Timing narration to video

Hey everybody.  I'm new to video pad and was wondering if someone could help me.  I put together a number of video clips of varying lengths and wanted to add narration.  Before I tried to add the narration, I practiced what I wanted to say while watching my video in "Sequence Preview".   I could watch the red line move across my clips and it helped me time what I wanted to say during each clip.  But when I attempted to add the narration, I found that, in the narration window, I had nothing to prompt my narration.  No moving red line to tell me when the video was transitioning to the next clip.

How do you time your narration without anything telling you your transition to the next clip is about to happen?  Do you just guess?  I had both the narration window and the sequence preview window open but the red line in the sequence window did not move, only the line in the narration window.  And it gave no clue when the next clip was about to start.  Any ideas?

Thanks

What VP version?  Using a beta version here, which may slightly differ from yours, the feature works well...

Click the red RECORD button and then click OVER VIDEO.  A large screen should appear.

Click RECORD and your project should play.  As it does, record your voice at the appropriate locations.

When done, the file will appear in the audio bin and on the time line as another audio track.  Handle it as you would any other clip.  The voice file will also will be saved to the MUSIC folder on your PC.

Hi

With your mike set up and levels checked etc., drag the red cursor line to the start of your narration. Click the down arrow to the right of the Record tab and select "Over Video"  This will open a preview screen with the red cursor line at the bottom with the Start and Stop buttons for the narration recording. You will perforce have to record the narration live while watching the project. There are no indications when the clips in the video change, and so its not that easy without practice.

However you will end up with an audio clip (wav file) in the clip bin as well as on the timeline that you can split edit and move about like any file. Another way is to write a commentary to fit the scenes and read it out while recording; and ignoring the visible preview, The object is to use VP simply as a recorder. You record statements  with silences between them that can be easily edited to fit the visuals. This method tends to be less spontaneous but can be more accurate with no "Umms and Errs"

Thanks guys.  I'm using Video Pad Professional v. 5.01.  When I click on record, the only choices I have are: 1) Record Video, 2)Capture Screenshot, 3) Record Screen, 4) Record Audio and 5) Narrate.  I don't see a choice "Over Video".  I bought this version not too long ago, is there a newer version?

I can't figure out how to include a screenshot here or I would.  That "Insert other media" button is kinda confusing.  How do you "insert existing attachment"?  Don't know what that means.

See the 'sticky' post - Tips for getting help - at the top of this forum, for instructions on how to insert an image here.

NARRATE is what you want in that version.  Yes, there have been many enhancements since 5.01.  An upgrade might be in order, but it won't be free - except on a trial basis.  Test it.  Retain the 5.01 install file, to restore if desired.

borate,

I don't mean to be a pain here but, after reading the "Tips for getting help" topic, I'm still a little confused.  It says, "Then click the IMAGE icon in the toolbar (above the VP forum compose window) and paste that URL".

The screenshot in the tip is different from what I see at the top of the window I'm writing in now.  I don't see an "image icon".  If I mouse over each item at the top of this window, none of them say "image icon".   I'm wondering if the screenshot is out of date or something.

Anyway, I uploaded a couple of screenshots to Google Drive and tried to post them here. I used the "Insert other media" button at the bottom of this window but when I inserted the url in the space, it turned a pinkish red color and nothing else happened. I assume it didn't take it.

It seems my request for help with Video Pad has turned into a request for how to ask for help asking for help.

Hi.........No problem.....

Inserting an image into a forum post.

  • Do a screensave or have a suitable image available to demonstrate your point. (e.g. a jpeg)
  • Goto   https://pictr.com/ and click "Start Uploading" This will open a File upload window.
  • In the File Upload window navigate to your image
  • Select the image and click Open.
  • Click the green Upload button. Your image will be uploaded to Pictr.com
  • When upload is complete scroll down and click Embed codes
  • Copy the Image URL. (It also has a Copy option if you hover over the text so click the word Copy that appears )
  • Return to the forum and in your post place the cursor where you wish your image to insert.
  • Now click Insert other media at the bottom of the post.
  • Select Insert image from URL. This opens up a window above your post.
  • Paste your Image URL that you copied from Pictr.com followed by Insert into post...
  • The image will appear in your post at the position of the cursor.
  • Left clicking on the image will allow it to be suitably sized in the body of your post.
