  1. I am working with fefferman on this. The program is still running, so all temp files should still be available, I would think. Just don't know where they are. Any suggestions?

I never tried to find a lost file, so I really don't KNOW where to look.

    I'd probably got look in the wavepad folder where it got installed;

go to start, search programs [ in 7 ] put in wavepad, then right clik on one of the search results to open file location to search around there, for the in limbo file.

    best wishes

    p.s.

    I just thought of this;

    http://download.cnet.com/Pandora-Recovery/3000-2094_4-10694796.html?tag=mncol;1

it may be your saving grace....please post back with results, either good or bad.

  2. Hi YES a download section for bug fixs. I also paid 8.00 for support & have recently gotten a little but I went to add to the posts & their gone.?..lol Why was the advance listen removed from the file change programs the pop up boxs ? I used to be able to make a change , listen to it, change it a little , listen to it , change it a little, then if it was good make the "Global change" to the file now it is a global change just to hear the adjustment? that is rather antiquated to the earlier programs, build 3.27 one could do that.

Also why can we not reduce the program to the task bar when we are recording something? I could with build 3.27 , not exactly sure if that is the right build but it was a year ago or so....why is the program going back in time as far as usability? It's a good program, but management needs to have a little bit more to do with their CO. ok done bi***ing thanks for the space, cool feel better already, program is still getting mousier though. Have a good day Spain.

    I never used that function....

maybe it was causing other issues later on in their upgrades!?

[[ protect the build you love people, cuz it may just disappear , and these guys are making constant changes, some good some not so good because they have to work on a bunch of different OS...]]

  3. Ronnie, You have purchased the software and received the emails containing your invoice, serial numbers and emails. Have you read these emails. In all of these emails you are given the following information in one form or another.

"Technical Support: If you have difficulty using your software, please read the manual (Help->Help Contents) including the Troubleshooting Problems page. 4. This is Maggie again, I just found this on another forum and was able to get the Manual this way....

I am very grateful to VicH who posted following message on another forum:

Mac Users looking for the Manual:

There is a known bug regarding access to the Mac User Manual.

The work around is to right click on the application and select Show Package Contents--> Contents--> Resources--> Help--> index.html

That should get you to the manual.

    Vic

thanks for passing on the info

  5. I had issues too with the free part...it seems they don't have it any longer.

if I'm wrong please someone correct me.

this thing feeds off into the internet like tivo does, and you/we are at the mercy of the sellers

if they decide to change anything....it just goes out automatic

like when guys using tivo ended up getting updates to software that they didn't want updated, it caused them bugs headaches etc etc etc

only a programmer could remove that bit where it is calling out to the mothership

    I wish I was one....

it could possibly nuke the older versions someone took offline, then put back online for whatever reason and it'll change it.

can anyone at the mothership confirm that the freebie wavepad is dead and gone?!

[[ been away for a while, just seen PINNED at the top sez there's a link to free version, but I wasn't going to test it out.]]

  6. I don’t usually reply to posts but I will in this case. Thank you for all the information.

why didn't you say how the post helped you?!

we're all here for the info and help if we can

  7. I'm not sure what is going on with 4.24 but wow does it crash a lot. I am working in Vista with large wav files, basically recording audio tapes to digital. All I can do in WavePad is record and save. When I open any large wav files and try to delete empty sections, copy, paste or any of the above it hangs and I have to close it.

    Does anyone else experience this?

you may want to try 4.52

on another machine if possible or delete current version, try 4.52 see if it handles the job

    if it does

then tell nch you need to re register in the newer version as the old is too buggy

I don't know how they'll respond...they don't do stuff the way I'd like them to or expect them to.

their shopping cart still can't take my visa card, but the paypal button did work....

