a utility that would allow me to scan five hours approx video in, say, 15 minutes please?

I think that might be too fast, meaning that you could miss "events".

The free VLC media player allows you to play "faster", depending how many times you click the "faster" button.  I don't have much success with this on my long screen captures, but you could try it.

'Technical Support' is only given AFTER you buy the software! Well, 'Pig in a Poke'! I am struggling to find software that will record my camera so I am hardly likely to buy each one in turn to get support?

I don't think that's true.  If you fill in the support form you'll see a drop-down to select your purchase status:

"Have you purchased" = "No - Not Yet but Willing To"

You may not go to the front of the queue but I'm pretty confident you'll get a response.

BTW, I do know someone who successfully records a cam in her garden with Debut.

  3. I don't have anything to do with recording stuff I'm doing on the desktop, only wildlife webcams.

Can I just copy the mp4 to a flash drive and then let them put it on their computer to play it?

There's your easiest solution, IMHO - there would be no objection from Debut, and presumably the other PC owner would have the editing software required.

I tried it saving to an avi and a mov...

I don't understand "saving to".  I use "Record as", and have just recorded the same wildlife webcam, which is displaying on my desktop, in both avi and mov and the files play absolutely fine.

I am no expert but I do a lot of screen-capturing and have found that mp4 is the best "bang for buck" - avi recordings tend to be less easy to edit and I don't see much, if any, quality difference - and do mov files require QuickTime?  Can't remember, but I can do without that cluttering me up ;) -

    Hi,

The Debut "Professional" registration gives you a full features license to use a single installation of Debut Pro including watermarking and more video formats support.
The "Home" registration does not includes the watermarking feature, this is the main difference...

In regards the "Free" and Trial versions, these version are limited to certain functions, and they will expired after a period of time, these are meant for basic use and testing purposes.

Therefore, as deduced by many of us, there is no free version for personal use - just a very short-lived trial version.

  6. I get in a muddle with audio.  This is my current setup where I'm recording speakers but not microphone, it never records "room" sounds, even tho microphone is ticked - I seemed to have to tick it in order to fetch up the stereo mix option in the Debut dropdown.

You need Stereo Mix set as your default recording device in your PC's audio settings.

Sorry if that doesn't help, maybe someone more techie will chip in :)

  7. I can't help because I never record from DVR, but Debut Support will respond to your problem, even if you haven't paid for support - it just takes a little longer but only a couple of days, in my experience.

The link to Debut Support is in the intro to this forum.

  8. So Clemenzina, is the free verson still working ?

SORRY! I had to give up on it because it's not fully featured. I can't even be helpful and tell you exactly why it wasn't any good, as all my time and hardware are committed to pushing out recordings, so I just went back to a version I'd paid for.

  9. I've just slightly amended my Debut settings to Minimise to Tray, and have unpinned the icon from the taskbar. Using hotkeys to stop/restart, the Debut GUI still pops up. I've never found Pause in Debut - maybe because I haven't looked hard enough ;) but I can't stop it recording for a good look now.

  10. A free version of Debut video capture software is available for non-commercial use only. If you will be using Debut at home you can download the free version here.

Could you give a link to the NCH/Debut webpage where the free version is available, please? I have never found it and have, over the years, paid for 6 licences even tho I am a home user.

Why so many licences? Well, if you don't discover a bug within the money-back guarantee period you are stuck with a faulty version and have to buy a new licence for a fixed version. So it's especially galling to be told that Debut should be free for home users.

  11. It's a shame that NCH give such a bad impression, as Debut, in particular, is super software when it's working properly.

Occasionally I have had the same experience as you with an installation not allowing the 14-day trial period, which is what it should do - it should be a fully-featured 14-day trial. NCH are not up-front about it and you see "free" versions bandied about but there's no such thing, as far as I know. Lord knows why the trial period is sometimes so severely curtailed - unless you've had previous unregistered versions installed on the same machine? I flounder, trying to make sense of it.

Watermarking is one of Debut's optional features, it's not automatic, you have to make an effort to use it! ;)

PS - Why it's termed "Professional" beats me, as it is the only version of Debut available. I would love to be contradicted with an alternative version besides the oft-released "betas", which cannot be tested and feedback given by licensed users of Debut Professional because of NCH's restrictions on the re-registration of paid licences.

  12. I cannot help directly because I don't use Debut for the same tasks as you do.

However, I think you need to contact Debut Support about this - either they can advise you on an existing setting to fix it, or it could be a bug, which they will endeavour to fix and will release a new version which will be made available to you - especially if you are within the money-back guarantee period, but I'm sure they will try to be helpful anyway.

  13. De-select "Show selection rectangle while recording". When you stop recording and want to record a different area, click the dotted rectangle ("Select a desktop rectangle..." pops up when you hover your mouse over it) and the previously selected area will show up again on the screen and you can stretch/shrink/move it for your new requirement.

I made the mistake of leaving the rectangle showing when I was also recording another area of the screen with different software, and my precious "other recording" was very dim.

  14. In my experience there is no such thing as a 'free' or a 'home' version. Debut Professional has a fully-functional 14-day trial period and after that it will not work at all until you buy the licence. That is my experience, after using Debut for quite a number of years.

If anyone knows any different I'd be glad to be educated.

I would strongly advise you to take full advantage of the trial period, testing as many features as you can, as there can be bugs needing to be ironed out and Debut Support is responsive to prospective licence purchasers. If you buy a licence and find a bug too late for the licence to be valid for a later, ironed out version, you can be stuck with the faulty version. It happened to me with the first licence I bought (1.61), and several versions I've tried have been buggy.

Having said that, Debut is one of the better screen-capture programs, which is what I use it for, and it's worth persevering to get any problems fixed.

  15. "Do you already own Debut? If so, you can try unticking the "Limit recording..." box and see what happens."

    How?

I've had SIX Debut licences in my time :o

The suggestion I made was based on v1.74:

    eYwZWNk.png

However, I have now checked v2.26 and that tick box has been 'withdrawn'.

I wonder if it might be possible for you to install an older version to test and see if unchecking the box will allow Debut to accomplish what you need? I have only just discovered OldVersion.com, where they host old versions of lots of software - this is the download page for Debut, it only goes up to 1.70 and they're nearly all beta versions - but they're probably identical to the release versions.

    http://www.oldversio...-video-capture/

Whatever you do, don't download 1.61 - the screenshot slides across the screen, so that if you take a repeat of the same area you get a different area. Many Debut releases are buggy, nice little earners ;) I think it was 2.12 on which I spent ages to-ing and fro-ing with Support sorting out the faulty Text Caption.

I can't imagine what you are going to do with 24-hour recordings of a Chat box, but that's not your problem :P

  16. I presume you mean "increase the maximum of hours for recording".

Do you already own Debut? If so, you can try unticking the "Limit recording..." box and see what happens.

On your additional query - in my experience, recordings that are not stopped 'properly', but interrupted by system restarts or program crashes, are irretrievable, kaput. I don't know of a screen-capture program that could cope with that but there may be one

As well as Debut I use a stream downloader, and that one does finish off "recordings" in the event of a system crash, but not if the program itself becomes "not responding", which has occasionally happened since I installed it on Windows10, it was intended for Windows7. I don't know how this downloader would fare with chats.

You can download streams with Debut by selecting Network rather than Screen - that might be worth investigating via Debut Support, or maybe someone here has experience with it.

    0ktRrou.jpg

As for running out of hard disk space, that's not happened to me but I imagine that Debut would stop itself and that the recording would be viable.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.
