Is there any way to build preview first?

I've just purchased and installed the latest version. But I'm having a problem with a jerky preview. Didn't have it with the older version I had.

Is there any way to build the preview prior to viewing it, rather than on the fly? This would help with previewing to check things, rather than having to build the entire video.

Yes, I understand it's my system config, but I can't afford anything new at the moment.

Once the clips are fully cached there should be no "building preview" delay.  With very high-def or large files this can take some time.  Let the green line complete.

Adding effects may cause re-caching, but that delay should be minimal.

With 2/4K files, consider proxies - a common practice.  Smaller versions of the files are used for editing, then the originals are substituted for export.

See the Proxy Editing sticky at the top of this forum.  Also. if your PC runs Windows 64-bit, install the VP 64-bit release, which better utilizes memory.

I've gone back to V11.64 64bit and most of this has gone away. The one I purchased was 13.45. Not sure if it was 64bit. But it was terrible. Couldn't really preview at all and the compiled video also had jittering.

Anyway, the project has just 1 video file. The rest are images, so no huge videos to contend with.

Just a pity I can't use the version I upgraded to from 6.1, believe it or not.

You might want to check out this beta while awaiting a new release version, which should be along soon.

Take a minute to share your project, and we'll see how it does here. The process is easy, quick and can be done privately.  Just follow these steps...

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
