  1. Hello Madkinson. I had the same problem. What I found was that my webcam microphone array was turned on. Go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Manage Audio Devices, and ensure that your LP converter device is the default device. Then check any microphones (arrays), by selecting them and clicking on Properties, Recording Level, and ensure that any devices that you are not using are muted. I would also turn the amplifier down as low as it can go. That will not affect the signal strength from the Tape Out jack, unless you have set it to variable. Normally it is fixed. Hope this helps. Let me know how you make out. If that doesn't fix it, I might come up with another idea. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  2. Good day. Welcome to the forum. What are using as a digital converter device? I have a Behringer U-202 device that works really well with Golden Records. Also you might want to connect everything up and turn it on BEFORE booting your computer. Once the computer is booted, go the Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, select Input, and ensure that your device is set to be the default input device. If you have other input devices, go into Properties, Levels, and ensure that they are muted. It doesn't sound like a Windows 7 problem at this point. First thing is to make sure that your device is compatible and properly selected. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  3. Ranjan: You have posted in the wrong forum. This is the Golden Records forum. Sorry I can't help you with your issue. I use another product, from another company, for video editing. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  4. Hello James. Welcome to the Golden Records Forum. RecordPad has its own forum. It has been reported in this forum, when using Golden Records, that the best results are obtained by connecting your turntable to an AV receiver and connecting the Behringer, or whatever converter device you have, to the Tape Line Out jacks. Some turntables just don't put out enough "oomph" to record reliably, at least when using Golden Records. Hope this was of some limited help. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  5. Bluzmaster: Yes, I normally on see the two options: Windows Record Mixer or Microphone. From the sounds of the error message, you may have a driver problem and no audio signal is making it to Golden Records. Don't trust Windows to be right about drivers. Go to the manufacturer's website and get the most recent appropriate driver for your Tascam and install it. That could well resolve your problem. I have attached a link: http://tascam.com/search/?q=Tascam+US-800+driver . Let me know how you make out. Hope it fixes your problem. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  6. I am at a loss as well. You could check the Properties of your Tascam to ensure that the Sound Level is not muted. If you could somehow determine whether the Tascam is actually outputting a measurable audio signal that would enable us to determine whether it is Golden Records that is not detecting the signal or whether the problem is with the Tascam or its configuration on your computer. Sorry I can't be of any more help - I am unfamiliar with the Tascam US800. Regards, -Phil
  7. Please don't commit suicide, BluzMaster! No software is worth that. I have been using GR for almost two years and I have had great success with the Behringer UCA202 converter device: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx From the sounds of things, you have some kind of configuration issue - something is not wired as it should be. When you are in the setup wizard, if you don't see those green bars moving when you are inputting a signal, something is not right. You haven't told us how you are connecting things. I am also wondering if, in the Windows Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, you have made the Tascam your default input audio device. If you haven't, that might be your problem - Windows is ignoring your Tascam. As you can see from the very little activity on this forum, Golden Records seems to work very well for a wide variety of users. No complaints and little activity here is very different from the other forums that I haunt (Acronis, Cyberlink, etc.). So we need to figure out what little tweak is needed to get you in business. More information would help us to help you and should help to prevent a needless suicide! Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  8. DRP58: Glad that you were able to solve the problem. Thanks for getting back to us. You are more than welcome. We have all had to start from Ground Zero to learn to use the software. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  9. DRP58: Sorry to hear that you are having burn issues. Very frustrating. Personally, I don't use GR for burning - I use other dedicated burning software - always have for all my audio and video projects, so that's not a criticism of GR because I have never tried to burn using it. When you indicate that only one song burns, is it possible that you don't have all of the audio file in the window selected? If only one audio file is highlighted, GR would figure you only want to burn that one audio file. Click on an audio file in the window and then press Ctrl-A to select (highlight) them all. I would definitely recommend that you reduce burn speed, if that is possible in GR (can't check because my GR is on my laptop and unavailable right now). Burning speed should be able to be set via a tools or options menu. You could do a test by opening Windows Media Player and importing your files and seeing if you can burn successfully using it - I have used it in the past successfully (use something else now), and it does have the option to reduce burn speed. I usually go for 4x or "Medium" speed for all of my projects. Everytime I have tried to go to max speed, I ended up with coasters. Please let us know how you make out. Have a great day, and good luck. Regards, -Phil
