fredblow
This is almost certainly a dumb enquiry - please excuse my newbieness.... I have just downloaded Express Scribe, but all my attempts at making it actually generat text from audio are failing miserably. I am running WindowsXP Pro SP3, with Microsoft Speech Recognition (and the default profile) installed. My speakers are fed via USB, and USB Audio is selected as the nominated Sound Device. I have ticked 'Enable speech recognition' in the speech to text drop down menu. I am trying to start with the most basic task - in the hope that my text will appear in the Notes window. I click in the Notes window, then click on the Start button (or press F9). Then I hear the audio playing OK, but no text appears. I have tried this with the NCH welcome message as well as a PCM WAV file of my own. What am I missing?

Speech to text conversion is done when the audio is loaded into Scribe, not when you play it. Also, it takes a while, especially for long audio. So the steps are: Enable speech recognition Load a new audio file Wait The text will appear in the Notes, prepended with "-- Speech to Text". Many thanks for that. I have now seen real words appear in the notes window. It would not have helped that in my earlier trial, the spoken words were preceded by some organ music... Well, I DID suggest that my enquiry was probably dumb. In all honesty, the words that were generated (by the MS speech recognition engine ?) bear very little relationship to what was actually said, but presumably NCH cannot be blamed for that. I have a similar one; I did exactly what you said to do--which was to load a WAV file for dictation and then wait, the text never pasted to the notes board. I enabled speech recognition first--and selected the user file. I also have no play back if I hit the > play arrow. Let me know what can cause this--thanks. Damian Lettie
I also have no play back if I hit the > play arrow. Please check the value in the Duration column. If it's zero then the audio hasn't loaded properly.
