Video exporting in black and white with weird artifacts

Hi everyone,

I've been using Videopad for years and this is the first time I've had this issue come up.

Today I was editing a video in VP and parts of the video suddenly started appearing in black and white with weird ditko dot like artifacts with random colors.

I finished the project just thinking it was an issue that would go away but when I exported the videos the coloring errors and artifacts were still there.

So to fix the issue I first tried updating to the latest version of VP but the issue was still apparent.

Then I tried uninstalling vp and when that changed nothing I uninstalled again clicking the option to remove all data and still nothing happened.

Lastly I started a new project and put in some different footage to see if there was an issue with the original mp4 file and the same issue showed up.

The weirdest part is I do reaction content to animated shows and this issue doesn't seems to have an effect on the animated show mp4s i add to the project only the real footage I've recorded.

I've attached the project file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z1uD53y7Tzu8TdOS0ORNj9uoIN1ToKqQ/view?usp=drive_link

the exported video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14nWHotz7YaJM-sSW5c18pvq-KP2wsNLq/view?usp=drive_link

and some screenshots of how it appears on my timeline: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VMYs5v6HdvP2373izqCcwnVuZeeg7Mty/view?usp=drive_link

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ltaoLxS9qP68Y4vTOYDedb4ZPJ3PLU_r/view?usp=drive_link

This is extremely frustrating and puzzling for me and I'd really appreciate some help or insight if anyone has any.

Thank You!

Go to OPTIONS | ADVANCED and at the bottom GPU area change to None (CPU Only), and see if that makes a difference.

We can't check out your links because they are restricted.  Click on SHARE and change them to "anyone with link can view."

Be sure that the project has been saved in this manner.  Simply uploading the VPJ file is of little use.

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  Right-click the file and click SHARE. When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Hey there

I tried changing it to none(CPU Only) and I still got the same issue.

I followed your instructions and uploaded the files to google drive https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/124Xm4KCBeNans_YD_ITRC6gns2jXJjan?usp=sharing

I went ahead and shot a new video since the one I had in the previously shown video project was 2GB. The problems is still present here.

An interesting observation I had was that yesterday to be able to fully delete videopad I booted my computer into safe mode. While in safe mode i noticed the black and white and the weird artifacts weren't present on the timeline so I tried to export in safe mode and the video came out without any issues. However it took about 10x the length it would normally take to export a video.

Let me know if I need to provide anything else.

Can't spot anything amiss in your sample - either in preview or when exported.

Confirm that your video driver and Direct-X are up to date...  https://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/kb/1772.html

Install this release.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee is required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.  If there's an issue, you can always revert.

I checked if the video drivers were up to date using device manager and I ran DirectX and it shows no problems found.

Now the problem has gotten even worse. The black and white visual effects are still there but when i try to put a motion or effect on any point in the timeline the video completely desyncs from the audio. it's like every point on the timeline changes to a different point in the media its using. I don't know if that issues anyone has had before either. I dont understand how this issue can persist if I keep fully deleting the program. I even used revo uninstaller to make sure very last videopad file was gone before reinstalling and i'm using the latest version.

I got the error message "this version of the project file is not supported. Try to update Videopad to the latest version.

I also tried adding footage to a new project using this version of VP and it still show the black and white on the timeline

On this 16.02 version the desync issue isn't present and the black and white does go away after the video is fully processed so it is the most usable i've been able to get VP to so far so that's good. still would like to have it back working 100% normally.  And I'm still unable to open my project files.

If you have created a project with a very recent release that won't open on v16.02, let's see just the VPJ file (don't need the entire project).  We may be able to help.

Upload the file/s to a free server, such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, right-click the link and Share.  Copy the result and paste it here or to me in a Private Message via the mail envelope in the top-right corner of this forum.  When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view.

Ok here's the file. I made it on v16.08 https://drive.google.com/file/d/194NApp07G68C4SxlCetbH9GuIhpak6Yn/view?usp=sharing

Loading the clip worked but I still have tons of old projects that I need to access like this one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13B57plX3be84aiRwFuai3jeh74YCvT2m/view?usp=sharing.

How were you able to make the file accessible?

If the old projects were made on VP versions prior to 16.04 there shouldn't be an issue loading them into any VP release.

But, as you have seen, projects made with later releases may not be fully compatible.

Soon, a new release should solve the problems that you initially noted.  Keep an eye out.

In the interim, if you need a revised VPJ, as above, send me a personal message via the envelope at the top-right of this forum.

  • 3 months later...

Ok thank you!

I think I figured out what is triggering the aforementioned black and white with weird artifacts on the footage I add to the timeline. This problem has still been present for me on the footage I take on my Samsung camera and across multiple versions of videopad.

I went into my camera app settings and saw that the video format I've been shooting in is HVEC so I switched it to the other option H.264 and shot a quick video with that and just like that the issue wasn't present anymore. Can you look into fixing how HVEC videos are encoded on the newest version of videopad? Thank You!
