Express Scribe 5.13 and Dragon 10 Professional

I loaded ES 5.13 on a Win7 machine and it worked fine with MS Speech Recognizer 8.0 (this means that ES successfully transcribed, though the output was rubbish because of MS SR8, it 'worked').

We then had to load ES on a WinXP machine (the Win7 machine was not available anymore) and decided to use Dragon 10 in the hopes that it would be able to transcribe the audio files more accurately. The problem is, we played a file, and when it was done, there was no text in the "Speech-to-Text" window. Tried it again with the same result.

Anyone have any ideas?

By "played", do you mean "loaded"? And by "Speech-to-text" window, do you mean the Notes window?

Did "-- Speech to Text" appear in the Notes window, or nothing at all?

Well, I've loaded a couple of files, then played one (pushed the "Play" button), after which time (when the end of the file is reached...I put my computer on mute) the transcribed text appeared in the Notes window. This was when I had MS Speech Recognizer 8.0 as the only speech recognition engine loaded on my machine.

After I loaded Dragon NS 10.0, it became available in ES and I selected it in the Options --> Speech to Text, added a new User ID and profile, then ran (pushed the "Play" button) on a new file, just like I did last time.

The file played all the way through, but nothing showed up in the Notes area except the default text (<Type notes for the currently selected dictation here>).

Any ideas?

The speech-to-text conversion is started when the file is loaded, not when it is played. It's unfortunate, but if you want to re-run the speech-to-text conversion (e.g., after choosing a different engine) then you have to delete and re-load the dictation.

Maybe send a suggestion (Help -> "Send Improvement Suggestion or Feedback") to add the ability to start speech-to-text conversion manually?
