  1. I'd like to know the url for the NCH sound effects library so I can track down the problem I'm having (can't connect to server); I'd like to try connecting to it directly through my browser. Ignore this .... I just resolved the access issue (server url was being blocked by my web filter).
  2. Does anyone have any other ideas? I still get the "Connection Failure. Could not connect to server. Please check your internet connection" message, as described above, when trying the "Add Audio from NCH Sound Effect Library" option.
  3. I don't get any drop-down when I click "Clips", but right-clicking in the media bin does bring up that menu. I then clicked "add audio from NCH sound effects library." but still get the "Connection Failure. Could not connect to server. Please check your internet connection" message. Clicking on "Add images from NCH Clipart library" in the menu does bring up a list, but maybe that library is local on my pc, and doesn't require an internet connection??
  4. Just downloaded 4.21 (Windows 8.1). Tried the "Add Stock Sound" option, but I get "Connection Failure. Could not connect to server. Please check your internet connection" message. I am connected to the internet. What else should I check?
  5. When can we expect the next Windows release, and can you give highlights of what it will contain?
  6. Daorus, You are a scholar! I had preview res set to 1920x1080... reduced it to 512x288 and much better playback. 4K videos playback better too, though still stutter. I'll look into an SSD. Thank you!
  7. Task Manager shows total CPU at 32%, Memory at 46% while the clip plays; CPU briefly jumps to 62% after "Building preview" appears, and Memory stays at 46%.
  8. I'm using 4.11. To test what you said about building the cache, I loaded a clip into the preview, waited several seconds, and played it in the preview. At 9 seconds into the clip, I got the "building preview" message. I restarted the playback from the beginning, and at 9 seconds I got the message again. Again I restarted playback from the beginning, same results. No matter how many times I restarted from the beginning of the clip, I get the message at 9 seconds. So it doesn't seem that VP is loading the entire clip into cache, but apparently just some fixed amount. Is there a way I can increase the cache size, or make some other adjustment to resolve this? It's very frustrating!
  9. On rel 4.10, I'm finding it almost impossible to effectively edit because just about any clip or sequence I try to play constantly gives me "Building Preview". It wasn't this bad when I first started using VP. This is occurring with HD 1080p clips. I'm using a Dell Inspiron desktop with four I-5 Intel 3.10 GHz processors, a 7200 rpm HDD, and 8GB ram (no special graphics card). Why is this editor so slow now? Can I expect 4.11 to be faster?
  10. Can a freeze-frame option be added at some point? Would like the ability to select a frame to freeze, and specify the duration of the freeze.
  11. I have a 20-second clip that I "changed clip speed" from 100% to, say, 50%. So now the playback time is more than 20 seconds, it is 30 seconds. In the clip preview (rel 4.10), if I slide the cursor to a point beyond 20 seconds to begin play there, and hit the start button, the clip does not begin at my chosen point, it always jumps back to 00:20 and starts playback there. If I slide the cursor to a point less than 00:20, it will play back from the point I chose. But if I choose any point beyond 00:20, the playback will begin at 00:20. Although the total clip playback length after changing its speed is now longer than 20 seconds, it seems the original clip length of 20 seconds is taken as the start point when I choose a start point beyond 20.

    4K video

I just imported a short 4K clip, scaled it up quite a bit, then exported it as 1080p... that all worked fine. I was surprised, and happy it worked!

    Export time

How long would you expect it to reasonably take to export a 40-minute 1080p project? I understand that this will vary quite a bit, depending on the computer, and complexity of the video. I'm using a 4-processor (Intel I-5), 3.10 ghz Dell desktop, 8gb ram. When the export is running, the cpu usage is at about 73%, memory is 33%, disk is 2%. It's taking well over an hour, closer to 1-1/2 hours, to export the video. Does that sound reasonable? What could I do to this computer to improve that?

    4K video

Questions- 1. Does VP support editing 4K video? 2. If it does, will I be able to mix 4K clips with 1080p clips in one video? 3. I'm going to purchase a 4K camera... is there anything I should know or be concerned about first, relative to VP ?

    Audio track 2

Dropping audio onto track 2 when there's video/audio to its right on track1 does often cause track 1 to get pushed right. Same can also can happen when dropping audio to track3 and lower. When that happens, I undo the operation and re-drop the audio to the next lower audio track, whatever its number may be. At times, I've had up to 5 audio tracks. I can usually then drag the dropped clip upwards to an audio track above, if there's an open gap there that it fits into. So, I can always get around the problem, but it's annoying. It is Rel 4.10.

