WMA playback too fast

Recommended Posts

I have been using ES to transcribe MP3 files with no problems. Now I need to transcribe WMAs, and the playback is too fast -- sounds like Chip & Dale. I can slow down the audio, but the pitch is still very high. The files play fine in Windows Media Player, so that leads me to believe the problem is not the files themselves. These files were created on an Olympus Digital recorder. Any ideas???

Does the recorder have different recording modes? e.g. Long play (LP) mode? Do you have the same problem if you switch to standard play (SP) mode?

The bug reporting page (Help -> "Send bug report") gives you the option of uploading a sample file, if you're able to.

I switched the recording mode to SP, but it is only slightly better. I can slow it down better, but the sound is still high pitched/distorted. It's transcribable, but not good. I can't upload a sample; it's medical, so I will have to have my dictator create a sample for me with no patient information.

I am having the same problem. WMA files will play fine in windows media player but when I try to play them in express scribe the playback is too fast and high-pitched. When I open the file in express scribe there is a status message that says "decoding in direct X". When the file appears in ES the duration listed for the WMA file is much shorter than it should be (2 min instead of 4 min). MP3 files play correctly in express scribe.

I was told by NCH technical support: "This is unfortunately a recognized issue for wmv files. I have added you to the watchlist so that you will be automatically informed when a fix is released." -Sonjoy

I am having problems with wma files... not wmv. Also I tried installing ES on an old laptop and the same wma file will play just fine on the old laptop.
