I happily followed the video tutorial on how to crop a video:  no problem - done that.

BUT - the result is a video with blank black space around the outside of the cropped area.

I can't see any "how to" videos or other support info on how to resize my video to match the cropped area.

How do I resize the video to match the cropped area ?

Try using the ZOOM effect instead of CROP.  Then chose the desired aspect ratio from the drop-down box.

Thanks - but on trying ZOOM I still have a problem.

The image is now distorted into the new ratio I chose (4:5)  and there is no actual cropping.

So my questions remains:

How do I both crop and resize the video to match the cropped area so I don't get either a distorted video or a blank/black area around 3 sides of what I have cropped?

All I can find is tutorials on how to zoom into a part of the screen.   I don't want to zoom in. 

I was videoing over the top of people in front of me.    I want to cut off the bottom part of the video, so that the the heads of people in front of me are at least mostly cut out of the resultant video.   How can I do this ?

What version of Videopad is being used?  Test the latest.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.

Share your pre-cropped project and someone will check it out.  The process is easy, quick and can be done privately.  Just follow these steps...

•     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
•     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file. 
•     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view" 
•     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Alf, here, has been cropped on three sides - eliminating the lettering beneath him.  That will leave black borders.

  Now, the SCALE effect has been added, to increase image size to fill the frame.

It's not that I don't want to upload the video, but that I want to learn how to do what I want to do.  Having someone do it for me isn't going to teach me.

Try what was shown.  CROP, then SCALE larger to fill the frame.  If that doesn't work please upload the project, as above, and someone will offer a further suggestion.

I see CROP and ZOOM options ... but not SCALE ?   Where is the SCALE function ?

Either the Motion or Scale effect can be used...

They are definitely available though may not be grouped exactly like this, depending upon your version of Videopad.
