  1. Hi all. I am using VP version 8.63 I have a FX clip that is causing a shadow on the exported footage that is not there on the preview. The shadow is on a portion of the screen that close to but not within the area of the FX clip. The shadow slowly extends from the bottom of the area containing the FX clip and darkens a rectangle below it. I produced the FX clip with a polygon mask, key frames and a transparency setting. The polygon mask does not move over the shadow area. .Below are three files, one with the steps track which contains the FX clip and the shadow, one without the steps track which contains the FX clip and the shadow and the backed up VP file. Any help will be much appreciated. 2. Before I do, and I will try the release, is it going to take me back to 8.65 which will then keep crashing and inviting me to download the new version 8.71 with it's own exe file which when run only installs 8.65. Ground hog day. Do you feel like a HCH lab rat? Thank you for your patience and tenacity. Regards Dave PS He He 8.63 what a good guess. Actually what I will do is continue with 8.71 until I have finished working on the project because it is more stable than 8.63 then if a new version has not been produced I will use 8.63 to export the file. Again Thank you for your invaluable help.
  3. Hi @borate I tried the different export setting as you advised and it did not change the outcome. I haven't tried the green screen yet, I have to learn that process first, but I am confused that you say you can not see the black screen during the video playback. When I open the top link to Google drive and play the clip without downloading it the black screen is definitely there. I have done three screen shots which you can see in this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VElYYjz9X5-F-EmwWpIOPWhS4G8-IofH/view?usp=sharing Regards Dave
  4. Hi @borate What you have shown me in "look Here" is exactly what I am trying to achieve and what I see in preview but not what I see in the exported version. "In the FX box for the sequence the background is transparent?" When I click on the FX button on the Grey portal clip and the FX dialogue box opens I can see the portal opening and closing by moving the red slider/cursor position. The background in the clip preview screen is a checker board patten of light and darker grey squares, as it is when I have applied a transparency mask and unchecked the " mask inside box" for other FX clips. I am not trying to apply any FX's to the portal clip I am just looking. From your suggestions with my last export problem my PC's drivers are fully up to date as is the version of Windows 10 that I am using. Did you look at and play the top clip of the two above. it shows exactly what I am getting on export? I have tried exporting mp4 1080 and am still getting a black screen while the portal is clip is running. Exporting the Grey Portal clip as mp4 and using the mp4 file in the main sequence did not work. The background on the exported clip is black whereas the background on the png files I downloaded are clear. If you look at them in the images bin you can see the checker board behind them. Regards Dave
  5. Hi all I need help again. I have downloaded a FX file of a "portal" which is a series of png files that I have loaded into VP as a series of images that I have then loaded into a sequence. When I run the sequence in VP preview it works correctly. When I export the VP file as a MP4 file and play it back the imported FX fully covers the background as a black screen, whereas in the preview only the portal is visible. In the FX box for the sequence the background is transparent. I am using VP version 8.71 https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1K1rln9zIUIIp7spABYVNfdzV-9amsnOB?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sjOsipI8It6MdNEvozzKHbN7echAqUDF?usp=sharing The backed up VP file and the mp4 file are above. Can anyone help with this please.
  6. Thank you @borate Works perfectly now. If you passed the post to others for their input please thank them for me. I think I now know the mistake I made, although I do not understand the underlying concepts within VP that caused the problem. The clips in the "Portal to Ground" sequence are not snapshots but replications of a split clip which I could not drag to the length I wanted it. That is why I replicated it. Regards Dave
  7. Hi @borateI tried your solution but could not get it to work. I don't fully understand your advice. In your first line you say "Open effects for the shot and Save as effect chain template." When you say "shot" do you mean the single snapshot I took and replicated to make the sequence? If I am only working with a single snapshot which is in effect a single frame how do I make it long enough to show the movement from sky to ground. I applied you advice to the clip that I call from portal to ground and as I say nothing changed. Also by the time I came home from work the demo you supplied had disappeared. Regards Dave

  9. Hi People I have masked an image of myself and isolated it using effect outside mask and transparency set to 0. I then applied a clear mask effect and then a scale effect setting the scale functions, vertical and horizontal at 0 keeping the tick in the "keep aspect ratio" box and applied a key frame. I then moved the cursor to the end of the clip and set the scale factors to 1 and again applied a key frame. The scale factors did not automatically change so I had to remove the keep scale factors tick and set both vertical and horizontal factors manually then re-ticking the "keep aspect ratio"box. All other settings in the scale FX where left at 0 In the FX preview and the main preview windows the scaling works perfectly with the scaled polygon following my outline as it scaled up from 0 to 1. I then exported the project and the scaling did not work correctly. In the exported version the vertical size increased with the horizontal size staying correct. Has anyone come across this problem before and overcome it. The VP file and exported footage are here in Google Drive. TV PAL crop and zoom MP4 25fps https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vzQolmAE2mhr4_9yQeMQm0ZXUyuY_xTx?usp=sharing Regards Dave PS Please accept my apologies for not responding sooner but I was away from home. OK The video was produced using versions 8.45 & 8.67. I am now on version 8.71 and have tried exporting the video but I still have the same problem. I have changed the permissions in Google drive to allow anyone with the link to view the files. I have also played around with the export settings, using crop and zoom which completely messed up the positioning of other FX tracks and adjusting the resolution to 10920 x 1080 which is the resolution of my camera. This sorted out the positioning of the polygon mask but then produced a different problem of not playing all of the tracks. I also tried exporting as a portable video file but this did not change the outcome. Regards Dave I have altered the permissions and added extra clips and included the info on versions by editing the original post.
