How to add dead air during a transition

Hi there,

So I have no idea why, but whenever I've used a transition effect before, it must have always been from a slide with music behind it to a video with someone talking.

Right now I have 2 video clips both with talking, & I put a 3 sec transition in between, & now we can hear the next video's audio before the person talking on the first clip is finished. 

Is there a way to do the transition on both the video & audio so this doesn't happen, or do we need to put 3 secs of dead air in between the 2 clips & how do we do that?

Open OPTIONS | EDITING tab and UNcheck this box...     Now delete the trans, then reinstate it.

Does that fix it?
