Video out of sync with Audio

Here's the issue:

I import a .mp4, nothing fancy. I play the video for a little bit and then the video and audio go out of sync from each other. The waveforms of audio are displaying the sound accurately, but the video is just not even close to being in sync. There's no consistent point where the video goes out of sync for each file. It just happens once in the beginning when it's put on the timeline.

My solution was to just offset the video manually with a cut and some dragging of the audio to the right spot to line it up. Now that I've come back to my project, most of the video is completely out of sync. I've spent weeks working on this project that I'm getting paid for and never knew the software would just un-sync further and ruin the project, so I'm quite frustrated.

The worst part is that some of the video files are in sync and others are not. I edited 8 different .mp4 files and only 3 of them were in sync when I came back to the project, but I've had to realign the audio with the video for all these .mp4 files when I first imported them onto the timeline. All videos are fine when I open them with Windows Media Player and VLC. No problems there. The videos don't play in sync in the Preview Clip window or on the timeline, but again, they play fine in WMP and VLC. This should mean it's a VideoPad problem.

I've tried right clicking the audio and restoring the linked clip (since that would make sense), but it's still the same video clip and the video isn't lining up. I've tried clearing the cache (I had 25GB of cache files), but still NO difference at all. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and made sure I had the latest version, but the video is still not in sync at all.

Please confirm what version is being used.  Look at the start-up screen or the left-bottom of the Videopad window.  What are the PC specs:  CPU/GPU/RAM?

If you take the time to upload a file or two that's out, someone here will likely solve the problem.  The process doesn't take long, can be private and isn't difficult...

Upload the file/s to a free server, such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, get a shared (public) link, copy the link and paste it here or to me in a Private Message via the mail envelope in the top-right corner of this forum.  When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view."

What files exactly am I uploading to a drive and where do I find them? I'm using the latest version of v10.52 and my PC specs are as follows...
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F CPU @ 2.90GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
RAM: 16.0GB

My computer has never struggled with running the software.

The mp4 files that go out of sync in Videopad are the ones needed.  Upload a few.

In the Videopad bin (top-left), right-click on a file that has the issue and click Open Location.  Windows Explorer (the file manager) opens and lists the folder containing the file.  When uploading to a server, use the file manager to locate that file.

Another approach is to upload the entire project folder, which will contain all your source files and the VPJ control file.  Just follow these steps carefully...

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

A single file was out of sync, so the project wasn't downloaded.  Under analysis.

In the interim, Handbrake (free) seems able to repair the file for editing in VP.  Conversion to 30fps MKV format succeeded quickly here, using H264 NVidia encoding at 30 fps.
