'Change clip speed' deletes 2nd half of clip. HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm experiencing a weird problem with Videopad 13.63:

I want to make a slow motion video, so I changed the clip speed to 50% of every clip in my timeline and saved the project.

Everything works fine so far, and the project also plays the clips in slow motion. But when I save the project, close my pc and return the next day and open the project to work on the project again, all the clips I changed the clip speed of are cut in half and the last half of the clip is just gone. So now the clips in my timeline don't line up anymore and there are many gaps between the clips.

I can't lengthen the end of the clips that are cut in half to their original size, because the second half of the clips just don't exist anymore.

I also waited until all clips have loaded before playing, that doesn't have any effect. I also exported the faulty timeline to a movie, to see if the gaps are actually in the exported movie and unfortunately they are.

I know the option of 'Close gap in track/sequence' when right clicking, but that just glues the first half of the clip onto the next clip, so I still miss the second half of the first clip...

I have no idea what causes this. Can anyone help me? What can I do to avoid this?

Cheers!

Steven

Let's see what's going on here.  Please share the project, as it correctly appears on the timeline.  Just follow these steps closely and someone will take a look...

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  Right-click the file and click SHARE. When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Hi Borate,

Thanks for your reply and for taking the time to take a look at this! I appreciate that!

The problem is that the only time the project appears normal on the timeline is when I create the project and save it. If I re-open after closing it for the first time, the timeline gets weird. If I create a project with only one video file and I make that one slow motion and re-open it, everything works fine... If I make a project with five clips and make them slomo it doesn't work.

Because my original project is way too big, I've created a small project with just five random clips which I've made slomo (50% speed). I've tested it and again the gaps appear after re-opening in Videopad, so I recreated the same five-clip project, made them slomo, saved it and didn't yet re-open it for you to see what happens.

Here's the link to a OneDrive file:

Thank you very much! I'm very curious what you will see.

Cheers,

Steven

Thanks for sharing.  It's a bug in 13.63.

If it was a registered release, 13.67 seems to have fixed it.  Download and install.   Ignore any virus warnings.  Your license should be good.

Or update to the latest version...

For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee is required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.  If there's an issue, you can always revert.

If all clips are selected with <ctrl-A), then the 50% speed change applied, it will affect all the selected clips.
