  1. Assuming you are on a windows platform (as am I  - I can't verify with mac, but I assume it is the same) - I hope my response won't be taken as gruff or rude, but how familiar are you with windows?

You can only perform a function in an active window. Switching between working in Word and WavePad (or any other program you have open on your desktop) is just a normal activity which requires clicking on that window (or it's icon in the task bar), and certainly not specific to WavePad.

I cannot think of anything that would respond except when it is the foremost and active window.

  2. You can only set one customized pause gap for a burn session. The same gap will be applied between each track (which can be 'gapless' by choosing "0".)

If you wished to get more creative, you could edit the tracks in WavePad and add different amounts of silence at the end of different tracks, then when burning choose "0" as the Track Pause.

edit to add: regarding getting 2 lps on one cd - the maximum length of an lp side is @ 22 minutes. If the total of the four sides you wish to burn onto a cd isn't longer than @ 79:98 minutes, you should be fine. I have often edited tracks in WavePad to trim a project to fit on cd.

Have you already digitized the lps to your computer? Golden Records is the NCH program I use to do this.

  3. To transfer from cassette to computer, the NCH program best designed for this would be Golden Records, although SoundTap would work also.

as I just posted in your other thread, try using shortcut key 'F1' to access the online help menu.

  4. In the upper right corner there is a blue question mark (?) which is the link to the online help menu.

If you can't find what you are looking for there, feel free to post in this forum. You may well get help from one of the NCH staff or another user.

  5. I'm sorry that you are having troubles and hope I didn't cause too much confusion.

It seems like an easy project to me; a perfect use of WavePad and would take me only a couple of minutes to accomplish, but then I've been using WavePad for many years......

    Best of Luck!

  6. Perhaps I'm making this more difficult than need be. This is just how I would approach it using WavePad. I do work like this all the time, albeit in the reverse (splitting up long files into tracks.)

If they are labelled in a chronological order, each file should have it's own tab along the bottom of your workspace in order from left to right.

Start with file 'A'. This will become your final file. Add your silence, and re-name it 'Master file or something.'Re-naming it will create a new file, and preserve the original version of the file.

Now click on the B file tab which will make that the open window, add silence, select all, copy. Click on file A tab, position cursor at end of the file, paste.

Now I would click on file B again and close it. The program will ask if you want to save the changes (you added silence) choose either save or don't save.

Closing the files after you have pasted them into the new project file will help keep track of where you are.

some tips: when positioning the cursor, sometimes you can inadvertently 'select' an area, as opposed to just a static cursor. Zoom in to see if anything is highlighted.

remember that the clipboard with hold the last file/selection, until you 'copy' something else.

  7. I'm assuming when you say' the amplified files' you are referring to files that you have amplified in WavePad?

Could you give us just a bit more info - when you look at the original files' waveform, does it have any spots where it comes close to peaking?

If you amplify a file to any degree that sends parts of it past 0 dB (peak) then you will get distortion.

Converting it to flac is secondary; you'll need to get it mastered properly first (do whatever necessary to trim peaks so you can amplify it enough), and if the original file is in good shape,

it is likely that you can do that with WavePad.

  8. " Can I put the 2" (2000 ms) of silence at the end of the first seven excerpts first before trying to combine them into one "track"? "

That is how I would do it.

I also use audacity a lot, but for what you are doing I would prefer to use WavePad myself.

  9. Your task is easily done in WavePad. Open a new file, add the first excerpt (either by using the "open file" button, or drag and drop the file onto the workspace.

Then I would add the silence at the end. Next bring the second excerpt into the project. With that file active, right click in that window, chose 'select all' and then 'Copy' from either the Home or Edit tab.

Then go back to the first window, make sure the cursor is positioned at the end of the file (I use the >I transport button on the bottom of the workspace) ,and 'paste' the second file.

Add your silence at the end of that, and continue accordingly. Hope I explained that ok!

Alternately, (the way I would probably do it) if the eight files are in the same folder and named chronologically, I would drag all the files into the project at once. Then add silence to the end of each, and proceed to copy and paste as described above.

  10. When saving, use the 'save as' function under the File tab. Then you can save to a destination/folder of your choice, and rename it if you wish.

Sorry I can't help you find your file, but I'd suggest opening another, try clicking on the 'save as' and see what appears as the default destination there, maybe that can show you where it went.

  11. My experience is as Chris stated; clicking on the scroll bar does not stop playback for me (version 5.10 on my windows 7 machine, and ver 6.33 on my windows 10 machine.)