    Audio track 2

Well, I understand that, but I'm not sure it makes sense. Why would I want the timeline to be expanded when I drag a sound clip to an overlay track? It makes sense if I move a clip to track1, but I don't think it does when moving to overlay tracks. Am I missing something?

    Audio track 2

Yes, it does happen when there's already other clips on audio track 2. But why should that cause the video to be pushed to the right? The audio on track2 isn't linked to the video, and I'd expect audio on track2 to just overlay. Why can I move the audio up from track3 to track2 without pushing the video to the right? If I can do that, then why can't I just drag from the bin to track2 without pushing video to the right?

    Audio track 2

Sometimes when I drag an audio clip from the media bin to Audio track 2 on the sequence, the video clip at that position is moved to the right, creating a gap in the video track. When that happens, I undo the move of the audio clip to get the video clip back where it belongs, re-drag the audio to track 3, and the video does not get moved to the right. I can then often drag the audio clip up from track 3 to track 2 without the video getting moved. This has also happened on lower audio tracks. Why does the video get moved? Shouldn't the audio on track 2 just mix with or overlay track 1? I'm on Rel 4.10.
  19. Recently upgraded to v4.10. Just noticed that I no longer see all my audio tracks at the bottom of the screen. I see Audio track 1, but have to scroll up/down with the audio track display area arrows (right side of audio track area) to see tracks 2 and above. There is more than enough empty space in the video track overlay area. Is there a way to adjust the height of the video and audio track displays so I can at least see 2 or 3 audio tracks simultaneously without scrolling? I haven't found a way to do that yet.
  20. Hi, Yes, I was able to load the file, and it looks good so far. I will continue with the project later today. So, should I avoid using multi-line text clips for now? Thank you very much for your help and quick resolution of the problem, I was not looking forward to having to start all over again!
  21. C_major, Only one of the backup files for this project is good (Mt Tom Peregrines_backup.vpj), but it's so old it's useless to me; I don't know for sure if it was created before I upgraded to 4.10, because the file was created on the day I updated, but I think it was created just before updating. When I open the others in VP, the media bins fill, as I said. The Video Track1 and Audio Track1 do not appear at the bottom of the screen, and the sequences are empty. If I click on a clip and bring it into the clip preview, then click the green arrow to place it on a sequence, nothing appears to happen, the video and audio tracks still do not appear at all on the Timeline or Storyboard, the sequence preview says the sequence is empty; but the message "Did Action: drop clips to track" appears briefly in the lower left corner of the screen. If I drag a clip from the bin directly to the timeline where the Video and Audio tracks should be, then the Video and Audio tracks appear and the clip is there on the timeline. I can then bring the next clip into the preview and drop it down to the sequence as usual. I'm not much of a Dropbox user, but I uploaded the latest vpj file (Mt Tom Peregrines_backup(25).vpj); hopefully you can access it at https://www.dropbox....p (25).vpj?dl=0 The old backup that does load (Mt Tom Peregrines_backup.vpj) is at https://www.dropbox....p (25).vpj?dl=0 I did not upload the media files, they're too large and too many.
  22. I opened one of the latest "_backup(n)" vpj files (after answering "yes" to "do you want to try to load it anyway?"). It loaded the media bins, except the sequence bins, which showed four sequences with the clapper board. All four sequences were empty. I brought a clip into the preview, tried to place it on a sequence, but nothing happened. Apparently, I can't even rebuild my sequences from scratch using the clips in the bins (including many stabilized clips). It looks like everything will have to be recreated from original clips. I have no idea how these backups (all 27 of them!) could have been corrupted, since nothing unusual occurred during my session, other than upgrading to 4.10, and have no other issues with the computer. Even if something had happened, one wouldn't expect ALL the backups to be damaged. I can open older vpj files from different projects ok. It's just this current video project that is no good. Apparently, the worst thing I could have done was to upgrade to 4.1 while in the middle of creating a project. NCH, YOU HAVE ONE REALLY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER HERE.
  23. Yes, the sequence bin shows clapperboards. When I did the "Save As" to the same filename, it did ask if I wanted to overwrite the file, as you said. Normally, when a Windows process asks if you want to overwrite a file, and you say yes, it does just that... overwrites the file. That's why I didn't know where the "_backup()" files came from. Seems odd. At any rate, I still don't know why the backups are all unusable, and I don't have the project loaded; so, it appears I've lost all my work. Not a happy customer.
