  1. Hi

Zooming a clip and keeping it 16:9 AR or zooming into a clip that is not 16:9 will ensure that it will fill the 16:9 frame of the editor. If the original clip was 16:9 then it will just ....zoom in :) and retain the same shape.

If you zoom in to a say..a 4:3 AR clip and set the effect to 16:9, the result will fill the screen. e.g....

On the left of the timeline is a 4:3 clip with an identical clip to the right of it. The second clip has been zoomed to 16:9 and is now full frame and enlarged The clip preview is of the original clip and the Sequence preview shows the 16:9 clip.

    aa.jpg

Using zoom in this way will ensure that all  the clips have the same 16:9 AR. Of course some of the image will be lost but the effect control will allow you to move the 16:9 rectangle around the frame so you can select the best area.

I can't think of a reason yet why you have your problem.  In short if all your clips/images are 16:9 (and preview correctly) and you export using one of the 16:9 formats then it should all be OK.

Although it may seem logical that you are losing some of the image when using zoom or crop etc., that doesn't make it any smaller volume-wise. The clip remains the same and is not made "faster"

  2. Hi again

A Scrolling text can be of pretty well any length. I have checked this out with a text line of over 2000 characters and it scrolls quite normally. The text clip however must be of sufficient duration to enable the scroll to proceed at a readable speed.

  3. Hi

Do you mean something like this......

    aa.jpg

...Where the sound track (or any soundtrack) scrolls along under the video? If so the answer is yes..but it's slightly involved and requires a screen copy program like o-cam to do it. It is also possible probably using the screen capture option in VP.

    • Open VP and load the audio, or load the video that has the audio.
    • Adjust the track sizes to show them a wide as possible (vertically)
    • Place the red cursor line at the start
    • Open the screen copying app and adjust the area to record so that it surrounds a roughly 16:9 section of the audio waveform...
    • bb.jpg
    • Start the screen recorder (In this example this is O-Cam
    • Start the video playing. The sound track will scroll from right to left and be recorded as a 16:9 video. Note the recording rectangle is adjusted to the size of a video track thumbnail to obtain a rough 16:9
    • Reopen VP and load the main video to Video track 1 and the soundtrack video to video track 2
    • Adjust the tracks to synch (the copy will also have the same sound as the main video but on audio track 2).
    • Scale and Position the audio video on Video Track 2 so it appears at the bottom of the screen (PIP)...
    • ccc.jpg

When played the PIP of the recorded audio track will scroll along beneath the video. As both tracks have been synched (as seen above) and both will play it is a simple matter of muting one.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Hi

Can't see why that should happen as If the original preview played OK then the vpj file should reconstruct your project just as it was. What format were the photos?

If they were 16:9 vertical images then you could add a Letterbox effect to each setting the AR to 16:9. This makes them the same as the video clips. Export the project as a 16:9 video. See if that works.

  5. Hi

    VP 8.67

There does seem to be a bug with the stand alone Shake effect. Using two clips on the timeline and applying the effect to the second clip using the default values (10,10,0,10), it seems to work OK. Replaying from the previous clip and it still works OK.

If, however you think the default values are too vigorous and decide to change the 10 to say, a 5  the effect is lost and Shake does not play any longer.  The effect does not appear to play even if the parameters are altered before the clips are played.

My conclusion at the moment is that the effect will not work except for the default settings. Even if you alter the values back to 10,10,0,10 the effect is still lost.

As you seem to have it working check out if it STILL works if the parameters are altered slightly.

  6. HI

If you set the font size to 1 you can easily visualize all your stated text in a single line.........Centrally placed.....

    aa.jpg

Of course there is one main drawback......:o    as you can see above.:D

Increasing the font to a readable size then all the text can still be incorporated but must be split over several lines....

    bb.jpg

A single line of text , to be readable will depend on the font chosen and the character size deemed to be best readable. With Arial the maximum line length is about 75 characters at font size 4.

  7. Hi

If you are using the Shake option in the Old Film effect then make sure you have ticked the Enable box otherwise you won't see the effect. I am presuming that you are referring to the "extra features" of this option (spots/lines/flicker etc.)

As far as I can see the normal  Shake EFFECT  is working here in VP8.71

  8. Hi Rontil

".... 8.47 on a Windows deskktop PC, and loaded just the one image....."

As I mentioned above an image (jpg etc.) dropped into the bin and placed on the timeline and then previewed in Clip Preview will not show the Brackets and controls under the window.........e.g.......

    aa.jpg

If a Video Clip is used however, then you should see the brackets and buttons......e.g....

    bb.jpg

I have expanded the Clip Preview window in these examples to full width.

