  1. I've uploaded the VP project (EndCardsTestNarration) and narration (.wav) files, plus the generated .mp4 output to this location: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4owslf2e9g0tamh/AACi3ik8zF_u3RyJvpVMyQ1aa?dl=0 The audio when playing in VP sounds as I would expect; the generated audio in the .mp4 file sounds clipped. This only happens when using a narrated source, not a video input file, I've found. I'm generating the output at 25fps YouTube HD 1920 x 1080, custom quality of 8192 bps and audio at 128k (these settings have been used for the past 12 months). Can you hear the distortion in my generated .mp4 file? Does your generated .mp4 file sound the same? I've double-checked all the microphone input level settings. Remember that I'm still recording video using the same audio settings using OBS and everything is as it always was, just fine.
  2. "Tested a narrated export (mp4) here and results matched those in VP preview." In that case I will have to experiment further, perhaps it's a 4.58 change. Remember that I do this sort of thing several times a week (narrate, that is) and this is the only time I've had a problem. I will follow your guidance and if no luck send you the project (only 30 seconds long) with my generated output to see if you can repeat it or tell me what's going on!
  3. I don't understand this: I've created a short 30 second video which consists of some text and audio narration (created by recording my voice within VP). Sounds fine in VP but when I export it (with exactly the same settings as I always have done) it sounds distorted as though it's clipping (even if I speak really, really quietly). If I record a video using OBS and import that and then export it (as above) it's fine. But narrated audio in VP always sounds awful even though it plays fine within VP. Using version 4.58 in Windows.I've used the Record > Narrate often and it's always been fine up until now. Using 128kbps quality, 25fps for the video, 8192 bit rate (as always for YouTube). Anybody got any ideas? (I guess it will only take you a minute to try and duplicate this).
  4. Thanks SO MUCH for the replies guys, I shall immediately try the suggestions out. Thank goodness you had already anticipated stuck-in-the-muds like me who just like it the way it was!!!
  5. Since 4.58 the Cross Fade video effect does something weird with the audio, so that if I delete a small portion of the video (that contains the unwanted word "erm" in it) when I cross fade the two clips (which I've done a zillion times in other versions) I now get an echo of that unwanted "erm" not just once but TWICE in the cross-faded clip - even though I have removed that section. Previous versions did not seem to do anything with the audio on Cross Fade - it is, after all, a VIDEO effect and whilst you MAY want audio to be cross faded too this should be optional. As it is I'm having huge problems editing my latest video - I may even have to revert to a previous version until this gets sorted. Also it now prompts me whether to MOVE the clip or extend the video. What was the old way? I don't want the video to move on the track as I have text overlays at various points that are overlaid at precise points. I'm pretty sure its the 'extend' option that does this weird thing with the audio, just my luck. Any ideas guys? BTW Merry Xmas! I guess I should be watching TV rather than editing my video on Xmas Day. Sad, isn't it?
  6. I'm using v4.48 too. Tricky to share the entire project, it's nearly half an hour of video. I will try again with a much smaller project and see whether I can replicate the issue here, if so I can send you that project. Leave with me for now.
  7. So I created my video in 3 sequences then joined them all up on a 4th sequence with some transitions between. The final sequence (clip) I changed the clip speed to 110%. So two of the sequences are 100% speed, last sequence is 110% speed. All is OK on the preview. When rendered (I did this TWICE to prove it) the sequence that was speeded up was out of sync with the audio by a second or two - I had to reduce the sequence / clip speed back to 100% and render a THIRD time and this was OK as expected (I use multiple sequences like this all the time but this was the first time I had increased the sequence speed of the entire sequence). Speeded up clips within a sequence have always worked fine - this was an entire sequence placed on another sequence so a bit different to what I have done before. Note that Preview was fine, only the generated HD 1080p audio was out of sync. Is this a bug or did I do something wrong?

    H.264 vs MPEG4?

