Cache Issues

Having a problem where the cache does not clear automatically even when it appears to be running the auto clear.

This wouldn't be a huge issue except that the cache quickly balloons to over 100GB in a couple of hours of editing, even for projects where the .vpj and all imported clips total less than 2GB.

Is there a solution beyond just repeatedly manually clearing the cache through the disk menu?

You can adjust the low space warning image.png

But other than that, there is no auto-clean feature.  It's wise to clear the cache prior to starting a new project.

In the current release a 4GB project is caching 2GB worth of files here.  If you are running an older release, caching may be different.

For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.

  • 2 months later...

I just started playing with VideoPad last night, and the first thing I noticed was the drivespace consumption.  This afternoon, to ensure it wasn't something I was doing wrong late last night, I loaded up the same video that's barely over 1 gb (2 hrs long).  All I did was put a single split point in the timeline and, already, VideoPad has written 50 GB of files to folders under the VideoPadCache folder.  That is insane.  What's worse is that without making any other edits (just inserting that single split point) the audio and video are already out of sync "to the right" of the split point.

Use this release.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee is required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.  If there's an issue, you can always revert.

If audio and video are linked, as with most video clips, they will stay in sync as edits are made.

Share your project and someone will take a look at caching and splitting.  It's easy, quick and can be shared privately.  Just follow these steps closely...

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  Right-click the file and click SHARE. When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