  10. Although Golden Records (GR) does provide the option of direct to turntable connections, a lot of turntables don't put out a strong enough signal to be captured by GR. I use a Behringer analog-to-digital converter device (you can google it - there are other makes as well). I have my turntable connected to an amplifier. I connect stereo cables to the TAPE OUT jacks of the amplifier, and the other ends to the Behringer device, which has a USB cable that connect to a USB port on your computer. The setup works flawlessly and I highly recommend it. I find it helps to connect everything BEFORE turning on your computer. Once your computer is booted, go to the Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Manage Audio Devices, and set the Behringer as the default input. If your computer has a microphone array (a lot do for webcamming), click it and go to the Levels Tab, and mute it, so that the only sound that GR will get is from the Behringer device. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  11. Just thought that I would answer my own question. I did some research and found out that I could connect the Behringer converter to the headphone jack of my stereo by purchasing a 3.5 mm adapter with two RCA male plugs on the other end. I purchased mine at: http://www.justonecable.ca/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_22&products_id=187 . It worked like a charm. The only "trick" is that the volume of the stereo or boombox has to be adjusted to get the optimum recording level for GR. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  12. Good day. I have GR 1.71, which has been working fine converting vinyl tracks to .wav format. I have my turntable connected to my AV receiver (SONY) and am drawing signal to the Behringer UCA202 through the MD/TAPE OUT jacks with the AV receiver set to PHONO. That works great for the turntable, but no signal is detected when I set the AV receiver to MD/TAPE, fire up the SONY cassette recorder, and try to record. The AV receiver is working as the sound is coming through the speakers, but GR detects nothing. Is there a simple solution that I am missing. My cassette deck does not have a built-in amplifier. Any assistance appreciated. Regards, -Phil
  13. I suspect that your DVD+R disc was formatted for a final burn, not incremental burns. The default is normally for the burner to "finalize" a DVD+R after burning files. That means no more files or folders can be added after the initial burn. If your burner and DVDs support an appending format, you will be able to add files at subsequent times, if the DVD+R was so formatted. So the solution is to ensure the DVD+R is formatted to permit "appending" of files or folders; or, to burn all your files and folders that you want on the DVD+R in one burn session. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  14. You need only contact Technical Support with the details of your order. I have seen several messages in the forums where Technical Support has come to the rescue. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  15. Double H: Good morning. You do not mention selecting areas of the .wav file. This is basic to working with WavePad. You have to select the regions of the sound file that you wish to manipulate, trim, cut, paste, etc. Once you have selected a portion of the sound file, the editing buttons/menu are active. The FF button does work when playing. Click on it with the mouse, and hold the left mouse button down, and the playback speed begins to be faster and faster until you release it. It does take a second or two before you will notice the playback speed start to incrementally increase. Hope this helps. Let us know you make out. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  16. Hello Jack 6626. There are a couple of possibilities - the floor noise is not set correctly and/or your setting for detecting end of track is too short. Use the Recording Wizard to properly set your parameters, particularly the floor noise. You must measure that in the space between tracks and click the button to set it. You can also set it manually if you prefer, or if the auto setting doesn't solve the problem. Try setting the floor noise lower so that GR does not interpret quiet passages as floor noise and split the track. For the track splitting time, that is under a menu item (I don't have GR on this computer and my laptop is not here right now), and you can set a period of 1 to 9 seconds if I recall. That doesn't always work perfectly. I use WavePad to splice together any tracks that get incorrectly split, normally happens with very quiet passages or on the fade at the end of a track. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  17. According to the NCH Software website, http://www.nch.com.au/software/buyfaq.html#UPGRADE, you can upgrade for free for only three months after purchase. After that, you follow the link, under Golden Records Help, to get the discount price for an upgrade, usually about 50% off. As you can see, NCH Software makes it expensive to keep up with the current versions of their products. If you upgraded to every new version over a year, you would in essence pay for the app all over again. I have complained about that, but never received a response. Hope this helps. It is good software so I guess if we want the latest versions always, we have to pay. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  18. I can't say as I have ever encountered your situation. I am using Vista on two computers (Home Premium and Home Basic) and I have a copy of Wavepad on each. I never record .mp3 files, just .wav files, and I have never had a problem with the sound being played and Wavepad performing as it should. I know it's a stupid question, but have you verified that the .wav file is not corrupt or "missing" content? Will the file play in Windows Media Player? It can happen that a file can be trashed because a user mistakenly saves only a small portion of the file or uses one of the "tools" to knock most of the frequencies and saves the result inadvertently. I don't mean to be insulting, but I just have never had your problem, and I don't think it is a Vista issue, though there are plenty of those. I was one of the first to get Vista (just had to replace that 8-year old computer) a couple of years ago, and so I have been on the "bleeding" edge of Vista "enhanced" features. It was not pretty. Let me know if you find out what the problem is. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  19. Yes, I have done that, and did not have any problems whatsoever, with an older version of Golden Records. I now use WavePad to check out my recordings and remove hiss and artifacts, so I have not done it lately with the newer versions of GR. It might be a hardware conflict that is causing your grief; or, maybe even a bug. Sorry I can't be of more help. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  20. Bill: Thanks for the undeserved compliment. I am no GR guru, I can assure you. I do like the program, and apart from the crashes, it is fantastic. Thanks for confirming my Vista suspicions. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  21. Good day. According to NCH, http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/kb/free.html, the free version last forever - it's freeware, so they say. If it is not, then they could be cited for false representation. I have several NCH products and I am reasonably happy with them, but some only have a brief trial version of 14 or 30 days or whatever, then the "nag" screens start. I have two copies of the WavePad Master's Edition (bought and paid for on two computers), so I can't say for certain that WavePad (free version) is good forever, as the website states. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  22. Good day. JasonB has answered your question about static removal. The way to save the file is to select all, or a portion of it, then the "Save" button will not be grayed out. If you want to save the whole thing, Ctrl-A (Select All) will do it. Not sure why you can't exit, unless WavePad is detecting that you did make changes and didn't save them yet. Try a SAVE, after selecting, and see what happens. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  23. I am not sure what the problem is. The only thing that comes to mind, if Express Burn does not report an error during the burn process, is that your CDs might be CD-RWs, instead of CR-Rs. From my experience, CD players don't like CD-RWs. What kind of sound files are you burning? Are you "overburning"? If you could provide some more details, some here, more knowledgeable than me, might be able to help you resolve the issue. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  24. I can't speak for the Mac version - I am using Windows Vista Home Premium (don't even say it!). My quad core 2.66 GHz with 4 GB of RAM does a superb job with Golden Records (GR) converting vinyl. I have noted that GR does seem a tad fussy about where it stores its recordings - an external drive might not be the best - I'd recommend you stick with the default folder. The other problem many seem to have is direct phono to computer. I know GR has that option, but not all turntables seem to be alike and the signal from many is too weak for GR to grab it cleanly. I connect my phono to my receiver and then feed the Behringer UCA-202 converter box with my "Tape Out" jacks on the receiver. It has worked like a charm and I have successfully converted over 20 LPs with that setup. There is the occasional crash (a Vista enhanced feature - remember, there are no bugs in Vista - right!). In any event, let us know how you make out with your Intel machine. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  25. You have to go to the NCH website and compare the two versions. The free Wavepad details can be found at: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html. The info on the WavePad Master is at: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.html#101. I have the Master's Edition and I recommend it. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