  8. When I try to uninstall WavePad using the windows uninstaller it will run WavePad and WavePad then askes me to register it as the trial peroid has expired but it won't uninstall it.

it SHOULD give you another option

    try rebooting your computer first

    then uninstall

    if it won't let you

get revo uninstaller , from download.com, it's free and it works, I've used it a few times recently

it WILL remove it...just follow all the prompts, also when it asks you to check the bold only files, go ahead and check them only, no others and just follow the prompts

  9. I love the current interface, compared to previous versions, but with this version, I cannot do the one thing I rely on WavePad for: splicing songs. At my splice point, the software introduces a small pop. When I try to remove one pop, I seem to only create an additional one. This happens every time I select an area and delete it. I sure hope this is me and that I have overlooked a new setting or something, because I really enjoy working the new interface. I'm using Windows 7 Professional.

    Rick A.

    Pleasanton CA

    I never tried that.

are you saying you are splicing together edited songs back to back and where you splice them together you hear a pop?

are you magnifying the area large enuf to make sure you aren't missing some of the file when you delete?

you might wanna try highlighting that area, and use noise reduction on it, or reduce volume to -200%

    please post back results

  10. Ok, now I’m partially able to answer my own question, as I’ve recently acquired a new system with Windows 7. This is only a partial answer because I really only use the basic editing features.

Drum roll, please … and the (partial) answer is …

    Yes! It works!

When trying to install it, it complained about not being designed for any version after Vista, but then it allowed me to install it with the compatibility wizard. It created a shortcut on my desktop, which I right-clicked, clicked the compatibility tab, and then selected XP service pack 3. The compatibility mode that I settled on was XP service pack 3 because that’s the last operating system that I happily ran it under.

Now you might reasonably ask me why I don’t just upgrade to the new version of WavePad, and the answer is I would except for one very critical design flaw. But that’s the subject for another post: WavePad Screen Scrolling – An Ocular Migraine.

yeah, I don't like that bloody screen scrolling bit myself

I had to bite the bullet and just work around it...but yes it is quite annoying

not that the engineers give a rats patoot....they'd have to admit they messed up then eh!?

if they're really customer service oriented, they'd make a switch, to scroll, on or off

like the new ugly non color gray...at least they allowed us to put back the green!

just don't expect much, and you'll be pleased as punch.....:-)

  11. I took some of my prerecorded sound files of talk shows that I have done in which with Wavepad, I converted them from WAV to MP3, and then with the Wavepad noise reduction feature I selected reduce hum and hiss at -20db. Now the sound of my files is very choppy with severely reduced volume and intermittent dead spots. Can I restore my sound files and fix this problem?

    James P. Madonna

you always have to work with copies

actually wavepad does make a copy if you change the name when you save

but you have to go to file, then save as...add new name

then you'll have the original, and the one you worked on

but other than that, no sorry, it's lost.....[ I don't use their noise reduction, the controls are not to my liking, so I tweak that with other software if I have to ]

  12. i've tested the cd with jetaudio player. but when i open the cd with wavepad and play it, the sound is distorted to the point of being non-functional.

what makes the troubleshooting particularly egregious is that wavepad worked fine before. no, i don't remember any system changes that affected audio settings.

i am tempted to reinstall my operating system and reinstall wavepad again, as i have already tried this solution. it didn't work before, so there isn't much hope it will work again.

i searched the post database but there wasn't anything useful. should i just contact tech support? i need this software to work, and to this end, i've purchased it. does anyone have experience with this distortion phenomena? i'm completely at a loss.

    update: i've reinstalled my operating system along with all the drivers. everything on my pc is ship shape and bristol fashion. the only software installed is wavepad. this "only installed" software is indicative of it's importance. i need it to work. why isn't it working? using xp professional, service pack 2, windows media player, msi motherboard K8N Neo4 Platinum Model MS-7125; Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400+;

    - Compliance with AC97 v2.3 Spec.

    - Meet PC2001 audio performance requirement.

update: i've isolated the problem to my audio, and not wavepad, by switching the audio out from front channel to rear channel speakers, and switching the audio out from reach channel to front channel speakers. now i can listen to wavepad without distortion on the rear channel speakers. well, i guess this mean my sound card is working fine in both front and rear outputs, but my speakers are having a problem playing it. particularly, the problem is with front speakers. let me get with that ...

    thanks for updating that info!!!!!