I'm still using MPEG4 and the quality is fine and so is the file size. I use Custom Bitrate of 8192 and Audio bitrate of 128kbits. Thus, the Custom Quality is greyed out and not relevant. My YouTube videos look as they are supposed to (full HD) and I have now reclaimed about a month of my life in not having to wait for my video to be rendered using H.264 (since I started this thread). So all's well in VP-land. That damn "Generating Preview" message is still hounding me, however, but that's a different story (and thread)!
  9. I use fade out quite a bit and don't have the picture freezing issue you describe. Are you sure it's not still building the preview (which it may do time and time again until the developers fix it)?
  10. I'm ambivalent regarding this particular suggestion (although keeping to industry standards is always a good idea). What I'd like changed is the Spacebar (Preview) and CTRL-Spacebar (current clip) stop/start changed!
  11. Yes, but the windows were too small when doing that. As I have two monitors I just have the preview window on monitor and VP application on the other. Works better than the tabbed window situation for me.
  12. Reading the above thread again, I chose to 'undock' the preview window - ta dah! Now I get to see the clip preview (when I'm adding text, for example) and also can see the effect on the sequence main window, so I can judge position, transparency and so on. I'm not understating when I see this has made a massive improvement to my usability of VP. Previously I was constantly switching between the tabbed preview / sequence window. Sometimes it's the simplest of things...
  13. Hurrah, as I too found the "new" way of working not as good as the previous way. PS I tried to click the 'Like This' button above but was told that I've reached my quota for the day, which must mean my quota is zero. Sigh.
  14. I have sent you a message indicating where you can pick the file up from (all 4Gb of it). Good luck!
  15. I never really got to test out 4.44 as I had already done my editing for the week. But 4.45 was really dire with that 100% CPU problem (even after a reboot). Do you still want a VP project to test out on, I can upload a zip to Dropbox over this weekend for you, unless you already have one now. Let me know, I 'll pick up the post later.
  16. Sigh. With version 4.45 I've come back to my 40 minute video this morning to some quick editing to find that my CPU maxes out at nearly 100% and it's almost impossible to move the cursor without the CPU doing this. I'm trying to get on with editing but am finding I'm unable to do any actual editing as the CPU almost stops my entire machine now (even the mouse pointer). I've reduced the preview window resolution (again) but that had no effect. It's now at 768 x 432 @ 15fps which is as low as I can go without losing the detail I need to see in the preview. I'll clear the cache and reboot and see if that helps. Cache directory is on an SSD BTW. VP is only using 0.5Gb memory though so I don't think RAM or disk is the issue here. ----- I hour later. I don't know what issues VP version 4.45 is supposed to improve (and I did not know it was a beta version) but I've regressed to 4.44 as I found the CPU usage a real show stopper AND that Building Preview was no better than before. I hope I can now continue editing.
  17. Oh dear, v4.45 and I'm getting repeated Building Preview... Please Wait - even on clips that have no transitions between them (just a cut). So disappointing... I'll shut down VP and reload and see if it goes away. OK, after reloading VP, one particular cut / transition that refused to do anything other than give me that darned Building Preview message now just displays as you might expect. The question is, why did VP refuse to render the clip in preview mode before I reloaded VP (preview window just froze with that message) and why does it magically do it just fine after I reload? Next time I will check the memory usage of VP, perhaps there is a memory leak. I've been editing straight for about 30 minutes.
  18. I've taken this release now too but it's too soon to say (and two days too late after a marathon video making weekend!). I can't find the release notes for this (minor) release...
  19. Yes, I would certainly prefer to wait until it is 100% tested than discover 'undocumented features' an hour into making a video project that trashes my video project!
  20. Are those 'few days' up yet? I'm really keen to get this fix
  21. And you would not believe how urgently I want that fix. SO glad you guys are fixing it.
  22. I'm not jealous at all. Nope not one bit. Not! Not! Not! When those lottery numbers come up...
  23. I just tried this out and can confirm there is no automatic word wrapping - long lines just go off screen. Perhaps this should be an OPTIONAL feature eg a checkbox in a future release? Ironically, I don't want this feature as I fit text in very tightly sometimes and don't want text to jump to the next line automatically - so a checkbox on the editor would be a good choice. As would be manual adjustment of line spacing (or space between lines as I often have to insert lines of 5pt when I'm typing a large title to ensure they stay close together.
  24. Are the words too big to fit on the screen? Is that what you mean? Have you adjusted the font size of the text (in the editable text box) for all or part of your text? You need to select the text first then apply the desired font size (or start the text box with the desired font size then add text). If not this then I don't understand the issue, sorry

    H.264 vs MPEG4?

Well, I'd be fine with MPEG4 if only to get my life back inasmuch that the video is rendered much more quickly. However, I don't want to be left in the unfortunate position of YouTube suddenly demanding all videos are encoded using H.264 and all others will be removed (in, say, 5 years' time). However unlikely it seems I just want to protect my YouTube investment - but would happily use MPEG4 as the quality is fine when encoded at a 8192 bitrate (although the final bit rate seems to be less - see my results above!?!) and, as said before, it renders in about 2 x realtime. Anyone else have any ideas on MPEG4 as a long-term encoding options (instead of MPEG4-part 10 aka H.264)?
