  1. The addition of DirectX did change the behavior of Express Scribe. Now, I don't get an error message. The file shows up in the list, but it has a duration of 0:00.
  2. Googling suggested that I might not have DirectX installed, so I did that. It didn't help. I also tried loading a .wav file. That also didn't help. I didn't mention the version of Express Scribe I'm running: 5.13 Thanks.
  3. I have Win2k running in VirtualBox. I have Express Scribe installed and running. I have the foot pedal working. I can play the Welcome file. When I try to load a WMA file I get this error message: Open audio file failed. Where do I start to figure this out? Thanks.
  4. Currently looking for working transcription software for Linux

  5. I just upgraded my anti-virus software from AVG 9 to AVG 2011. It reports the following: File name: C:\PROGRAM FILES\NCH SWIFT SOUND\SCRIBE\SCRIBE Threat name: Win32/Genetik Security level: (four red boxes) Category: Trojan Description: This is a known Trojan/Backdoor. It is recommended that you quarantine this threat. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I uninstall Express Scribe and re-install a fresh download? I'm running Windows XP, Service Pack 3 Thanks for any advice.
  6. I installed Express Scribe on my Windows 98 laptop. The installation appeared to work. The foot pedals installed correctly. I could play the welcome message with the foot pedals. When I try to load a .wma file, I see the line that shows the details of the file, but I never see the progress bar that indicates the file is actually loading. Also, I can tell it never loaded because the Duration column shows 00:00. And nothing happens when I try to play the file. Any ideas where to start to fix this problem? Thanks.
  7. I've been using Express Scribe on my Windows laptop. I'd like to use it on my Linux desktop (Ubuntu LTS (10.04). I found the two options for Linux installation and tried both. Express Scribe for Linux (GTK Native) installed and ran, but couldn't see .wma files. In other words, I was able to navigate to the directory containing my audio files, but the loader window only displayed other directories -- no files. Also, it was an earlier version, and I'm used to the current version. So... Next, I followed the instructions for installing the Windows version using Wine. The program installed and runs. It can see the audio files I'm trying to load, but won't load them. It did successfully play the Welcome message, so the audio works. The first problem is that the Load Dictation File(s) window opens with the file area mostly blank. If I click on various places where lines are supposed to be I can then see the files, Most of the buttons at the bottom of the window are missing, too, until I click on them. When I select a file the Load button appears. But when I click on it, I get an Error window that says, "Opening audio file failed." That file now shows up in the Express Scribe file list, but the control buttons at the bottom of the window are grayed out whether I have the file selected or not. I can select and delete the files from Express Scribe. Also, when I try to set up the foot pedal (Infinity IN-USB-1) by clicking on Options > Controller, with the "Enable foot pedal controller" check box checked, and then clicking on "Controller setup wizard..." I get the message "No plug and play controllers detected." Do I need to do something so Wine can see the USB controller? Do I need a .dll file that I don't have? If so, can I just copy the one from my Windows laptop? And if so, which one? Any ideas on where to start to solve these two problems would be greatly appreciated.