  13. I have been a great advocate of NCH software generally., and have paid for a number of applications. As for sound editing I have had great success with WAVEPAD MASTER'S EDITION 3.05 .... until now! I chose to pay for the master's edition at a time when the basic version was free. Now I seem to have been pernalised (see below) because I cannot use the version I've paid for on a new computer!

I kept a copy of the exe file just in case, and the text of ID and software activation key.

When I needed WavePad on the new computer, without thinking I downloaded from the NCH website, not realising that it was a newer version. When I entered my ID/Key it was rejected and I was directed to a URL inviting me to pay for an upgrade. Why would I want to upgrade. 3.05 Master's Edition has done everything I could possibly have wanted. So I uninstalled, copied the exe file onto the new machine and started all over again. Now my paid-for version won't work in exactly the same way. The 'About' dialogue says: Licensed User, Unlicensed software even though it appears to be the old Master's Edition which is actually installed and working. Obviously (to me) the previous download from NCH has resulted in something being left, and not uninstalled, on my new computer, which prevents me returning to what I have paid for. All VERY UNSATISFACTORY!

This has reduced my enthusiasm for NCH, sadly.

    AHR

try using revo uninstaller to see what was left in there

delete all the garbage left behind from your booboo

then try to reinstall what you paid for using your legit key

you should always email yourself the file and registration bits along with the version, cuz they don't mark them

that way you never lose them, just open your email ....

but the uninstaller should find the left overs...if on the offchance it doesn't see anything, reinstall the wrong software again, then launch revo

and have revo uninstall it, follow all the prompts to delete the files in bold only

and it SHOULD take care of the leftover critters causing you issues

now reinstall your legit exe file and registration info

    please post back!!!!!!!

  14. Nubee here so i apologise upfront if i don't get the tekkie data correct.

Before i cut out a highlighted section i wanna hear it first to make sure i have the bit. When i hit the play button it starts from the beginning of the track and not the highlighted section. I have checked the help files but can't find anything that helps.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Many thanx

    Dug

I'm familiar with the process and use that myself...I can't answer as to exactly why that happened to you

you may have to reinstall the software!!!

I wish I had a better answer for you....

  15. I'm getting this a lot too. I work a podcast regularly and it's a great piece of software but it keeps crashing when you try to edit near the end the the file (this is not the first time it has happened). I'm editing MP3's too so saving is a time-consuming hassle to save periodically.

After 2-3 hour grind of editing, it's not something you want to see. It is reminiscent of writing essays in school/university days...

Is there an auto-save feature? If there isn't, I would strongly urge you to implement one like MS Word.

    Feeling numb at the moment.

I know the feeling...it was a while back but yeah, that sinking feeling of all that lost work...you wanna scream!!!!

obviously work on copies or have copies, but like I told the other poster

ya gotta work on smaller chunks , then stitch them back together

and saving word brings back nightmares too....not from a crash, but an inadvertent bump to the wrong key lost all the previous typing and editing

and naw, word saves way faster than audio files....no can do on audio

  16. My computer died while I was saving a 2-hour podcast. Is there any way to retrieve the partially saved file in it's entirety?

I noticed some users were able to save .grf and .aud files - I have NO idea how to do even that.

Any suggestions on either front? Thanks much!

    K :)

the only obvious suggestion would be to work on smaller parts of the file

find a convenient spot to cut then make a folder for it and number it/them accordingly

    I feel your pain...wish I had a better answer...but that's it.

  17. SOLVED!!!! Amazing how the mysterious becomes commonplace with a bit of time and searching. The manual tells you 'what',but, not 'how'- keep playing with it.

    that's it!?!?!?

    you don't wanna share?

that's why we're here ya know, to share!!!!!

