Some modems make louder noticeable clicks when performing some operations, and others are as quiet as a mouse. Sometimes the modem has settings to adjust the audio level of the modem card's internal speaker but in cases where it is the physical off-hook/on-hook operation that is causing a mechanical sound, there won't be a way to avoid this. I played with every setting on the modem so I don't think I can fix the noise on this modem and I don't have time to search for a great modem so I'm looking into other solutions.
