Sound Device Error

I've never had any trouble with my foot pedal and now when I push it to play my audio, it gives me the following message:

Unable to start playback.

This might mean you do not have a sound card installed or the sound card is being used by another

application. Please check the Sound Device on the Playback tab of Settings.

I've not changed any settings and do not remember what this one was to begin with. The option it was on was "(Default Sound Out)". The only other option listed is "Modem #1 Line Playback". I do not have anything else running besides e-mail. I have a 4-hour depo due very soon and am desperate for help! Any ideas are welcome!!

I have the same problem with almost the exact error message as the first poster.

The machine I'm having trouble with has a Creative Audio PCI card installed - the drivers are reported by Windows as working fine, and other programs (like Windows Media Player) play files properly.

The driver is a WDM driver - so maybe that is what's causing the problem?