  18. I have the registration and id codes for an older version of wavepad not knowing in order to reinstall I had to back it up is there anyway to reinstall this software

    you weren't too clear here

do you have the original exe file or not?

if yes, then just reinstall it, if not

maybe you can find someone here who has a copy and they can email it to you.

nch does not save old files, or so I was told...

we have to keep our original files secure, burned or otherwise, as well as the registration info [ best kept in an email sent to yourself ]

  19. Hi everyone, I am converting a series of voice-only (no music) tape recorded lectures to mp3 format. Unfortunately, there is a background ticking sound (probably from a clock that was left next to the microphone) that is quite annoying. Given that I can record (from the parts where no-one is speaking) just the ticking clock as a sound signature, is there a way of using this signature to cancel-out the background ticking sound from the recording? I am currently using WavePad version 4.46. Any suggestions on this matter will be greatly appreciated!

sorry, there is no real quick fix that I know of

mark the spots ++++ the spot til you have it exact, highlight the exact spot, then delete

I doubt that will work for, but that's all I got

  20. I've been using wavepad 3.05 for years. I LOVE it. Wavepad 3.12 had some stupid problems (constantly using Windows clipboard), so I just went back to 3.05.

Well, I tried the latest version only because Windows 7 can't run 3.05. NCH messed up Wavepad!!! T.T

The equalizer now amplifies your file to compensate for volume lost from equalizing. No thanks!!! Let me be in control of the volume, thank you. Also, the equalizer no longer remembers your settings, so you have to manually put them in each time you want to try an equalization. Why is it less functional now?

Most annoyingly, Wavepad often only plays the selected region ONCE, and then often jumps back to the start of the file, so you have to click and scroll to get back to the selected region. How could NCH kill the agility of the program like that? Just so people can listen to other parts of the file without de-selecting the region? NOT WORTH IT.

Oddly, Wavepad plays some little chunk of the selected region after it plays the selected region. I don't know who on Earth would want that.

WHY DID THEY MESS UP WAVEPAD!! It's still better than clunky Audacity, but it was AWAESOME in version 3.05 (which was not updated for more than a year, as I recall). A couple functions didn't work perfectly, but it was so agile and overall it was awesome.

Did NCH get new management since version 3.05? So disappointed... NCH, Please make version 3.05 for Windows 7. Please!!! Even the green waves looked cooler than the gray format you have now.

    I just installed v- 4.52 and it works fine on 7- 64bit

you may have to just use it on a dual boot setup...talking dual operating system, your old O/S for wavepad and 7 for the rest.

it's been too long since I used and loved 3.05...I think that was my first....and it took 2 years to pay for it!!!!! I could have just used the free version, but I was a fairly happy customer and wanted to pay for the product.....the bloody shopping cart they use is not compatible with normal banks...probably an exchange thing, they don't know and never could get a straight answer...but yeah, two years....I forget how and when it finally went thru...I should of taken notes and saved it as a diary...it was hilarious

I just purchased switch plus and paypal went thru, but the visa wouldn't, so they still have bank shopping cart issues.

I use switch plus, to extract audio from dvds....I have lectures and sermons and teachings on dvd, but wanted to just hear them...on my sansa clip plus...so this worked perfect for me...

you can still make it green in options like the old version looked

  21. I have purchased a split track that has 18 songs but 83 tracks for the purpose of rehearsing. When I use the track it has untimely pauses in middle of songs..anyway to remove those?

I'm not sure exactly what that is!

But first make note of the time that pause happens, then copy the entire file....using the copied file, go to the timeframe you noted, highlight the area where the pause is [ amplify it if needed to see better using the + sign on lower right ], and delete most of pause, play it back from a spot just prior to the pause to see how it plays back, if it's ok, then save the file, if not, either add to or delete more time so it feels right to you!!!

  22. Grateful if Mr. Kennywally would enlighten the little poor novice like me what is Magix ... I am facing the same problem of reducing some unwanted background noise from my video taken ... Thanks ...

Just do a search, it'll popup

they make several diff kinds of audio software but only one that you would use.

I know some engineers use some sophisticated equip but we're talking moocho dinero

Probably the fbi and cia have stuff like that but it's not store bought equip for the most part.

Recording with a mic outside is most challenging , and why most folks use a foam cover

to at least kill the wind noise, but then other factors unexpectedly come into play just

when you really don't want anything else there.

I would try the equalizer on magix one band at a time til you feel it out.
