addressed How do I blank a strip at the bottom of my video

I have a video which I want to place a blue background strip along the bottom throughout the video and add my text commentary and notes.

I have tried adding a mask but not got anywhere.

What I want to do is blank existing subtitle area and edit my own .srt file which can be optionally added later.

I just want to add a blank blue box along the bottom slice of the screen throughout the video.

I am a total newbie and need guidance.

Place video on track 1

On the toolbar, click BLANK CLIP, choose a color and click ADD BLANK

Drag the blank to track two and extend it for the length of the sequence by dragging its right border

Click the FX button on the blank clip and add the CROP effect ... drag the top handle downward, to create the mask

Add a second BLUR effect to fuzz the edges of the blank clip

Import the subtitles