Have you checked this out with a Video Clip  (mp4 etc.)?

  9. Hi

Being able to set a frame marker fixed to a point on a particular track to enable clips on different tracks to line up is a suggestion recently made to NCH and is something they may get round to looking at. In the meantime you could try lining up specific peaks in the sound tracks.

Another approach that you could try  is ..

Once you have the videos set up to play on the same sequence view...e.g. in a split screen,

    • Set a bookmark at the start point on upper track (it wont be fixed to the track however )
    • Now play the main track to the required point.
    • Set another Bookmark.
    • Move the red cursor line out of the way.
    • Grab the main track at the bookmark position and drag it to the first bookmark.
    • If this is done carefully the clips (L and R) should be in synch.

  10. Hi

Yes..That seems odd. Your image  does show the Clip preview window at full width and the Start/End buttons and brackets are not showing..

This is the equivalent image for VP 8.71 .....

    bb.jpg

...As you can see the brackets and buttons are present.

One thought is that you are using an image (not a clip) that you have renamed Sequence 1(????) This will not show the brackets in clip preview but even this doesn't match your result so it's a bit odd. Try thelatest incarnation and see if things change.

  11. Hi

Here, with VP 8.71  simple text placed on an upper track exported as an mp4 perfectly. It may seem a daft question but was your text placed on an overlay track?  If everything was correctly set up and it won't show then an upload as Borate suggests would be useful. (Something short that you find the problem with.

    Nat

  12. Hi

Here's an alternative which you might find simpler...

Place a blank black clip on the overlay track at the end of the the clip to fade out.Line it up so it finishes at the join.  Let's assume you want a two second fade. Make the duration of the blank clip 2 seconds.

Click the f on the blank clip and make the fade in duration 2 seconds.

....and that's it. Time line will look like this....

    aa.jpg

The blank will fade in to black and will stop at the clip join on track 1  If you want to use it again then just copy/[aste the blank clip to another join.

  13. Hi

Check that you have your Clip Preview window at full width. (Note  that brackets are not shown underthe Sequence preview window.)

If you are using dual preview displays then the Clip Preview window will need to be pulled out to the right using the small vertical white bar between the displays. This will then reveal the  Set Start and Set End control brackets.

The brackets should be visible all the time if you have only a single preview showing

  14. Hi

I think you may need to supply a little more detail. Are you loading an mp3 (audio file) to Videopad?  What version of VP are you using? Does the fault occur when the file is played in VP or is it happening with the exported file?  Are you altering the speed of the audio file?

And finally...How do you manage to type an upside down question mark???  :)

  15. Hi

Note this thread is 2 years old and there have been many changes. This does not happen with VP 8.45   You can move (drag) any text clips having a Fade-in (f) and Fade-out (transition Fade) and both fades are retained. (Later versions are the same but have other problems which hopefully are being dealt with)  VP 8.45 seems reasonably error free.

Try the latest version if you wish....  https://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/versions.html

    or install  VP 8.45....   http://oldversiondownload.com/

Keep your current vpsetup.exe and license code and simply install your choice over your current installation.

  16. Hi Mike

When you open the text editor,  whatever is shown (by default it is "Title Text"), will automatically and immediately be placed on Video Track 2 at the cursor position. like this....

    aaa.jpg

There will also be a clip of your text placed in the image clip bin. It has a transparent background shown by the chequered area. You can now swipe (select) and edit your text (the existing default text will be overwritten. You can alter the position of the text, its colour, font, shadow and outline etc even scrolling behavior using the controls in the edit window. The clip on the timeline and the one in the Image clip bin will update automatically as you change things. You can see this happen in the Sequence preview window (If the cursor line passes through the text clip...

    bbbb.jpg

The text will automatically play over any video on Track 1.

There should be no need to use  the text Image in the bin  again unless you want another identical text elsewhere. You can simply drag the already placed text clip along the track to a new position on that track or drag it to another higher track or lower track. In general keep it on the track VP sends it to. (Usually Track 2) as dragging it to others will insert it with undesirable results.

If you want to further edit the text you made, left click it and re-open the editor - swipe the text you wrote and make your changes.

  17. Hi

This really ought to be a new thread.

When you say "captions" I assume you mean Text or Titles. Adding Titles or text is pretty straight forward.

    e.g. To add text....

