1:1 video format (Facebook-Insta)

Hello everybody.

My mobile phone records video in 16:9 format. I would like to 'convert' it into a 1:1 format which fits Facebook and Insta news feed best but without black strips/borders top and bottom.

What is the simpliest way to achieve this? Would you put it down for me step by step? Should I do it before of after cutting the video? I know there's something to do with 'Zoom' effect but it seems pretty complicated to me. I'm looking for the simpliest way...

Hi:

I checked the thread you mentioned but it seems a bit more complicated than what I need...

I simply need a 1:1 video aspect ratio to be cut or zoomed from a different aspect ratio (16:9) - without black borders at the top and the bottom. I believe I have to use Zoom effect. The problem is it seems I have to zoom every part of my video (between the cutting points, inserted images etc.) separately which is pretty annoying. Isn't there an option to zoom the whole video in one? I hope you understand what I mean...

Sincerely,

Greg

Here are three ways to apply a global effect...

1.  Select all clips (ctrl-A).  Right-click on one of them.  Program the ZOOM. then click the effect chain button on the toolbar...  .  global.jpg   The effect will be applied to all selected clips.

2.  Simply export the project, re-import the result, apply the effect and export again.

3.  Create a new, blank sequence by clicking the + sign to the right of sequence 1...  image.png

Then, above the bin, top-left, click the Sequences tab...  image.png

Right-click on sequence 1 and...   image.png

Your project is pasted as a SINGLE clip.  Now apply the ZOOM (or other effect).  Export Sequence 2.

Whatever changes you make, Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the chevron to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.  Then you're protected and can revert if need be.

Well done, it really works! :)

But the 1:1 format which fits Facebook feed completely is still out of my reach.

With using Zoom it looks like this:

With using Crop it's like this:

What can I do it be like this, that is it fit Facebook feed completely?

Thanks in advance:

What is a much bigger problem, I cannot delete a wrong text line from subtitles, it is somehow stuck! I select the text line and press 'delete' in vain again and again. Why?

If it's to look like this... Snapshot - 2.pngno Zoom.  Add the Crop to Aspect Ratio effect with a 1:1 preset and export as letterbox.

If still no joy, drop by again.  Using version 11.92 there's no problem here in deleting subtitle files.  Select | DEL.  Or right-click and choose the option there.

Install the latestFor licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.

Don't do much Facebook here, but when one of your clips was exported from VP at default 16:9 settings, then test uploaded to FB, it appeared as 16:9 -  like this...

Many videos seen there are the same.  Others have black bars of varying thickness or images that have been squeezed (the wrong A/R).

Videopad exports can be most any resolution, including custom settings...  res.jpg

https://www.descript.com/blog/article/guide-to-instagram-video-sizes-how-to-format-your-ig-posts

Facebook states:

"For optimal viewing on mobile, it’s best to use vertical images with an aspect ratio of 4:5 and 1200 x 1500 px.

For square images, opt for a resolution of 1080 x 1080px. And for vertical images use 1200 x 1500 px."

Videopad export at 1080x1080 is likely your answer...  image.png

Hi Borate:

That works perfectly!!! I have an other related question anyway.

If I place an image on Track2, it usually doesn't fit the original screen (Track1). So there are black bars of varying thickness on the edge(s) of the image as you see below.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Aidnn62Lvo7O_M54YuYxVokUCk5m_THv?usp=share_link

The only solution I know is to cut out a part of Track1 and insert the new image instead of it but it is time consuming and what is worse I lose  the affected part of Track1 so I cannot change it later. How can I make a new image on Track2 fit the screen without chopping Track1?

Thanks for your reply in advance:

Greg

Thanks again, you are fantastic!

The official customer service hast just given the nonsensical answer to me:

"Under the 'Sequence Preview' window, you may change the Aspect Ratio and adjust it accordingly." :)))

Of course it doesn't work...

Sincerely:

Greg

Prior to placing the overlay on the timeline, if the bin clip is right-clicked it should present Change Clip Aspect Ratio choices in the drop-down menus.

Stretch is there, but also check out Blur Padding.  The amount of blurriness is adjustable via this effect...  image.png

Thanks, it's perfect! I do like there are more possible solutions to the same problem.

Returning to the 1:1 aspect ratio problem (Facebook): I've uploaded my video exported at 1080x1080 but it doesn't look like the one you shared above (posted September 1).

What could cause the difference?

Yeah, this is the original one, 16:9 I suppose:

And this is the 1:1 (1080x1080 px) one, "square":

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q4aBZYUGWgzamRTzZDgIYrqFZf2PRyRN/view?usp=sharing

The problem is on my screen it doesn't look like a suare at all. It looks like a rectangle:

Why?
