Mike Nomic
I'm trying to use the free version of videpoad 7.00, and any .avi files that I import only load to 04.07.314 (4 minutes 7-ish seconds). They worked fine in WMM, but recent updates to Windows 10 have disabled that, so I'm looking for a new editing suite. Videopad appears to fit the bill for my simple needs, except for this issue, previously discussed here: - http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/22347-video-clip-length Help, please. borate
What file type are you attempting to load? Upload a few files to a free server and link them publicly here. Someone will take a look. Here's how.. http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/
Mike Nomic
I said in my original post that they are .avi files. What further information do you want? I do not currently have any files that I can make available to you.
borate
AVI is a wrapper and may contain one of several codecs. You can send a personal message (upper right-hand corner) with a link to a file if that's feasible, to see if your result can be confirmed here. Mike Nomic
OK, I've shot a video and created a file. I'm not familiar with the procedures outlined in your linked 'tips' message. The file is 46m 44s long, but when I import it into videopad, hey presto, the import stops at 4.07.314. Please let me know, keystroke by keystroke, how to upload this file, and which version you want - the full one or the truncated version. Thanks. borate
Please upload the full single file to a free server such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or the like. You may have to create an account. Then make it public (share it). Paste that public link here, so someone can access it and download the file. Mike Nomic
File uploaded. This was shot on a Panasonic NV-DX110B camcorder, and imported into Windows Movie Maker 6.0 as a DV-AVI(PAL) format. borate
Confirmed. VP isn't seeing the full DV-camcorder file. A bug report has been filed.
Mike Nomic
The .wmv version loads fully. I'd already found this by testing a .wmv file almost identical to one of the many .avi files that won't load. However, for example, the .avi test file that I sent is 9.42Gb, and the .wmv version that you have returned is only 780Mb, and I'm concerned about loss of quality, clarity, etc doing this. I'd rather edit the original file and convert at the end, or when uploading as another format in order to retain the quality of the original file. borate
Understandable. The bug is being addressed though it's unknown whether it will be corrected in a soon-to-be-released version.

Mike Nomic
So does anybody have ANY idea of the timescale on this, or do I need to find another editing programme?
borate
Mike, eyeing the source material it appears there would be little degradation in going with the WMV file. Looks good here on a 24-inch monitor. But, that's subjective of course. Using the WMV as a proxy is an approach that would allow you to get busy with editing while the issue is addressed. Here's how that works... http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/26563-proxy-editing/ No guarantees, but it should succeed. If not, it should at the least result in a usable production. Mike Nomic
So, if I'm understanding you corrctly, I use prism to convert the .avi file to .wmv; edit the .wmv file, and then replace with the .avi format so that it is then edited, or I can export the file as a .mp4 to the web? Please confirm.
borate
You can edit the WMV, then export in any suitable format for your WEB presentation. Or, later, if the AVI import issue is corrected, it should be possible to replace the WMV with the original file, per the Proxy instructions, and export that result. Again, no guarantees.^_^
Mike Nomic
Gotcha. Please advise as soon as the .avi issue is resolved. Thanks.
c_major
This is a known issue of the (OpenDML) decoder. We are still looking for an alternative. Update: This issue has been fixed.
Mike Nomic
Can I just continue, or do I need to reload the programme?
borate
** UPDATE ** Tested your original file on the 7.01 release version (as of 2/7/19), and it loaded.
c_major
To get the fix in the beta version, existing users need to delete all the components to get the old codec replaced. If you don't bother to do this please wait for the upcoming release.
Mike Nomic
Version 7.01 loaded. My .avi files now load fully as far as video is concerned (Thanks), but the soundtrack only loads as far as about 5m 56s. It loads fully on other types of files: .wmv, .mp4. Mike Nomic
Yes, sorry, the test tape sound cuts out at about 4:56.
borate
4:56 is where the sound cuts out here. Reported.
Mike Nomic
OK, after several attempts, I've done that. The soundtrack works fine, although appears far longer than the video (1:10:06 against 0:46:44). What's the next stage? I don't feel I can create mp3 files for all my unedited videos; there are 300+ hours of raw footage.
