Windows 98 Load Problem

I installed Express Scribe on my Windows 98 laptop. The installation appeared to work. The foot pedals installed correctly. I could play the welcome message with the foot pedals.

 

When I try to load a .wma file, I see the line that shows the details of the file, but I never see the progress bar that indicates the file is actually loading. Also, I can tell it never loaded because the Duration column shows 00:00. And nothing happens when I try to play the file.

 

Any ideas where to start to fix this problem?