  10. Thanks @borate I had the same problem and it is now solved. As a note this only started after my last upgrade. I am starting to feel like we are NCH's lab rats.
  11. Hi @Nationalsolo & @borate Thank you for you invaluable help. After another 5 frustrating sessions I have finally got the effect that I was after. I think I may have added a couple of nodes by mistake as I was adjusting the polygons. But on export the clip runs smooth. If you want when I finally get the project finished I will post it in here. Thanks Again Dave.
  12. @Nationalsolo Thank you 15 mins will be a dream, I have probably spent a full day on this already, just going round in circles. Here we again. 😎
  13. Hi @phil_the thanks for the suggestion. According to Nationaosolo (see above) when using key frames in VP you can only use the node points that are set up in the first key frame. Dave
  14. Hi Nat I did use key frames. If you look at the animation line you will see a small gap in the key frame markers. The software put that gap there not me. It's after that gap that the image and the key frames stop lining up. Regards Dave
  15. Thank you @Nationalsolo so is that whet is causing the shadow as shown in the above? It's going to make my project difficult.
  16. Hi @borate & @Nationalsolo Sorry I didn't realise the link was for a preview page in Onedrive The link below is correct. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AkcfGiX_ZUvwbqgPt6cMfu9kDAQ?e=InUiH8 Regards Dave
  17. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AkcfGiX_ZUvwbzxJ1tVgQOvF2ak Hi @Nationalsolo This post was originally created because I had a different problem which is shown on the clip above. I have taken on board your comments about not deleting node points in key frames. If you play the attached clip you will see that at key frame positions 2:40.771 to 2:40.804 in the FX window the frame moves but the image does not. After this point the video has moved out of sync to the polygon masks so a shadow appears on the playback. Again my process of producing this short section of video is:- 1) open a polygon mask at video cursor position 1.482 which equates to 2:40.705 in the FX window. 2) add key frame 3) adjust mask in full screen 4) exit full screen 5) set feather to .1 and make effects apply outside the mask 6) apply transparent effect set to 100% 7) save project, in case VP crashes 8 move frame to next position by using the next frame button on the timeline and repeat steps 2,3,4,7 and 8 Because of the work involved I have stopped the key frame production at 2:40936 until I find out how to get over this problem. Can you help with this please?
  18. Again, thank you @Nationalsolo
  19. Thank you @Nationalsolo After, I would say, 10 hours in total of hitting my head against this problem, it's good to know it's not me. Regards Dave
  20. Thank you Did you look at the youtube video I started this thread with? The effect is the super hero lands and the impact causes props to move/fall over. He then runs out of shot. As I run forward I want to be running in front of the moving bench. So my problem is why do the key frames change? 1) Am I doing it wrong, I don't think so because I used the same technique to animate the moving bench? 2) Is there a checkbox somewhere that I have inadvertently turned on or off which governs how the key frames work? 3) Is it a bug? Who can I ask to find the answer? Regards Dave
  21. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AkcfGiX_ZUvwatIwsHXKkcgWqRk?e=hAYkHx I hope this has worked. The process I have followed is 1) From cursor position 1.482 which is the start of the top clip I left clicked on the top clip FX button. 2) I opened the polygon mask. 3) I applied a key frame. 4)I adjusted the polygon shape. As this was just for this help forum I only made the polygon a rough shape. 5) I adjusted the feather to 0.1, changed the application to outside the mask and applied a 100% transparency effect. 6) I moved the cursor one frame by using the button on the preview window. 7) I clicked add key frame and adjusted the shape and position of the polygon mask. 8 I saved the project in case VP crashed again 9) I repeated steps 6 to 8 for the next 24 frames. 10) I then checked the position and shape of the polygon masks by starting at cursor position 1.482 which is 2:40.705 in the FX window by moving the cursor along the animation line and they where all as I had made them. 11) I then played the clip and it did not work as I had set it up, on checking the shape of the polygon masks they had all changed from being big shapes that fully encompassed me to small masks that only cover a part of my outline. I hope someone can help as this is driving me batty.
  22. Hi borate I'm using version 8.56
  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKyXZDDuA7I&t=19s I am trying to copy this effect. In my version after I land I move across in front of a prop which I have placed on its own track. Below this prop track I have placed a track of me landing. I have then copied this track, of me landing, and placed it exactly over the other two ensuring that it is exactly aligned with the bottom track. I have then key framed the top track of me landing and applied a polygon mask over my legs when they pass in front of the prop, using the apply outside the mask function and 100% transparency. I have done this for every frame, 24 in total. As I step from frame to frame I come to a position when the cursor moves 33 points but the image does not change. If I then check the playback I find that the polygon key frame is following the movement of the top track but the bottom track is now out of sync with the top track so I am seeing a shadow of the bottom track. Can you help me with this? Regards Dave.
  24. Thanks @Nationalso I had already found the link you showed me, and as you say it does not really help me. Regards Dave
