It's not recording

Hi all,

So I bought a new mic & I tested it on Skype & while the volume was low, I could hear myself.

Anyway, I'm pressing record (it's been a long time since I've used the software, but it worked 2 years ago) and then stopping it, but when I go to play back, there's nothing & it shows zeros for the length of the test.

What am I doing wrong?

And yes, in options under record I did change it to this new mic. Now I did change it to .wav, but why would that cause issues?
