addressed Removing high noise peaks in audio

During the video there are high noise spikes that I want to cut out or silence. How can I do this. I tried putting the cursor over at the beginning and end of the spike but nothing is being cut, not even the video. But of course I don't want to cut the video. I either want silence the audio spike or cut it out altogether at those different places.

Unlink audio from video by clicking in either track and choosing UNLINK...

Expand the track with the slider at the right-bottom... 

Locate the peak and split it, front and end

Right-click the newly split-out clip and MUTE AUDIO.
