Can no longer record

I had limited success recording some time ago, using a Trillium REC-ADPT-LC. There was too large a difference in recorded volume between the transmitted and the received signals.

Nevertheless, I tried to use it a couple of times but had to reselect sources each time. I can't remember what the settings were.

 

I have just bought and connected a Trillium REC-ADPT-USB-LC, since their propaganda says its a.l.c. balances send and receive levels.

 

I have selected C-Media Wave Device for both Record and Play, with Wave as the record channel, but nothing is recorded.

 

It's hard to believe that there's anything wrong with either the software or hardware, which leaves my choice of settings. But what am I doing wrong?
