I ended up having to go back to former versions to have reasonable export speed / CPU usage.
-
I am using H264. Yes I know H265 will be even slower. LOL....
It was pretty acceptable when I used lower bit rate sources, or lower res pictures. The CPU utilization can go up to 90%+ and made the videos ok fast.
But once I started using higher res stuff, CPU seems to be in lazy mode.
-------
Edited to add: I can key in custom bit rate now. I have to just input the number, not "kbps". LOL. -
I'm using version 11.38. When I recently do projects with bigger source files, like 1080p with slightly over 20000kbps, exporting to 25000kbps, the speed of export is very low, with also very low CPU utilization. The same situation happened to me before when I use a high res picture in the video. The whole export process will be slowed down significantly with very low cpu usage.
Also, picking 25000kbps as export brought back the effect of the first few frames being blurry. Plus it doesn't allow me to key in custom kbps now.
-
Got it. it's in the file format.

I want to export a video as animated gif.... so I have no images to add as video.
But when I export, it only has "image sequence". No apng. -
It seems in the past (very old verison) videopad can make animated gif from video but I don't seem to be able to do it now. Exporting into image sequence ain't the thing.
-
I'm still vouching for -amf support. So I can totally get rid of using shotcut just to make use of the hardware encoder. Yeah, I also sent in the suggestion too.
-
That was me who commented about the first few frames being blurry. I solved the problem by choosing one of the default profiles, the highest one, instead of inputting a bit rate myself.

Thank you very much to actually listen to a single paid user's plead. That's incredible.
I tried the 11.32 beta and it's great. During editing it uses gpu a lot more. Also the editing has become more user friendly that when I move the clips around the timeline will scroll.
However, during export, it doesn't use amf (AMD GPU h264_amf) yet. I'm not disappointed though. I didn't expect it would support old computer to begin with. -

This version finally ALLOWS ME TO USE GPU!!!!!!!!!!! Thank god! Thanks NCH for taking care of old computer like mine!

I found the cause. If I chose the preset in encoder, it starts out alright!
If I key in a bit rate I want, like 17100k, it will start out blurred then cleared in some frames. Problem solved. -
11.22. But the blur problem in the starting of the exported video, has been here since I started using videopad in 11.17.
The first few frames will always look like this:
http://www.rsw.com.hk/blur-1.jpg
I just counted, it took 18 frames to return to normal.
The counter in preview did not start the same as the exported video in this case. This is the first time I ever encountered this problem. The counters were always precise in the past when I used it.Yes I know the noise reduction is slow with the warning of asking me to get coffee... but the shotcut one is relatively much faster, so thus why the suggestion.
-
Maybe it's only on my machine, I don't know, but it has been the case for every project I export.

Like this, take a few frames to become fine again.
Oh and the counter showed up several frames earlier in the exported video than in the editor. Plus the noise reduction takes forever compare to shotcut's HQDN3D. -

for now, to make sure all the clip I put in the sequence is at the right frame, I have to use the mouse to drag it passed the cursor slightly to ensure a tight fit at the cursor. LOL. -
OK, I'll use your method on placing the clip and see if it also helps positioning too! Thanks.
-----
I tried the method of place / overlay at cursor and it still become 2 frames later than cursor. Same as pasting. Not a huge problem though. -
During editing today I found out two bugs in videopad. Demonstrated in the video below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFuUGp3No-c
1. The first problem is when I paste an image clip to the video, it doesn't paste accurately on the exact frame my play head was on, but sometimes 1 frame later. I had to nudge it back to where the play head was after the paste to make sure it was at the right frame.
2. The second problem is when I try to adjust the position of the image clip, the clip preview does not update with the clip I highlighted but stuck with the former clip I adjusted. The workaround was to click on empty space first, and then click on the clip I want to update, to make sure clip preview is playing on the highlighted one. Without clicking on empty space first, the click preview always stuck at the former edited one. -
Yes. most of the time it works perfectly. that's why I said it's very random.

Most of the time it works alright. Just very occasionally the audio will takes forever to process. -
Sometimes it is even the VP intro template itself. Sometimes a mp4 video file. It's random. The same file can be totally fine by the next time I start VP.
-
It happens sometimes, not always. In such case I've to restart VP and do the import all over again to the sequence. Usually that solves the problem. Dunno why.
-
Hmm.... in that case, 32 bit version should support 32 bit operating systems. Why otherwise then?
Maybe my radeon 7850 HD is the culprit then. Since shotcut was unable to auto-detect it but able to work with it in manual settings too. I also bought VSDC in hope for making use of the GPU but it was unable to work with my card either. After spending 2 days with their technical support to check my directx settings, they have agreed to refund my VSDC purchase because they found nothing wrong but obviously it didn't work.
Unfortunately the latest nvidia driver produces black screen with cursor for me when I switch to nvidia cards. Maybe I can give it a try again using an older nvidia driver.
-----
Tried the oldest nvidia driver but still black screen with cursor, even after uninstalling all display drivers before installing. I guess with this machine I'm stuck with ATI cards. Maybe looking for a newer one so that it can get supported by videopad.

This is the situation when I set GPU.

Changed to a R7 370 Radeon card and still the same. -

Does 32 bit version has it? I'm on 32 bit win 7.
Slow encoding on bigger sources

I'm pretty sure you can't replicate the problem due to hardware difference maybe, or OS difference, since my export does not involve any GPU usage either (editing does use GPU). Anyway, H264, 27700 bit rate on video and 192 bit rate on audio.
I don't have enough space in my google drive for uploading. And I can't get MS Onedrive's confirmation email to reach my email.
Anyway, I recorded the situation to share with you. I know it ain't of much help but at least have a look.