    • Move the red cursor line to the position where you want the text to appear. The text will normally appear when complete on Video Track 2
    • Click Add Text . There are several options but select Simple text Overlay.  for testing this. (The other's work in a similar way)  This opens a Text editor window with a default text (Title Text) similar to this...
    • aa.jpg
    • Swipe the default text (select) It will highlight  blue
    • Use the controls to set the Font/characteristics of the text/colour and presence or otherwise of a Shadow and its colour.
    • Tick the box if an outline is required and then choose a colour. You can set the basic position and justification of the text by clicking the corresponding boxes on the right. and also set basic animation.
    • As you make these changes the Sequence preview window will show the result and a text image will appear in the Clip bin.
    • When you close the editor the text clip will appear on the overlay track (usually Video Track 2) at the cursor position. Treat this like any other image.

The text image will not interfere with any clip below it. You can position it where you wish by dragging it along the track and extend or shorten it by dragging the ends in/out. You can apply effects to it like Fade/Position &etc. Treat each text/title as an independent clip.

Effects can be added to clips and at their simplest will act for the full duration of the clip.

To add an effect to part of a clip you generally need to use keyframes. If you are not sure how to use these come back onto the forum.

  18. Hi

Your project, (presumably the one you say had the defect) loaded and previewed OK here. The section around 12.415 showed no banding or other defect during preview with VP 8.45 on a slower Vista machine  There are a few blank (black) frames between shots of some of the participants in the first 15 seconds and some shots are a little soft,  but no pixellation was seen as shown by your image.

Was this defect always seen on your system in THIS uploaded file and in the SAME place when you play it?

  19. Hi EtoDem

We are doing our best! :)    But, not particularly clear on what you mean by banality. (something so lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring.)

OK...You have a clip (or image)  loaded to the timeline.  It is a bog standard 16:9 clip that fills the frame. (1920 x 1080   or 1280 x 720 etc.)..........

What do you want to do with it?   Please explain your steps and what you hope to end up with.

At the very least a zoom effect (a single effect) will achieve all (or most) of what you seem to want.I don't think one step is a huge number:)

  20. HI

    "......This is ridiculous......."

No it;s not.  It explains how a cropped image can be made full screen using zoom (subject to its AR)

"... All we want is a simple crop and save cropped area..."

    OK There is no problem......

Click FX and crop your image/clip  and then export it.!   It will have borders.   But it seems you want JUST the cropped area to export.......There are caveats to this and it depends on how you cropped it.

By default It will crop free-form unless you pick a particular AR from the list. Picking an AR of 16:9 will keep the cropped area the same shape as the screen. Other ARs will have different rectangular shapes which will not be that of the screen.

As you have cropped the image however, and done it either free-form or with a selected AR it will, logically now be smaller than the scree and  there will be black borders around it  These will export.    If that's what you are after then OK.  If not see below...

After cropping, the image area is  smaller than the screen area but you can use Scale to enlarge it. A 16:9 crop will Scale up to full screen with no problem and there will no black borders when you export.(Note A single 16:9 zoom effect will accomplish the same thing in one go)

A free-form crop will still have a border even if you scale it up to best fit. (You can't fit a square cropped image into a 16:9 rectangular screen) If you don't want borders and you still want it to fill the screen despite the image not being 16:9, then you can use Scale to stretch it. (Note that again a single free-form Zoom will accomplish this in one step)

  21. Hi

Did you swipe the displayed text before you clicked the colour box?

You can change the colour box and it will alter to the selected colour but if you haven't swiped (selected) the text in the edit box iprior to doing that ts colour will remain unchanged.

e.g. Text not swiped (It remains yellow) but text colour box is green.

  22. Hi

Well, we will have to wait and see. In the old days of film the editors I used had a button and a lever attached to a needle that pierced the frame where splicing was required. The film was taken out of the editor to be cut and spliced separately. The frames in a movie were ...

    1) Quite small and 2) Pretty identical to each other;  so a hole was easy to find and position in the splicer. Another version I used had a similar  feature but the button printed a + on the frame.

  23. Hi Neale

If the white bars are dragged as high as possible (making the previews as small as possible {Too smallactually}) the maximum number of tracks you make visible at the largest width in the space available is 7 tracks.

3 Video tracks + 4 Audio Tracks  or  h4 Video Tracks and 3 Audio Tracks. In each case the hidden track can be accessed by scrolling at the right.

    aa.jpg

Above...4 Audio and 3 Video (scroll up the video tracks to see the 4th)

There is obviously a limited amount of space available for the tracks  to be displayed and scrolling them has to occur at some point. VP doesn't have an option to enlarge a particular track in situ but any track can be selected and displayed in the clip preview window in more detail.  More tracks can be made visible by clicking the down chevron at the left end which will make the tracks narrower