Zoom in if you need to (I can't see a scroll bar until I do,) and you can just click on the waveform to a spot before the part you are seeking and playback will continue. You can also click on the time display above the scroll bar.

I find it useful to use the space bar as a pause and start shortcut.

  12. I don't wish to get involved discussing much of this, but I will say - trying to record a stream from spotify is more than likely a questionable legal thing.

As regards to pops and clicks, a commom complaint with this software - as noted many times before - when trying to record streams over the internet using SoundTap, my experience has shown that it is best to :

    - exit all programs and internet sources

    - close all operations

    - open SoundTap

    - then open the source you wish to record

    - and most importantly: let the recording run its; course - ie: don't use the computer for anything else, nor start any other operations.

this may or may not be the best current advice, but it's what I can offer.....

edit to add: I am using a pc, no experience with mac (well, at least since I have been on the internet :))

  13. CD-R (recordable) discs are made for only burning/writing one time. You need to be using CD-RW (re-writable) discs if you wish to add/delete files to it.

If you want to burn a new disc, with new files AND files already on another CD-R, you would need to rip the files off the CD-R with ExpressRip to obtain the files for that.

  14. Under the File menu, you can choose "Save All Files." but you still have to go through a dialogue box process for each file, as far as I know. Your question may bring out a better answer, but I'll share how I do it.

You could just keep clicking 'enter' after "Save All Files' and they will be at least saved in order as untitled1, etc....

My method when working with multiple files (that I've just created from splitting an original larger file) and to keep them labelled in sequence is as follows. A bit tedious, and maybe not the streamlined fix you are looking for...

Since the first file was originally your master, when you save it after splitting be sure to alter the title, so as to keep the original copy intact.

Save the first file with the 'Save File As...' option. Here you choose the folder where you want to place the files (tracks) from the project.

And a name; using my type of work as an example - Band name_date_set1_ track01.

Now click (have as open window in the project) on the second file, and choose 'Save All Files...' - the dialogue box(es) that comes up will already show the folder and contents that you just created with track1.

Wavepad assigns a temporary name to each file when you do a split (untitled 1, etc., or when saving uses the original file name with a '_1' etc. after it)

I then click on the previously added file, which will enter that title as the File Name in the 'Save As' box. I click to the end of that name, backspace and enter 2 (and so on.)

I keep all the other attributes of my title and all I have to type is to change the last digits. Of course this works for me in my process, but if you need more info in your title than it will take more typing.

Sorry for the length, and/or if none of that helps.

  15. I should probably let someone else answer first, because I'm not 100% sure you can't do what you are referring to with WavePad, but I believe the NCH program SoundTap is better suited to this task.

  16. I believe that the file is the MixPad project file - you will need to export the audio. (apologies if you are already past this step!)

Under the File menu : Export Project as Audio File. Then a dialog box comes up where you can set the file format and location. Mixpad will then create an audio file.

A couple of tips - When working with lossless (.wav on a pc) files, I always export in the same format, and use a conversion program (like Switch) to create mp3s.

    - Pay attention to your destination folder - click the Browse button in the export box to choose/create a destination. (I recommend saving your project to the same.)

  17. Thanks Ben, that makes sense.

I'm still getting familiar with my laptop and have been wondering if there was some setting or something I could do on my end to resolve this.

I have been using an external monitor - the problem occurs on that also.

(Now I'm thinking I should try installing v6.33 of WavePad on my windows7 desktop (which currently runs v5.10 like a champ) just to see... )

  18. 5/21/17 edit to add: I have resolved my issue stated below - it had nothing to do with WavePad - it was an embarrassingly simple fix in the Windows 10 control panel!

I brought this up in a different thread, and another user has reported the same issue.

On my new win10 laptop (Alienware 17 R3) with the current edition v6.33, the bar at the bottom of the screen (which contains the transport features, the timing displays, and zoom) is extremely small and almost impossible to read. I can only work now due to my familiarity with the program and knowing where the button I need is located, but I can't read the times on the 'start, end, selection length, file length'...

I've been thinking that it had something to do with upgrading to windows 10, or something to do with the display of my new computer.

But maybe, or hopefully, it is a WavePad compatability issue that will be addressed. I haven't pursued this any further yet, as I stated I've learned to work with the miniature lower toolbar.

  19. ^ Glad to hear (wait that doesn't sound right) it's not just me/my system. I've been thinking that it had something to do with upgrading to windows 10, or something to do with the display of my new computer.

I will start a new topic outside of this thread.
