obviously doesn't scroll) but with the other settings the text in all the thumbnails and the preview screens disappears (just leaves a chequered rectangle) and it doesn't appear when the clips are played. Nat
  17. HI MPEG4 clips seem to behave like this..at least on my PC....the sound finishes before the video. Convert the video files as Borate suggests. It works for me. Use NCH Prism or the free version of "AnyVideoConverter" to convert yout MPEG4 clips to MPEG2 clips. http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ Keep the same size format. It's eay to use and you can batch the lot to convert one after the other. The new files are placed in a folder labelled MPEG2 and the originals are not affected. I find the MPEG2 files clearer than MPEG4s and the sound stays in synch. Nat
  18. Hi I have commented on this effect earlier for version 3.12 On my system (vista 32) the IMAGE containing my text appears correctly in the media list. Dragged to the overlay track over a video sequence with NONE set as the scrolling option the text appears both in the left hand pane and the right hand pane. (cursor set over the overlay) If the scrolling option is altered the text disappears in ALL the panes and thumbnails including the thumbnail in the media list. Selecting NONE again it returns! Might be my PC but I think not. Nat
  19. Hi With the 3.xx versions of VP you can group selected clips. Left click the clips concerned with the Shift key depressed. (They will turn shad3es of blue) Then right click one of the selected clips. In the menu that follows select "Group selected clips". It should now be possible to cut and delete sections of the video and the soundtrack ,(provided it was "grouped") will stay in synch. Seems to work with small numbers of clips Nat
  20. Hi winning2013 "i am having the same issue on 2 computers. if i slow down the clip, 2 things happen, sound gets garbled and video turns black. XP and win7. where is the fix?" If you slow down a clip (i.e. stretch out its playing time) then VP will also stretch out the soundtrack to match making it run slower and therefore play at lower pitch. You can, however get around this if you create a separate sound file and then use one of the sound manipulation programs that are availbale that will extend a soundtrack without changing the pitch. It generally does this by inserting tiny gaps into the soundtrack that are barely noticeable. The soundtrack is lengthened as a consequence but the pitch is not changed. If carried to extreme however the sound will develop an audible stacatto effect as the gaps become more evident. No idea why the video disappears though. Nat
  21. Hi Version 2.41 (IMHO) generally runs with the least problems but has been superceded by versions 3.10, 3.11 and 3.12 all of which use multiple videotracks which are overlay tracks and the versions have enhanced videoeffects with motion controls. The multiple tracks means more data is saved to the cache file A lot of other features have also been enhanced The main difficulties reported have been with the speed of rendering the output video, registering editing changes and regenerating the thumbnails which seems to prevent any edits being done until the changes have been saved. This decidedly slows things down compared with 2.41. Naturally, with slower computers this can cause problems. You will have to either download a version and give it a try yourself or have a good look at items on the forum. It's difficult to say which version of these three is the most consistent as people have reported gliches with all three. Nat
  22. Hi If you are viewing your project in preview mode in this version, then you may well see a "black flash" where you have cut your clip and removed a section. However it won't (or shouldn't) be visible in the rendered output video. It's a thing that has been commented on elsewhere. Nat
  23. Hi 2blackbar wrote.."If in videopad 3.12 you can make file with other aspect ratio than 16:9 or 4:3 then youre magician." Select clip Click Effects tab Click Add Effect tab and select Crop You will see that the "Force Aspect Ratio" default is set to "None" You can now drag any corner or side of the orange rectangle to produce any aspect ratio. You CAN calculate the X2 and Y2 values to give you any AR and enter them into the boxes but you will need to remember that 100% on each axis are for a 16 x 9 rectangle and not a square. That is 100% X = 19 and 100%Y = 9 If you want a square (e.g. 9 x 9 ) then Y = 100% and X = (100/19) x 9 = 47.3% So, with the default AR at "None" Set Y2 to 100% and X2 to 47.3% The orange rectangle will now be a square. Use only the CORNER handles to resize it. It can be moved away from any chequerd area by grabbing the centre. You should naw be able to calculate any aspect ratio..like 2:3.5 or 2:35 or 2:20 Nat
  24. Hi Borate How very odd.... V3.10 rechecked with centrally placed text..... No scroll..............Text stationary in middle of screen Top to bottom..... Text scrolls down screen OK Bottom to top.......Text scrolls up screen Left to right...........Text scrolls left to right Right to left...........Text scrolls right to left Works with text fixed bottom centre as well.... Very bizarre  It seems to be working now! Wait....Just loaded 3.12....same clip and same text.... Text image in media list initially OK but went blank when a scroll tried - just a chequered rectangle but when No scroll was selected the text reappeared??? When any of the scrolls was selected, the thumbnails went blank as well and none of the scrolls worked! Just repeated this with a new text. (in red) Image in media list is OK with text visible. >/<>*^%$£"....Just brought VP to the front after writing that last bit....text in media list thumbnail has disappeared...just a chequered rectangle...haven't even tried a scroll yet!! The text is still in the edit window No text visible anywhere apart from here. (Scroll bar is centred on overlay text box. before you ask) Tried a third text..........I now have three BLANK chequered rectangles in the media list ...and blank chequered rectangles for all the thumbnails andapart from the edit box, no text anywhere , even in the preview thumbnails ?? I give up! At least 4.21 works! Nat
  25. Hi 2blackbar As I mentioned earlier in this post, if you crop to a ratio that is NOT 16:9 (the VP screen format) then you will get the black bars when previewed and output. If your image or footage is, for example 4:3 (e.g. 800 x 600) then you will have black bars to either side in your preview and output video. These are the areas that show as chequered grey and white in the thumbnails. Cropping this image or footage to 16:9 makes the image fit the VP screen and there will be NO bars but you will lose the top and bottom of the image. VP will NOT distort the image to fit 16:9. You access the 16:9 crop option by selecting the clip to crop and then clicking the Effects tab on the toolbar. Note: DON'T click the small down arrow as there is a bug going this way to the effects list where the aspect ratios options are missing.. In the Video Effects window click the Add Effect tab and then select Crop from the list. Now you will have the option to select an aspect ratio. If you want FULL FRAME with NO BLACK BORDERS select 16:9 You can then resize and move the orange rectangle to select the best part of your frame. Note: The rectangle must be completely within the image and not include any chequered area or you will still have bars . Perhaps this was where you were going wrong? Nat
