Exporting to youtube at 1080p, and when it finally uploads (twice now) it's 360p and sound cuts out

I have used this product for years on and off (only specific reasons), and don't understand why I am experiencing this issue now. In fact, just the other day I exported a video to youtube at 1080p 60 fps and it works fine. Now today after spending hours and hours of editing, it exports at 360p and sound cuts out after 1 second of playing.

When I watch it through a discord post, the sound is fine, but the video is obviously always at 360p..

Why is this happening? It makes no sense at all! I'm considering just switching to another software because I'm tired of this nonsense... I'm doing the same thing I did for the last video I exported to youtube.. any ideas before I make the switch?

Even if I press play (while its all buffered and seemingly loaded) in fullscreen, it goes to crap. When I pause it and fullscreen, it goes 1080p until I hit play...

For protection, Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.

Does a 1080p export mysteriously result in 360 video and bad audio?  Or is it only when directly exported to YT?  Try using their uploader for the 1080 file.

To track this down we'll need to take a look at the project.  Please share it here or in a Personal Message by closely following the instructions below.

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Am I supposed to upload the raw video files with it?

When I export I send it directly to Youtube; Thats what I've always done.
here is the uploaded video on youtube so you can see it if you want.

There has to be a better way to solve this, than uploading and sending files.. I'll just spend the time using another program if thats the case.

Follow the instructions above, which will create a folder with all files + the VPJ control file.

That's the best and quickest way to solve the problem.  Takes only minutes, can be private via a Personal Message and isn't difficult.

Be sure, when uploading directly, that the "360" box isn't checked.

What happens when you export at an mp4 and use YT's uploader?

The video itself is 360p in the editor unless I fullscreen it, but thats only momentary. as soon as I hit play its quality is reduced again. Your instructions are not clear because there is no numbered folder. Its not a matter of it being difficult, its the tediousness and I've wasted a day trying to solve this already. There is also no Individual VPJ. Perhaps you could clarify this. There is no point in exporting it because its quality is shit in the editor. The raw files are 1080p.

Go to FILE | BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO A FOLDER.  Select the folder.

When the process completes there will be a numbered subfolder that looks something like this...   image.png

Upload that folder, share (make the link public) and post the link here.

All the source files and the VPJ will be in that folder so we can see what you see.  Don't bother with an export;  that's not needed.

  • borate changed the title to Exporting to youtube at 1080p, and when it finally uploads (twice now) it's 360p and sound cuts out

One thing to try...

Close VP.  Relaunch it and before loading anything go to OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.  Then load the project.

You can also try installing the latest release.

Some issues cannot be analyzed unless folks can see the project.  Sharing with other users here often resolves problems quickly.

  Good luck!
