How to use section from image

Hi,

I have an image with my dog (Gemma) in a pose I want to cut her out and put on a different background or layer. I managed to cut around Gemma and could move the section but when I reduced the size the rest of the original  image I had taken her from reappeared under her. How can I select and cut out a section and manipulate it in size and position please?

In that case you need to use the select tool, select the part you wish to keep the click on what is left and click delete to remove what was left, you should then be able to work just with the selected area that you need.

Hi Fred,

Thankyou so much for contacting me. I tried as you suggested. I circled a section I want to keep and select reverse and delete to take out the remaining part of the image. But it then takes everything leaving only dotted lines showing where the image was. Also the image is quite detailed so I need to use erase to take off the remaining bits about the side.
